[MythicalBeastCafeteria] Chapter 27.1 — Rich Lady, I’m Hungry

After delivering the last big, crispy chicken leg rice meal to Chancellor Wen, Qing Niao rode his mountain bike at lightning speed to the Eighth Cafeteria. Many students saw a bluish-green light flash down the road and were immediately confused—what had gone by?

Upon arriving at his destination, Qing Niao happily stopped the mountain bike and went inside the Eighth Cafeteria.

The boss was absolutely right. Delivering food was just as meaningful as delivering mail.

When the hungry students received the food he delivered, their eyes filled with a complex mix of surprise and delight. His deliveries filled their empty stomachs and soothed their hearts; it was incredibly satisfying.

When he realized he had finished delivering all the orders, a sudden sense of emptiness rose in his heart. It was such a pity that he hadn’t been able to satisfy all the hungry students in the school.

Qing Niao then walked over to Luo Huai’an, his eyes filled with hope, “Boss, are there any more food deliveries to make today?”

Big Fish, who was sweeping the floor nearby, was speechless.

Who would look for more work? Wasn’t that just asking to be exploited? This new colleague was more capable than him, but he seemed to have some serious mental problems!

Big Fish wondered, was he being so enthusiastic towards work because he wanted to curry favor with the boss?

Luo Huai’an looked at the hardworking Qing Niao with great affection, “We’re out of deliveries for today, but I’ll buy more big chicken legs tomorrow so we’ll have more in stock.”

Qing Niao nodded, “Okay, I understand.”

After Qing Niao finished speaking, he spoke somewhat embarrassedly and mentioned that Chancellor Wen had hung a calligraphy scroll about him in his office.

He said eagerly, “Boss, it turns out the Chancellor really likes me. I want to deliver food to him again in the future.”

Luo Huai’an: “…”

Luo Huai’an knew the Chancellor’s personality quite well and felt that there was probably some misunderstanding. However, after seeing Qing Niao’s innocent and enthusiastic eyes, she felt a little reluctant to shatter his illusions.

She cleared her throat, awkwardly changing the subject, “That’s good. By the way, how did the food deliveries go today?”

Qing Niao took out his phone and said, “It’s pretty good, but the location isn’t very accurate, otherwise I could have delivered it even faster.”

Inaccurate location?

Luo Huai’an took his phone and found that it was a model that had been on the market for four years. Although it was a smartphone, it could already be considered very old.

Qing Niao touched his blue-green hair, his tone filled with pride and satisfaction, “This is the phone I bought a year ago with two months’ salary, it cost me a thousand yuan. Although it’s a second-hand phone, it works very well, but the location tracking is inaccurate and it’s prone to lagging.”

Luo Huai’an: “…”

If this was considered a good phone, then her top-of-the-line smartphone must be a rare gem, one in a million.

Luo Huai’an checked his phone and found that the screen was cracked; opening the food delivery app was so laggy it was like a PowerPoint presentation1. She couldn’t imagine how he had managed to deliver everything using such a slow phone in such a short time.

To help Qing Niao work faster, Luo Huai’an took out a spare phone that she didn’t use often from her bag and handed it over to Qing Niao. “This phone isn’t as good as the one I have now, but it has all the necessary functions and should be enough for your needs.”

Qing Niao took the phone and was surprised to find it very lightweight, and because she hadn’t used it often, it still looked brand new. He quickly asked, “How much is it? I can pay on credit with my salary.”

He had used all the money he earned before to repay the kindness of his benefactors and to feed his clan, and his pockets right now were cleaner than his face; he didn’t have a single penny and was unable to pay for the phone.

Luo Huai’an waved her hand. “You are hardworking and proactive, this is a reward for you. It would be best for me if you continued to maintain this attitude.”

Qing Niao was deeply moved. He used to work off the books on construction sites and his wages were often deducted, but Luo Huai’an not only fed him delicious food rich in spiritual energy, but also provided him with a place to stay, and even gave him a cell phone and a mountain bike.

What an incredibly kind boss!

Qing Niao had no choice but to accept, deciding to repay her with even more diligent work, and a greater motivation welled up within him. “Thank you, boss, I will work even harder!”

Big Fish: “…”

This new colleague was so naive; he was bribed with just a phone.

The money came from the customers; the boss gave him benefits simply to motivate him to work harder and do his best.

Although Big Fish was somewhat dismissive of the phone’s value, he was actually quite envious of being given a new one.

After all, their entire family only had one old-fashioned flip phone that they found at the bottom of the sea. It couldn’t even connect to the internet, let alone use GPS.

Big Fish, carrying a broom, walked up to Luo Huai’an with anticipation in his eyes, hoping she would understand his meaning. He lowered his voice and said, “I… want a phone too.”

However, Luo Huai’an did not agree with him at all, and only glared at him. “If you don’t work hard, where will you get a cell phone?”

Upon hearing this, Big Fish was furious, “How am I not working hard? I sweep the floor and clean every day.”

“But this is your labor reform, something you have to do anyway. If you’re not satisfied, go talk to Captain Zhang,” Luo Huai’an said. “Besides, you cheated and made me sell only a hundred servings of shaved ice. I remember that clearly, and I haven’t settled the score with you yet!”

Upon hearing this, Big Fish trembled and panicked. Clutching his broom, he stammered, “I noticed that the ground over there isn’t clean yet. I’ll go back to work now.”

Luo Huai’an ignored him, gave Qing Niao—this ideal employee—another round of encouragement, and then turned and left.

… …

But after Luo Huai’an left, Big Fish, carrying a broom, sneaked back.

As Big Fish watched Qing Niao happily fiddling with the new phone, his head down, a brilliant idea popped into his head.

He knew that the Qing Niao was level higher than him and was actually a powerful supernatural beast.

Although he couldn’t beat Luo Huai’an, the two of them combined might be a different story.

Big Fish spoke in a seductive voice, “Qing Niao, is this phone fun?”

“It’s fun.” Qing Niao nodded like a chick pecking at rice, full of hope for the future. “With such an advanced phone, I can deliver food even faster.”

“Let me tell you, if we beat the boss, we’ll have countless great cell phones to play with, and the whole cafeteria will be ours.” Big Fish chuckled, lost in his fantasy world. “If we join forces to beat the boss, we’ll turn the tables and become the new masters. We’ll enslave the boss just like she did to us, lock her in the kitchen, and make her cook an endless supply of food for us.”
