[MythicalBeastCafeteria] Chapter 22.2 — The New Employee Arrives

At this time, the middle-aged woman at the head of the crowd spoke up, “I think this is a letter sent by a ghost. My mother also lives in the old neighborhood behind the post office. The four of us siblings are all working in the capital. Every year, my mother sends us sweet potatoes, a local specialty of Jiangcheng. The day before yesterday, all four of us siblings actually received the sweet potatoes she sent us.”

“Isn’t this great? There are even sweet potatoes to eat,” Big Fish swallowed.

Far from being happy, the middle-aged woman’s tone was filled with fear, “But our mother died half a year ago!”

Big Fish: “… damn it.”

The other men and women chattered one after another, and they all said basically the same thing.

Relatives and friends who has since passed away had somehow sent them things through this post office.

Zhang Jing waited until everyone has finished speaking, then said to Luo Huai’an, “This is the situation.”

Seeing that Luo Huai’an understood, Zhang Jing turned around and reassured the people in the post office. “Okay, thank you, everyone. We now know the situation, please wait patiently for the results. Please believe in science, believe in us.”

Luo Huai’an: “?”

Zhang Jing actually said that we should believe in science? Then what did Big Fish standing next to them mean?

After hearing Zhang Jing’s words, the victims breathed a sigh of relief and began to comfort themselves and those around them.

“Maybe Old Zhang remembered it wrong and sent out packages to wrong addresses. How could there be ghosts in this world?”

“I think so too. Everyone should believe in science. My favorite show is the now-discontinued ‘Into Science’.

After Zhang Jing calmed the crowd, he returned to Luo Huai’an. He noticed that Luo Huai’an was looking at him strangely, so he smiled awkwardly and said in a low voice, “This is necessary to appease the people. We must not cause social panic.”

Luo Huai’an: “…”

Zhang Jing added, “They say it’s a ghost, but our instruments detected supernatural aura here. Do you have any ideas now?”

Luo Huai’an was very curious about what the victims said.

This supernatural creature did not harm people but instead acted as messenger, sometimes sending flowers, sometimes sending local specialties.

Of course, the impact was very bad. Instead of feeling happy, the people who received the parcels became distressed and panicked.

Luo Huai’an shook her head. “I don’t have any ideas now.”

However, the supernatural aura was strong; she could feel it.

Zhang Jing proposed his own idea, “Now that we know that all the people involved in this mysterious deliveries lived in the residential area behind the post office hall, why don’t we go there and take a look?”

“OK.”

They left the post office hall and headed for the residential complex behind it. Just as they were about to reach the complex, Luo Huai’an seemed to be aware of something and looked towards the small park on the left.

The area was shaded by green trees and has many public facilities. In the distance, there was a pavilion where two elderly people were playing chess.

One of the old men, probably having lost the game, picked up his teacup, took a sip, and said angrily, “I give up. You’re such a lousy chess player, always regretting your moves. I don’t want to play with you anymore.”

“If you can’t win, just say so!” His companion refused to give in.

The old man took his hands off the chessboard, took a handful of corn kernels from the bowl on the stone table, and called out to the green trees behind him, “I’m done chatting with you. Little bird, come out and eat.”

After a while, a blue bird flew down from the tree, landed on his hand, and picked up a kernel of corn. It bit the kernel in its mouth and made a cheerful sound, which made the old man laugh.

“What a nice little bird!”

At this moment, a shadow suddenly fell in front of the old man.

The old man looked up in confusion and found a very beautiful young miss standing in front of him, staring at the bird in his hand.

He asked doubtfully, “Little girl, is there something wrong?”

“Where did this bird come from?”

When she asked about the bird, the old man smiled and said, “This is the most intelligent bird in the park. Everyone likes to feed it. Every time it finishes eating, it rubs against our fingers to thank us. If you don’t believe me, just look.”

The old man looked down at his hand, only to find that the blue bird had disappeared at some point.

The old man was surprised and looked around, only to find that the bird had actually run into Luo Huai’an’s hand. The blue bird was sitting on her hand, but it didn’t look so willing. Instead, it seemed as if it was being coerced; its beautiful tail feathers drooped down and it made wilted sounds.

Seeing this, the old man was very anxious, “Don’t hurt it!”

“Don’t worry, I won’t,” Luo Huai’an said.

The old man still didn’t believe it. The bird was beautiful, its feathers seemed to glow. He’d heard bird thieves frequented the area, intent on stealing this bird. The park’s frequenters were on high alert, not taking it lightly.

Zhang Jing didn’t know why Luo Huai’an suddenly walked into the park and caught a bird. After hearing what the old man said, he immediately took out his ID to prove his identity, “Hello, old man, we are on official business.”

When the old man saw that it was someone from the government, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief, “That’s okay then.”

After Zhang Jing comforted the old man, he and Luo Huai’an left the park and walked to a secluded place.

Zhang Jing’s colleagues were very curious. “Isn’t this just a bluebird? It’s a common bluebird. What’s so special about it?”

“It seems to be more beautiful than others I’ve seen.”

A colleague took out his own testing equipment and approached the blue bird. The instrument suddenly vibrated with a buzzing sound, and the pointer moved as if it was having a seizure. Then the instrument made a loud beep and stopped completely.

The colleague was shocked and almost cried. “This is a device that can detect B-level supernatural creatures. How can it be destroyed like this? The boss will scold me again.”

Seeing that it had been exposed, the blue bird gave up struggling. A flash of light appeared, and a young man with outstanding appearance appeared before them.

He was about twenty years old, with extremely bright and trendy blue hair.

However, he was wearing a washed-out T-shirt and shorts, and it was obvious that he was living in poverty.
