Luo Qi looked at Shu Rui’s back, thoughtful.
The person Shu Rui held the most grudge against in this world was probably Jiang Shenghe. This was because Jiang Shenghe forced him into desperation until he had no choice but to sell Ruipu’s shares, giving Yuanwei Group controlling interest over his own hard-built company.
And since she was Jiang Shenghe’s most trusted subordinate, she naturally became the number one thorn on Shu Rui’s side.
Once she heads over to Ruipu, no matter what decision she made, Shu Rui would definitely not cooperate. But in fact, despite his mistrust, she had the same goal as him: she also wanted Ruipu to reach better heights.
But Shu Rui would never believe this and has already determined that she was there to disband the original management team and install Yuanwei people in key positions.
She actually planned to do the opposite of what he was expecting.
“What are you thinking about?”
Jiang Shenghe interrupted her thoughts, and Luo Qi answered truthfully, “Thinking of how to deal with Shu Rui.”
“That’s good.” Jiang Shenghe didn’t give any instructions and let her figure it out on her own.
As soon as the long holiday was over, Luo Qi would go to Ruipu, and she wouldn’t see Jiang Shenghe again during working hours.

Living under the same roof as Jiang Shenghe was much smoother than Luo Qi had expected. Looking back carefully, it seemed that they didn’t do much in three days they were together, but time somehow passed by in such a hurry.
No real strawberries were planted. She had been hinting to him in that direction, directly or indirectly, but he hasn’t received the signal yet.
She asked him, what would be appropriate to plant? The best thing to eat?
He said: Pumpkin?
She didn’t know what he was thinking to come up with such an answer.
Looking back on this later—she sometimes liked to eat pumpkin glutinous rice cakes.
He once asked her what she had for breakfast, and she said pumpkin glutinous rice cakes. It appeared he remembered it.
Yesterday at noon, the pumpkin seeds they purchased online arrived at home. It was still cold and the temperature was not yet suitable for planting. When she went out to the yard this morning, the helpers at home had already set up the greenhouse, and the pumpkin seeds were all duly planted.
Alas, it was probably hopeless to grow strawberries.
… …
On the first day she took over as General Manager of Ruipu, there was a senior management meeting at 9:30 am.
Shu Rui first pulled her into the work group chat and expressed a warm welcome.
On the surface, she was Shu Rui’s boss and she represented the interests of the controlling shareholder: Yuanwei Group. However, the fact was that the R&D division and marketing were all in the hands of Shu Rui, and she had no say in those matters.
Jiang Shenghe had asked her to sort out the personal resumes of Ruipu’s management before. She was familiar with all of them and was able to match the faces with the names.
At the meeting, Shu Rui briefly talked about the difficulties Ruipu was currently facing.
Yuanwei Group originally acquired Ruipu with the intention of letting it fend for itself without giving any support.
Luo Qi flipped through the meeting materials. She already knew what she needed to know, “Is there anything else?”
Shu Rui replied, “We are awaiting Ms. Luo’s arrangements.”
He spoke impeccably; Luo Qi learned this about him last time, back when she accompanied Jiang Shenghe to the Ruipu R&D center.
Luo Qi closed the reports and said, “I don’t have any new arrangements to make. Whoever you reported to before will remain the same now and in the future. You don’t need to report to me.”
She looked at Shu Rui beside her, “Then I’ll trouble Mr. Lu to continue to work hard. If you encounter a problem that cannot be solved, we will have a meeting to discuss it.
“Since everyone is fine, let the meeting adjourn.”
Shu Rui couldn’t figure out what she meant; what was she trying to do?
“Ms. Luo, we’ll treat you to a meal tonight so we can get acquainted with each other.”
“Thank you for your kindness. It’s my first day at work. I still have holiday hangover. Everyone is very tired, I’m sure. And no one wants to deal with the boss or eat with the boss after they get off work. I don’t want to force people to do what they don’t really want to do, so just do what you should do in the evening. We will have dinner together another time. There would be plenty of opportunities.”
She got up and was the first to leave the conference room.
Her new staff, Secretary Chi Xin, followed closely behind, feeling uneasy. She was an old employee of the company, and she could foresee how difficult this job would be in the future, dealing with a new boss who was not in the same camp as the rest of the management team.
When Luo Qi left, more than a dozen people in the conference room looked at each other. They had prepared many tricks and counter-manuevers, but none of them were used. Luo Qi didn’t make any move at all.
… …
“Ms. Luo,” Chi Xin knocked on the door. “Do you have any instructions?”
Luo Qi looked at Chi Xin; it was as if she saw herself in the past. She just wanted to do a good job and get a stable salary, and did not want to participate in the battle among the company’s top executives.
She smiled, “No, you are busy. Just go about your daily work.”
“Okay. Ms. Luo, please call me anytime if you need anything.”
Chi Xin breathed a sigh of relief and carefully closed the door.
… …
At noon, the company’s front desk received two bouquets of flowers.
The recipient was Luo Qi, and the signature only stated: 9.25
They were only separated for one whole morning, and yet somehow, it felt like they hadn’t seen each other for a long time. She was used to seeing him first thing at the beginning of the work day, used to knocking on his door, and used to calling out ‘Chief Jiang’.
She was not used to being without all that now.
She didn’t know what he was doing at the moment, whether he was taking a lunch break or having a video conference.
Luo Qi sent him a message: [I received the flowers. Why buy two bouquets? One is enough.]
Jiang Shenghe’s reply came back quickly: [Good things come in pairs.]
Then he asked, his concern evident: [How do you feel about your first day at work?]
Luo Qi: [Fortunately, I’m getting used to it. I miss the President’s Office.]
Jiang Shenghe: [But I’m not from the President’s Office.]
Luo Qi replied seriously: [In a sense, you’re also part of it.]
She missed the President’s Office and missed him at the same time.
Seventh Year of My Secret Love for You translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com
T/N: The wording is weird but Luo Qi is referring to the secretaries and assistants who all serve under the President. Jiang Shenghe is begging for crumbs and said ‘but I’m not part of that’ hoping she’d say he missed him too. Poor sweet domineering CEO.
About the titles, Luo Qi and Shu Rui are both addressed as ‘surname zong‘. It’s the same address that I’ve been translating as ‘Chief’ Jiang. It’s a respectful address for someone very high up in a big company—Luo Qi is the new General Manager and Shu Rui was the former CEO and still second-biggest shareholder. To keep things simple, I’ll be using ‘Ms. Luo’ and ‘Mr. Shu’.
Pumpkin glutinous rice cakes would generally have some sweet filling like red bean or peanut paste.
