While Gou An was changing clothes, she received a call from a certain shy groundhog. However, this time the shy groundhog turned into a screaming groundhog, roaring at the top of her lungs the moment the call connected.
“He threatened me!! Uncle Perky Butt is not a good person!! I caught him doing something shameful and now he forbids me from telling anyone!! Otherwise, he will tell my dad about the nickname I gave him and how he saw my confession to (automatic censoring)!!!”
Gou An, holding her underwear, felt her hairline recede three centimeters from all the yelling. Confused and bewildered, she asked, “What? Who threatened you? Do you mean… He Jinxing?”
There was a soft ‘ooh’ from the other end of the phone.
Why is a 28-year-old man threatening an 18-year-old girl? Is it because he’s bored and has nothing better to do?
Gou An paused for a moment, “What shameful thing did you witness him doing? Murder or arson?”
“He was in a private room with a bunch of women, drinking until his eyes were bloodshot.” Groundhog sniffed. “And that (automatic censoring) was in there too. Men really are all bastards.”
“…”
Gou An was too lazy to ask who the person that was automatically censored was. The fact that that person could sit in the same private room drinking with He Jinxing meant that they were at least someone who could share the same zodiac animal as Zhou Yutong1—12 years apart. This realization was too shocking…
But more shocking than the gossip itself: the man who had been telling her that he had just woken up in bed was actually sitting in a bar drinking with a bunch of women until his eyes were bloodshot.
“I think Uncle Perky Butt isn’t good enough for you anymore. So what if he has a perky butt? You’ve got good things too, even better than him! Ugh!”
Zhou Yutong grumbled on the phone. “As for my brother, he’s not much better either. He lacks the guts. Last night, he watched Uncle Perky Butt dance with you and his eyes were glued to you the entire time, but he didn’t dare invite you…
“Forget it, let’s not pick and choose men from the trash can. Compared to him, the innocent high school boys are definitely more appealing. Why don’t you consider He Yuan? I always felt that he has potential—”
“He Jinxing’s reputation with you has plummeted.”
Zhou Yutong pouted, sounding aggrieved, and said in a dry voice, “You didn’t see how many strange people were in that private room. Just from what I saw, there were couples, men and men, women and women…”
“Stop. Didn’t He Jinxing tell you not to tell anyone?”
“Oh,” Zhou Yutong said pitifully, her voice trembling with tears, whether she was trying to calm down or because she felt threatened, “But you’re not just anyone.”
Gou An was choked speechless.
The groundhog on the other end of the phone was whining and begging her to hurry to the bar; it wasn’t even dinner time yet and this newly adult was already insisting on drinking herself into oblivion—
“This world, full of liars and scumbags. Only by observing it after getting drunk can it appear less evil.”
“Have you been drinking?”
“Not yet, wu wu wu wu2. Haven’t I been waiting for you to come get drunk me?”
“What do you mean, ‘get drunk with you’? What reason do I have to drink myself into oblivion?”
“I don’t know… Is it okay for Uncle Perky Butt to have an affair? A woman with a really nice voice said she wanted to request a song for him, and she even called him ‘Mr. He’! ‘Mr. He’! So intimate!3“
She really knew how to stir up trouble; even He Jinxing would applaud her skills.
After patiently listening to the groundhog’s ramblings, Gou An hung up the phone, put on a short leather jacket over her black sundress, and before leaving, she noticed the necklace around her neck; she had forgotten to take it off yesterday because she was too tired…
Actually, there was no need to remove it; this kind of necklace was perfectly fine as an everyday accessory.
“He was in a private room with a bunch of women, drinking until his eyes were bloodshot.”
“…”
What a disrespectful elder!
Doing something so youthful at your old age was quite something!
Gou An mentally spat out a ‘Pah!’, not spending time to delve into where this disdain came from. She raised her hands, took off the necklace, and put it back into the jewelry box on the table.

Time seemed to have been disrupted on the cruise ship; no one followed a regular schedule like mealtimes or work hours anymore.
It was only a little past six in the afternoon, but the ship’s all-day bar was already packed with people, with no seats available and even a queue waiting to be called at the door… It had become the most popular place on the entire ship, apart from the deck’s outdoor swimming pool.
Gou An walked in with her bodyguard, head held high, naturally attracting attention. After all, she had done too many earth-shattering things yesterday, so it was not surprising that she became a celebrity in the industry overnight.
She walked into the bar with her back ramrod straight, her chin held up at an unnecessarily haughty angle, wearing rather plain black loafers.
The footsteps were heavy, and the soles of the lambskin shoes made a ‘clack-clack’ sound on the wooden floor.
Her fair and delicate face was expressionless, revealing that Miss Gou was not in a good mood at this moment.
She found her group of daughters from wealthy families in a corner booth, and surprisingly, He Yuan was there too. He didn’t seem uncomfortable sitting among a group of girls and was chatting with Tang Xinjiu about how difficult it was to buy jewelry from a certain brand…
Zhou Yutong, standing next to him, had already eaten her seventh piece of fried chicken. If she kept eating, she might become the first teenage girl in history to die from overeating fried chicken because of a scumbag boyfriend.
Gou An moved the plate of fried chicken away, and Zhou Yutong, with her greasy hands outstretched like a zombie, rushed into her arms. Gou An patted her back good-naturedly, “Alright, anyone who doesn’t know the situation would probably think you have a deep crush on He Jinxing.”
Zhou Yutong trembled at the mere mention of that name.
Gou An gave the bodyguard a look, and Ye Lang understood, personally delivering two items to the private room—
A button.
A bowl of hot hangover soup.
Five minutes later, Ye Lang came out and told Gou An expressionlessly that the other party had accepted the items. He reported that after thinking for about thirty seconds, the man asked him to convey four words to Gou An: ‘Thank you, An’an.‘
Gou An’s teeth ached from the sourness. She subconsciously glanced towards the private room; the door was tightly closed, separating them from the rest of the nobodies who could only queue outside for seats.
She picked up her phone and checked WeChat; it was completely silent. If someone wanted to express their sincere gratitude, sending a message directly via WeChat would have been much more heartfelt…
He Jinxing couldn’t possibly be unaware of this principle.
Gou An carefully reconsidered the situation and finally detected a hint of tension in Ye Lang’s report of thirty seconds of contemplation and the four words he conveyed…
Not exactly fatal.
But the provocative intent was strong.
Five minutes later, Zhou Yutong glanced at her phone and screamed—
“He really told on me!! My dad told me not to give people nicknames so easily! He even asked me if I bullied others! Help, can I bully He Jinxing?! If I have that kind of power, then from now on, don’t call me Groundhog, call me The Wolf of Wall Street!”
Gou An: “…”
……
As it approached eight o’clock in the evening, the bar gradually became lively, and people began to dance in the dance floor at the center. Zhou Yutong started to order drinks.
Gou An stopped Zhou Yutong from drinking the Long Island Iced Tea she was about to chug down her mouth. If she drank that, her night would be over before it even began. Zhou Yutong grumbled and reached out to snatch it from her, so Gou An had to ask He Yuan to hold her up.
In the midst of the scramble, she seized the opportunity to ask, “What did you see earlier?”
It would have been better if she hadn’t said anything, because as soon as she did, Zhou Yutong blinked and her eyes welled up with tears. She said in a tone as if she were facing a major crisis, “I saw a lot of people in that private room: Chen Shuyu, Zhang Ying, Jiewei… and Xiao Miao sitting on the Jiang family’s Third Son’s lap.”
Gou An responded with a blank look.
“Xiao Miao, the one who became an internet sensation at the end of last year because of a set of ballet photos, the epitome of pure and innocent beauty.”
Xiao Miao started out as an internet celebrity, but strictly speaking, she should be considered a fourth or fifth-tier star now. This year, she officially debuted and starred in a palace drama. She fell in love with the emperor at first sight, danced in the garden and was favored by him, but was eventually ordered by the empress to dance in the imperial garden all night and froze to death.
This character only appeared in a few episodes, but screenshots from various angles went viral online, generating countless trending topics…
“She is truly beautiful; everyone says she is Odile who fell to earth.”
“The person you like is the Third Son of the Jiang family?” Gou An was shocked. “Isn’t that inappropriate?”
Zhou Yutong said disdainfully, “My brain isn’t broken.”
Gou An said, “Then you—”
Zhou Yutong quickly grabbed the Long Island Iced Tea and took a sip. Gou An couldn’t even snatch it away. Just as she was sighing that this girl might have to crawl back to the cabin tonight, the half-finished Long Island Iced Tea was confiscated from behind.
It was done so quickly that Gou An didn’t even have time to react.
The person whose drink was stolen let out a dissatisfied groan, and turned around, ready to curse. But when she met a pair of familiar eyes, she instantly lost her temper.
Her lively expression vanished instantly. Zhou Yutong bit her lower lip, “Young Uncle.”
Chen Jinli casually placed the half-finished drink on the next table with a slightly loud ‘thud’, startling everyone at the next table. A group of spoiled rich kids looked up, ready to erupt in anger, only to realize who was standing there—

FOOTNOTES:
- I think Zhou Yutong was born in the Year of the Rat—which is why her chat name is Shy Groundhog (‘earth digging rat’). There are 12 animals in the cycle; after the 12th year, it’s the Year of the Rat again.
Gou An thought that since (automatically censored) guy hangs around with He Jinxing, then he should at least share the same zodiac animal as Zhou Yutong—meaning he’s at least 12 years older. ↩︎ - sobbing sounds 😅 ↩︎
- We mentioned this ‘先生’ ‘xiansheng’ before—it’s a polite title BUT it can also mean ‘husband’.
He Ran was visibly aggravated how easily Gou An could call out ‘He xiansheng’. Perhaps it’s because people would usually refer to the men in this story as ‘zong’ which is often translated to ‘President’ or ‘CEO’—the respectful way of calling a wealthy boss of a big company—rather than ‘xiansheng‘. The unknown woman was probably using it deliberately to imply a closer relationship than the more formally distant ‘President’.
As for xiansheng, it literally means ‘someone who was born before’ (and therefore has more wisdom than me). So it’s used for teachers, scholars, doctors, and yes, husbands. In modern times, it’s also a polite ‘Mister XX’ or ‘Gentleman YY’ or ‘Sir ZZ’. ↩︎
