At five o’clock sharp, Jian Hang got off work. Zheng Yanshu was so angry with her that his heart ached.
Liao Yongmei messaged her: “[We’ve found a suitable person for the planning supervisor position. There’s another position still open, would you like to join me in the interview?]”
Jian Hang: [You go with Zhou Yi.]
Liao Yongmei: [Okay.]
Jian Hang didn’t ask who the suitable person was; it seems that Lin Xiao’s interview is probably over. Liao Yongmei, an HR person with unique insight, would definitely ask tricky questions, and Lin Xiao may not have been able to handle them.
Back home, Jian Hang went straight upstairs to the master bedroom. She took out a small suitcase from the walk-in closet, packed a few pajamas and underwear, folded some work clothes, and put them all in.
She didn’t need to bring much; she has everything she needed in her small apartment.
Jian Hang took a few more sets of cosmetics from the dressing table and put them in the suitcase. Next to the dressing table, there was a row of figurines, all of which were given to her by Qin Moling. She looked at them but didn’t take them with her.
Qin Moling came home late tonight, and Jian Hang ate dinner alone. She waited for him in the living room for a while, but he still didn’t come, so she went back upstairs.
Qin Moling had a social engagement that evening, and everyone at the dinner table could tell he wasn’t in a good mood. He ended the dinner early, and as they all moved to a second venue, he came straight home.
The house was quiet. He pushed open the bedroom door.
Jian Hang was sitting in front of the vanity playing on her phone. She had just finished a game and wasn’t really into it. She was gathering items, about to log off when she looked up, and Jian Hang saw him in the mirror.
Qin Moling held a bouquet of flowers and walked around the head of the bed, placing the flowers on her bedside table.
“Why haven’t you taken a shower yet?” he asked.
“It’s okay. I was waiting for you.” Jian Hang exited the game.
Qin Moling’s heart softened inexplicably, and he said, “I had a social engagement tonight.”
He unbuttoned his shirt and walked toward her but suddenly stopped in his tracks.
Qin Moling noticed her suitcase standing next to the dressing table. When she said she was waiting for him, she didn’t mean waiting for him to come home; she meant waiting for him to come back so she could talk to him.
“We agreed that we wouldn’t bring company business home.”
Jian Hang locked her phone and calmly said, “I didn’t bring it home.”
Qin Moling looked at the suitcase. “You call this not bringing it home?”
He didn’t want to talk about work when he got home, but now he couldn’t avoid it.
“Jian Hang, when you calmed down, did you ever think about it? All of Lemeng’s products are traditional fast-moving consumer goods. The market can only be driven by products; whatever is available, your division only needs to sell it.
“Some foods you had when you were a child, they still have now. The taste has never changed.
“Jian Hang, if one day you reach my position, you must keep R&D and finance in your own hands. That’s the bottom line.”
Jian Hang nodded. “I know. I will.”
Qin Moling walked over, bent down to pick up the suitcase, but Jian Hang stopped him.
He released the suitcase and stood up straight. “You can be angry, you can lock me out. But you want to separate over just one argument? Don’t you care about this marriage even a little bit?”
Jian Hang stood up from the dressing table. “It’s not about getting a divorce. I’ll just move back to my own apartment first, and then come back after the wedding.”
Qin Moling reached out and pulled her into his arms, his lips touching her forehead. “Don’t be angry.”
“I’m not angry. I’m not throwing a tantrum at you. Our marriage can’t withstand tantrums.” She held her phone, not hugging him.
Jian Hang didn’t want any misunderstandings and wanted to make everything clear.
“President Qin, there will be more arguments between us in the office. Today is just the beginning.
“I thought of a way to save the Fourth Division, and I want to give it a try. I wouldn’t be satisfied if I didn’t try. You have been in a position of power from the beginning, you, like Zhong Yanyue, like Vice President Wu. You wouldn’t understand how rare an opportunity like this is for someone from an ordinary family like me. Now that I’ve encountered one, I want to seize it with all my might.
“President Qin, I’m not sure I’m in the right place as the president of the fourth division.
“I’m not angry, and I don’t blame you. You have your boss’s perspective, and I have my perspective as the general manager of the Fourth Division.
“Don’t worry, I won’t divorce you because of disagreements at the company.”
Jian Hang nudged him, but Qin Moling held her tightly.
She explained more, “If I were angry with you, I wouldn’t wait for you to come back before leaving.”
She would be very busy for the next two months. She had an argument at work, so how could she come home acting like nothing happened? Sharing a bedroom with him would affect her mood and interfere with her working overtime.
Living back in the small apartment would allow her to focus on her work.
She looked up at him and joked, “Living separately also has its advantages. When you see me at the meeting, you might realize you miss me a little bit. So when we argue, you might give in to me a little.”
Qin Moling lowered his head to kiss her, but Jian Hang turned her face away and pointed to the figurines on the dressing table, “I’ll leave those at home. You can help clean them when you have time.”
Qin Moling looked down at her; just now, she had deliberately avoided his kiss.
Jian Hang squeezed his hand, her fingertips gently gliding over the ring on his ring finger. “We had no feelings for each other back then, but I still went to get the marriage certificate with you, and now we’ve spent four or five months together,” she paused, “we got to know each other quite well, and I never once thought about divorce.”
She removed his hand from her waist. “From now on, come to my house for dinner every Friday. If you have a business dinner that night, let me know in advance.”
Qin Moling held her hand tightly, saying, “If you’re worried that I’ll interfere with your overtime work, I’ll sleep in the spare bedroom. If you move to a small apartment, there will be no one to take care of you.”
Jian Hang smiled and said, “I’m not a child anymore. Before I met you, I took care of myself. Now I don’t have social engagements, I don’t have to work overtime at night, and I have plenty of time to cook.”
She spoke first, saying what he was about to say, “As for running, I’ll run two laps around the apartment building. I’ve already ordered a treadmill, so if the weather’s bad, I’ll run at home.”
Jian Hang pulled her hand away from his without looking at him. She put her phone in her bag, slung her bag over her shoulder, and picked up her suitcase.
The suitcase contained only a few clothes and cosmetics, which weren’t heavy, and she easily lifted it. “You’ve been drinking and can’t drive, so you don’t need to take me. I’ll text you when I get home.”
She took a few steps, then turned back and said, “Go to sleep early.”
Before she could even see his face clearly, Jian Hang turned around and walked away.
Marriage First, Love Later translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com
T/N: From beginning to end, I’ve always liked this couple because of how they talked out their relationship in a mature way. Communication is very sexy.
That said, I do think that Jian Hang is being a bit unfair here. She already decided to leave and only waited so she could tell him. That’s not talking as a married couple. That’s her deciding and him having to accept it.
I think that while she is committed to making this marriage work, she still has the mindset of ‘whoever falls in love first, loses’, so she is completely separating how upset she felt that Qin Moling didn’t support her as his wife from her very reasonable desire to fight for the Fourth Division as its GM. She didn’t want to deal with him as her husband AT ALL because she cannot stand him right now as her boss.
Unfortunately for Qin Moling, he is too far gone and can only suffer 😂
