Luo Qi’s pregnancy symptoms were mild; she ate well and slept soundly even after three months, without any discomfort. The only thing that Jiang Shenghe found difficult to adjust to was that after he returned from a business trip abroad, she had gotten used to using her own pillow and covering herself with her own blanket, unlike before when she clung to him to sleep.
After Luo Qi took a shower, Jiang Shenghe dried her hair, his fingertips running through her long hair. “Did you cut your hair?”
“Yeah, I got my hair trimmed today.” Luo Qi looked at him in the mirror. “I thought you wouldn’t notice.”
“How could that be?” Jiang Shenghe replied. “I blow-dry your hair every day, I know how long your hair is.”
Luo Qi leaned back against him, the cool air from the hairdryer blowing against her ears.
After drying her hair, Jiang Shenghe took the hairdryer to the bathroom. When he came out, Luo Qi was already on her side of the bed.
Before he went on his business trip, the other side of their bed was never used, and her pillow was just for show; she never used it.
Jiang Shenghe walked over and asked, “Don’t you want me to hold you while you sleep?”
“No.” Luo Qi burrowed into the covers, pulled them down to her mouth, and looked at him with a smile. “Sleeping alone is very comfortable.”
Jiang Shenghe smiled helplessly, then feigned an accusing tone, “Wouldn’t you call this neglecting me?”
He lowered his head and kissed her. “Come, hold me for a while. Don’t you miss me?”
Luo Qi kissed him back and whispered, “I do.” But she still slept so well these past few nights, falling into a deep sleep before she could even think about him for a few minutes, and when she opened her eyes again it was already the next morning.
She was well rested and was in a good mood. Her pregnancy never affected her work for a single day. Jiang Shenghe even joked that the baby was very sensible and knew that she and Chang Chuxin had a bet, so the baby didn’t want to hold her back.
Jiang Shenghe got into bed, put his arm under her head as a pillow, and pulled her into his arms.
“Do you want to?” he asked, turning off the light and kissing her ear.
This thought was exactly that thought.
Now that the delicate period has passed, it was okay to have marital relations as long as they’re careful.
Luo Qi put her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek.
Jiang Shenghe dared not be too rough, even his kisses to please her were done with great care.
He kissed her slightly protruding belly repeatedly.
“When will we feel the babies move?”
“It should be soon.”
He held her waist with both hands, and Luo Qi placed her hands on the back of his hands. His lips continued to move downwards, and she grabbed a few of his fingers, gripping them tighter and tighter.
Until their hands became sweaty.
The room gradually quieted down.
Jiang Shenghe poured her a glass of water and fed it to her; a fine layer of sweat glistened on the tip of her nose.
After taking a shower, Luo Qi remained lying on her side of the bed, so Jiang Shenghe had to put their two pillows closer together. Luo Qi held on to her pillow instead of him.
She fell asleep in less than ten minutes. Jiang Shenghe lay on his side, propping his head up as he watched her. Her pregnancy symptoms were a bit strange; she didn’t like sleeping in his arms. He could only guess that the little ones in her belly saw him as their natural enemy…
—
The night they discovered they were having fraternal twins, Jiang Shenghe suffered from insomnia again. Luo Qi had already fallen asleep, a slight smile playing on her lips.
He kissed her forehead and gently placed his hand on her lower abdomen, feeling the occasional fetal movements, as if the babies were kicking him, interacting with him.
Unable to sleep, he called his father.
His father heard from his mother earlier that evening that they were having twins, and he was so excited that he too couldn’t sleep.
“Dad, please name the baby boy. We already got a name for the baby girl, Qin Moling picked it out, Little Rose.”
“Let me think about it.” In fact, Father Jiang had already chosen a name, but not wanting his son to be too proud, he pretended to have just started thinking about it.
“I’ll send it to you when I’ve thought it through.”
Half an hour later, Jiang Shenghe received a text message from his father: [Tengteng.]
[You like growing melons, right? Pumpkins and cucumbers, they all have vines, so let’s use a homophone.]
“…”
… …
The following weekend, after Jiang Shenghe accompanied Luo Qi to yoga, he put on his coat.
“Going to the office to work overtime?”
“No overtime,” Jiang Shenghe said. “I’m going to Qin Moling’s house to get some books on prenatal education.”
“No need, we have some at home. You bought them yourself, didn’t you?” That time, he wished he could buy all the books on prenatal education and read stories to her whenever he had free time at night.
Jiang Shenghe insisted, “There are still some that we don’t have at home, I’ll go get a few from him.”
After Luo Qi realized his purpose, she chuckled to herself. He wasn’t thinking about prenatal education books at all; he was going to show off to Qin Moling.
Jiang Shenghe had been frequently distracted and had difficulty concentrating these past two days, so he asked the driver to take him to Qin Moling’s house.
Xiao Duomu was a little over six months old, which was a very fun time for a child. Qin Moling didn’t work overtime today and stayed home to play with his son.
Hearing that Jiang Shenghe had come to borrow prenatal education books, Qin Moling was puzzled and raised an eyebrow at him, “When did you become so good at managing a household?”
Jiang Shenghe seemed nonchalant, “We should save money wherever we can, after all, we have to raise two children.”
“!!”
Qin Moling only knew that Luo Qi was pregnant but didn’t know she was having twins. Just look at how smug this guy Jiang Shenghe was.
“Jian Hang and I also plan to have two children.”
Jiang Shenghe nodded. “I hope your second child is a girl.” He said unhurriedly, “My family is having twins, a boy and a girl.”
“…”
Qin Moling had originally planned to lend him a few books and CDs on prenatal education, but in the end, he kicked him out didn’t lend him any.
Seventh Year of My Secret Love for You translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com
T/N: Baby girl’s name is ‘Xiao Meigui’ which literally translates to Little Rose. It seems Qin Moling again took particular care in choosing this name because like the name of his son—Xiao Duomu—it’s a common enough theme (a flower) but the name itself is not a common one.
The 玫 ‘mei’ here means fine jade. There’s a different 梅 ‘mei’ that is more commonly used for femininity and flowers that means ‘plum blossoms’.
As for 滕滕 ‘Tengteng’, it means to soar or gallop, but it was chosen because it was a homonym to 藤 ‘teng’ which means ‘vine’ 😂
Perhaps ‘Tengteng’ is just a nickname because the Jiang family should have a generational name for its sons.
