The Celestial Masters Mansion was nestled against the mountains and beside the water, boasting a magnificent presence. The ancient buildings were all intricately carved, exuding an antique charm.
This once-in-a-decade grand ceremony was blessed with perfect weather; the sky was clear and the lights were dazzling, making it look like a fairyland.
An Rugu walked into the courtyard of the Celestial Masters Mansion. A gentle breeze carried the faint scent of incense, which made people unconsciously calm their minds.
The temple was solemn and majestic, with Daoist music playing continuously.
Celestial Master Zhang led a group of priests in burning incense and chanting scriptures, performing the rituals in accordance with proper rites.
Every word seemed to penetrate one’s soul, bringing peace and tranquility.
At the end of the ceremony, some believers remained to worship under the statue of the deity.
The Daoist practitioners who had traveled from afar gathered in another courtyard, brewing tea and warming wine, and discussing the Dao. Many of them already knew each other and immediately began chatting, creating a lively scene.
An Rugu was invited to a seat in the front row by a young Daoist priest dressed in a Daoist robe.
“Please wait a moment, the Celestial Master will be here shortly.”
“Alright.”
An Rugu sat upright in the carved chair, her expression indifferent.
She didn’t speak to anyone but just sat quietly.
To date, she could count the number of people she knew in the Daoist sects on one hand. Yet, she was recognized by someone.
“Hey, are you the one who’s all the rage online, ‘Welcome the Sun, Rise from Clouds’?”
A Daoist priest in his forties was looking at her, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Upon hearing him, many people looked towards An Rugu.
“Oh, my little rascal told me about your livestream. I watched it too, and it’s really amazing.”
“How amazing is it?”
“Her account has over 100 million followers!”
These words caused a huge stir, drawing countless glances at An Rugu. These days, livestreaming online was common, but becoming famous was still a mystery; even the most successful ones only had a few hundred thousand followers.
The fact that she has over 100 million fans was simply dazzling.
If gazes had warmth, then An Rugu might have already been scalded to the bone.
Under the intense gazes of the crowd, An Rugu had no choice but to nod. “My online livestreaming account is indeed called ‘Welcome the Sun, Rise from the Clouds’.”
A small number of Daoist hermits who have never heard of this name picked up their phones to search for it, and to their surprise, countless search results popped up after they entered just one word.
Seeing this, everyone felt a little envious.
There was a saying: ‘Rich Buddhist monks, poor Daoist priests.’
These days, many believers were more inclined to Buddhism. Many Daoist temples, like Cloud Rise Temple before, were still poor, without a single yuan for incense offerings. Many Daoist priests live a life of quiet cultivation, penniless and simple.
She was able to turn the tide, adapt to the times, and transform Cloud Rise Temple into its current thriving state; she was truly remarkable.
A short while later, the young Daoist priest led in two more people, the first of whom looked very familiar.
An Rugu looked closely and realized it was Lin Weiyu’s younger brother, Lin Chuji.
He and another man walked through the corridor and went to their seats.
Lin Chuji looked around, and when he saw her, his eyes lit up. He immediately walked over and said, “I told my older sister you would come, and you did.”
Thanks to Lin Chuji’s loudspeaker-style announcements, An Rugu was probably the most frequently mentioned outsider in the Lin family’s conversations.
Many people in the clan have heard of her great achievements.
An Rugu’s gaze fell on the man beside him. “…And who is this?”
The man was handsome but pale, with a sickly flush on his cheeks. Upon closer inspection, his waist was extremely thin, the kind of slender figure many people dream of.
“I forgot to introduce him to you,” Lin Chuji seemed to realize something, and turned to look at the man. “His name is Wei Mingyan, he’s my childhood friend.”
Wei Mingyan nodded to An Rugu as a sign of politeness, his voice somewhat weak as he said, “Hello.”
Seeing that he was in such poor health, Lin Chuji couldn’t help but feel worried.
Unlike the Lin family, who regularly take on feng shui consultations and were active in the mystic arts, the Wei family could be considered a reclusive family, though not as mysterious as many people imagined.
During the previous dynasty, when his great-grandfather was in power, it was said that he offended some troublesome people. As a result, his clansmen ceased to be active in the Daoist realm and began to engage in other professions.
Wei Mingyan was now an internist.
Lin Chuji snapped out of his thoughts. As if he had just remembered something, he said with a glimmer of hope, “Miss An, I watch every one of your livestreams. You seem to know some kind of incantation therapy. Do you think you can cure his illness?”
“What illness does he have?”
Wei Mingyan sat down on the stool next to them, glanced at them, and said, “No need, this disease is incurable.”
Despite being a doctor, he was suffering from a serious illness that was incurable.
Lin Chuji wasn’t as pessimistic as Wei Mingyan. He patted him on the shoulder and comforted him, “She’s really capable. Why don’t you talk to her? It’s always a viable option.”
An Rugu nodded slightly.
Upon hearing this, Wei Mingyan lowered his eyes, pondered for a long time, and then suddenly coughed lightly, looking even weaker.
He turned his head to look at An Rugu, his voice heavy with age, “My family has a terrible hereditary disease that causes us to never live past forty. Whether male or female, no one can escape this curse.”
He was a member of the Daoist realm, so the secrets of heaven as it related to him were obscured to her.
An Rugu didn’t raise her hands to calculate; she directly asked him, “How old are you?”
“Twenty-five.”
He remained calm, his brows slightly furrowed.
Wei Mingyan was twenty-five years old now, and he could only live for another fifteen years at most. No wonder he looked like he’s about to die.
In today’s advanced society, the average lifespan for both men and women exceeded seventy years. While others were just reaching middle age, his family were forced to enter the grave. Almost no one could bear such a thing.
