Jiang Shenghe was kneeling on one knee, wanting to wipe her tears, but he couldn’t reach her face. He hadn’t put the ring on her finger yet, and he didn’t want to just stand up.
He moved the microphone away and lowered his voice, “Don’t cry.”
With so many guests watching them from below the stage, Luo Qi disregarded her tears and eagerly gave him her hand, saying, “I do.”
Jiang Shenghe picked up the microphone again, smiled at her, and said, “I haven’t finished my marriage proposal vows yet.”
Luo Qi pointed her ring finger at the ring and said, “No need to say anything else, I do.” She was extremely embarrassed after saying that.
Another burst of laughter erupted from below.
Jiang Shenghe was both amused and exasperated. She wished she could put the ring on herself so he wouldn’t have to kneel anymore. He himself didn’t think anything of it; he could kneel for as long as he wanted.
After putting the ring on her finger, he stood up and pulled her close, kissing her forehead as he handed the microphone to the host.
The stage was handed over to the host, and the guests’ attention was diverted to him. He put his arm around Luo Qi and led her back to the back of the stage.
Jiang Shenghe gently wiped away her tears with his fingertips; her eyes were red and misty. He continued reciting the marriage proposal he had only half-finished. Since it was just the two of them, there was no need to worry about whether the wording was appropriate.
“If I ever unintentionally upset you, please tell me. Don’t deliberately distance yourself from me.”
But you won’t, she thought.
Luo Qi said it clearly, “I won’t keep my anger inside and make you guess.”
“Whether now or in the future, whether it’s business or personal matters, you will always come first in my life.” He smiled, saying it frankly, “You can say I don’t distinguish between public and private matters, you can say I have no principles, I admit it. I just want to be unprincipled when it comes to you, I just want to favor you. For no other reason than it’s you.”
He also didn’t care about other people’s opinions of him.
Luo Qi’s nose tingled again, and tears streamed down her face.
Jiang Shenghe couldn’t bear to see her cry, no matter the reason. He turned his back to the audience, shielding her in front of him, and gently kissed away her tear stains with his lips. “Don’t cry.”
Luo Qi nodded and sniffled.
“I also have a surprise for you. Want to guess?”
If he had to guess, her surprise was probably to make up for his regrets. The only thing Jiang Shenghe could think of was that it was likely related to the scene shown earlier: she was waiting for the red light to turn green, and he called out to her.
At that time, he was focused on his career and had no intention of dating, let alone confessing his feelings to a girl he had only met once and was only attracted to by her appearance.
Who could have predicted that she would intern at Yuanwei Capital, work on a project proposal, and completely captivate him? Day after day, his attachment to her deepened, and he could no longer let go, no matter how hard he tried.
“Are you going to say that had I called your name that day, you would have turned around?
“If I asked for your contact information at the movie theater and started pursuing you right then and there, you would have liked me too, right?”
Unable to restrain himself, Jiang Shenghe kissed her lips as he spoke, gently brushing them.
Luo Qi clutched his suit jacket, lost in his kiss. The last vestiges of her reason reminded her that this was a wedding banquet, and the guests were still looking at the stage. Even those watching the emcee were glancing at her out of the corner of their eyes.
She gently pushed him away, and Jiang Shenghe pulled away from her lips.
Luo Qi wiped away the lipstick that had accidentally gotten on his upper lip. “What you just said was the first surprise. Good things come in pairs, so here’s another one for you.”
Jiang Shenghe laughed, “I can’t guess this time.”
Luo Qi made him bend down and bring her lips close. She whispered in his ear, “You’re a father now.”
Just as she had imagined, he stared at her, then suddenly fell silent, a mixture of excitement, joy, and disbelief washing over him.
She held his hand, their fingers intertwined. “I also have wedding vows to say. If there really is a next life, I will definitely find you first.
“You will still be called Jiang Shenghe, and I will still be called Luo Qi. I would never have any principles when it comes to you. From getting our marriage certificate, to living together, to having children, it has always been this way. And it will be the same in the future.
“There’s no reason why, I just want to be unprincipled only for you, and I want to make you happy.”
Jiang Shenghe pulled her into his arms and pressed his face against hers.
Luo Qi didn’t look at him. She raised her hand and touched his sharp jawline, then moved upwards to wipe the sides of his nose.
… …
The banquet has already begun, but they were still immersed in their own world, full of joy.
He Wancheng jokingly said to Xu Xiangyi, “You are the most useless wedding officiant in history.”
Xu Xiangyi laughed, “I have to officiate the wedding again in Beijing.” He had been invited on stage by the host, but before he could say a few words, Jiang Shenghe knelt down.
Jiang Shenghe was so nervous that he forgot his wedding proposal vows, so he could understand him forgetting the ceremony where he was to officiate the wedding.
Xu Xiangyi glanced at the stage; the two were still hugging and talking.
It wasn’t until Liang Zhen came over to urge them to toast tables that Luo Qi came to her senses. This was their wedding. She hurriedly let go of Jiang Shenghe’s hand and practically fled to the lounge to change into her dress for toasting.
Jiang Shenghe was eager to share the good news of becoming a father with his mother. “Mom, I hope you will take good care of Doudou and Mimi for the next year.”
“What’s so hard about this?”
Liang Zhen has developed a deep bond with and Doudou and Mimi over time. She missed them after just being apart for a few days. She enjoyed being with them more than she found it tiring.
After walking a few steps, she realized there was a hidden meaning in her son’s words.
“Have you and Luo Qi made some changes to your work that would require frequent business trips, or do you have other plans?”
Jiang Shenghe said with a smile, “Luo Qi is pregnant. She just found out yesterday.”
“I knew it.” Liang Zhen couldn’t stop smiling, happy for her son.
No wonder the two of them were holding hands and whispering on stage, seemingly oblivious to everyone around them, completely lovey-dovey. Luckily, everyone attending the wedding already knew they were always so affectionate, otherwise it would have been unbearable to watch.
