[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 70.2 — The Wedding

After breakfast, Jiang Yifang and Luo Zhiqiu went to the villa. All the relatives had come over today and had been assigned tasks for tomorrow’s wedding. They told her to stay at home and rest.

Luo Qi picked a cucumber, washed it, and ate it while standing at the door, enjoying the view from the window during the day.

In the evening, several bridesmaids came over.

Chu Lin moved from the living room to the bedroom window and sighed, “This life has been worthwhile to have seen this.”

Luo Yu was taking photos of the other two bridesmaids. “Older Sister, did you secretly wipe away tears when you saw this last night?”

Luo Qi just smiled and didn’t say anything. She took out the dresses that she would wear tomorrow. She had been eating a lot these past few days and was afraid that she would gain weight and not look good in them. She tried them on and found that the sizes were just right.

… …

On her wedding day, Luo Qi put on her wedding dress and subconsciously touched her lower abdomen. Thinking of the baby she and Jiang Shenghe were carrying inside, her eyes welled up with tears.

The makeup artist, unaware of the situation, said, “Don’t worry, you don’t have an ounce of fat on your stomach.” Then she added, “You’re too thin.”

After putting on her makeup, Luo Qi sat on the edge of the bed, eagerly awaiting their arrival.

The view was partially blocked by cucumber vines on the windowsill, so she couldn’t see the stone bridge from where she was sitting.

“They’re coming, they’re coming!” Luo Yu ran in from the living room. “Older Sister, do you hear them call to open the door? Please, please don’t open the door!” She checked her hair in front of the mirror one last time, squeezed through the crack in the door, and asked the other bridesmaids to lock the door from the inside.

The living room was filled with laughter and noise, even more lively than during the Chinese New Year.

Jian Hang sat by the window eating candy, while Shen Tang and the resort proprietress sat on the other side of the wooden table. Today, they were there as the bride’s family, to join in the fun and see how the bridesmaids would make things difficult for the groom’s party.

After Jiang Shenghe first went public with their relationship, he posted several wedding portraits painted by Teacher Yu on his WeChat Moments. Today, everyone who had seen photos of the wedding portraits was completely stunned as they entered the room, feeling as if they had entered a painting.

Upon learning that Teacher Yu had personally designed the set, they lined up to take photos.

Jiang Sixun took a candy from the fruit plate on the coffee table, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. Looking at the long line of people waiting to check in, he joked, “Are you deliberately making things difficult for my brother? You all know how much he wants to fetch his bride right now.”

Jiang Shenghe: “…”

He won’t stoop to Jiang Sixun’s level today.

He messaged Luo Qi: [I’ve arrived, I’m in the living room.]

Luo Qi: [I know.]

Jiang Shenghe asked: [Do you miss me?]

[Mm.]

While everyone else was busy queuing, the two of them were deeply in love.

At the bedroom door, the challenges of getting through the bridal party had already begun. Of all the groomsmen and wedding party members present today, Luo Yu was the only one who dared to make things difficult for He Xu without any restraint.

She called on He Xu by name, saying, “You answer the question.”

They told He Xu, “It’s alright, with so many questions, are you afraid you won’t be able to answer any of them?”

“Besides my brother-in-law and yourself, who do you think is the most handsome here right now?”

“…”

Several pairs of eyes stared intently at He Xu.

He Xu turned around. “Where’s my support team? Let the support team answer that.”

Luo Yu smirked. “They’ve already started fighting amongst themselves.”

The room erupted in laughter.

Taking advantage of the commotion, Jiang Shenghe asked Luo Q: [Could you open the door for me first? Just let them continue clearing the levels by themselves.]

Jiang Shenghe went inside, while the other two bridesmaids went out.

Luo Qi laughed and said, “I’ve let you off the hook.”

“Luo Yu has given a lot of thought to this, all to make things difficult for the best man.” Jiang Shenghe leaned over, his hands supporting himself on the edge of the bed beside her. He had seen her with her hair up when they took their wedding photos, but today, it still felt more special.

He lowered his head and gently kissed her lips under the veil.

Luo Qi gripped the hem of her dress with her fingers, and a shiver running through her body.

In the living room, what started as a competition had turned into a massive display of affection.

Luo Yu’s condition was for the groomsmen to send four representatives. Each was to lift an adult using only one arm and he had to hold it for three minutes to pass the test.

Jiang Shengyu and the resort owner often played this game. He could easily lift Shen Tang with one arm, and the resort owner could also easily lift his wife.

Qin Moling and Jian Hang had the least chemistry. He tried twice before finding a suitable support point to lift Jian Hang up.

Jian Hang worried, “I weigh more than them, you might not be able to last three minutes.” She had just given birth less than three months ago and hadn’t deliberately tried to lose weight. She was more than 10 catty1 heavier than before she was pregnant, now weighing over 100 catty.

These 10-odd catty could very well be the key to whether they could win.

Qin Moling said, ”It’s okay. If I really can’t carry you anymore, I’ll drag Jiang Shengyu down with us and we’ll be tied for last place.”

“…” Jian Hang chuckled.

Someone asked, “Hey? Where’s the groom?”

So they started looking for the groom, but one couldn’t be found in the living room or courtyard.

Someone chimed in, “Jiang Shenghe lost weight for love, becoming as thin as lightning, and flashed into the bedroom.”

The room was filled with wild laughter.

Those competing in the one-handed lift all burst into laughter and lost their balance.

Everyone failed to pass this checkpoint.

It took more than two hours of commotion to finally pick up the bride. Luo Qi hugged her parents; Jiang Yifang and Luo Zhiqiu were overjoyed and also shed tears.

In the crowd, Luo Qi saw Grandma Qian. She walked over, bent down, and hugged Grandma Qian. At that moment, all the words she wanted to say were stuck in her heart.

Grandma Qian stroked her cheek with her rough hands, “It’s all good.”

Jiang Shenghe picked her up in his arms, carried her across the stone bridge, along the riverside cobblestone path, past the convenience store and the flower shop.

T/N: I just realized Jiang Sixun doesn’t follow the name for his generation which is ‘Sheng’ (Jiang Shenghe and Jiang Shengyu). This is probably because when he was born he followed the naming convention of his father’s side of the family. I’d have to go back and check but I think he only adopted the surname ‘Jiang’ after his parents divorced and he followed his mother.

FOOTNOTE:

  1. This should be about 5 kilos. Catty (or jin) is a traditional unit of mass used in East and South East Asia, and what it is, is complicated. In modern times, it has been standardized in PRC as 500grams, but is 600grams in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Thailand, and a little over 604 grams (it varies by decimal point!) in HK, Singapore, and Malaysia. ↩︎
