[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 69.2 — Before the Wedding

After the New Year, Jiang Shenghe would go to Suzhou almost every other week. He didn’t say he was on a business trip or what he was doing. Every time he went to Suzhou, he would also visit her parents’ home and have a meal with them.

He was still in Suzhou when Qin Moling’s son was born.

Luo Qi went to the hospital alone to see Jian Hang and the baby. That evening, she video-chatted with Jiang Shenghe and described the newborn baby to him.

“The baby’s name is Xiao Duomu.”

“I know,” Jiang Shenghe said. “I even know the baby’s height, weight, and blood type. Qin Moling sent it to me a long time ago.”

Luo Qi laughed. “No wonder you’re classmates.”

“When it’s our turn, I’ll send him the details too.”

“…”

That night, Luo Qi put away all the boxes of condoms in the house; this was the second time she had done so. They hadn’t used them for a while after going public with their relationship last year, but she hadn’t gotten pregnant.

There were still two months until the wedding. Even if she got pregnant now, it wouldn’t affect her wearing the wedding dress.

Her phone vibrated; Luo Yu had sent her a photo.

[Sis, how do I look? Am I pretty? (shyly) (smirking)]

The custom-made bridesmaid dresses arrived at the store this afternoon. After trying them on, Luo Yu asked He Xu to take a few pictures of her and then sent them to her cousin.

Luo Qi smiled and exclaimed, [Whose little fairy is this?]

Luo Yu was overjoyed and shamelessly replied: [He Xu’s family.]

… …

Luo Qi had four bridesmaids: her cousin, Chu Lin, and two high school classmates. The latter both worked in Suzhou, so it was very convenient for them.

Of the four, Luo Yu was the youngest and most mischievous. They formed a bridesmaid group chat and unanimously agreed to let Luo Yu represent them in testing the groom and groomsmen on the wedding day.

[Brother-in-law doesn’t need further testing, but I won’t let any of the others off the hook.] Luo Yu has eighteen layers of beauty filters for Jiang Shenghe and Jiang Yueru, and they were only getting thicker and thicker.

Chu Lin chimed in the group chat: [I’m not good with words, but I’ll play a few more songs to cheer you on.]

Luo Yu: [How will you play without a piano?]

Chu Lin: [Luo Qi said she has one at home, a piano she bought when she was a child. It’s very meaningful.]

Luo Yu: [We’ve been keeping this from my sister. The house has changed drastically; I’m not even sure if the piano is still there. They might have moved it to the villa.]

Chu Lin asked: [Has the old house been renovated?]

Luo Yu: [Yes, it took a lot of effort. It was a surprise my brother-in-law planned for my sister. I visited once before the renovation was finished, and after seeing it, I wanted to move in immediately.]

This sparked Chu Lin’s curiosity, and she looked forward to the wedding more.

… …

Two days before the wedding, Luo Qi went to the company as usual, attended a meeting in the morning, and took a train back to Suzhou in the afternoon. Apart from a few people from the President’s Office, all of their colleagues from Yuanwei would be attending the wedding in Beijing.

During the meeting, Luo Qi couldn’t help but yawn twice, and quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

Chi Xin thought that Luo Qi hadn’t rested well recently because she was busy with the wedding, but in fact, Luo Qi hasn’t been busy with the wedding preparations for a single day; it was all handled by Jiang Shenghe.

Luo Qi felt a little tired, but not very sleepy. She attributed her yawning to packing her luggage that morning, which made her wake up an hour earlier than usual.

After the meeting, Shu Rui stayed behind and privately told her, “I’m going to Shanghai on a business trip in a couple of days. Chang Chuxin introduced a big client to Ruipu. I’ll go over and have a chat with him.”

Luo Qi couldn’t believe it. “Chang Chuxin introduced clients to us?”

“Mm.” Shu Rui screwed on the cap of his tumbler. He had been flattered when he received Chang Chuxin’s call; after all, no company executive wants another company in the same industry to do better than them.

“You prioritizing hiring their laid-off teams made him willing to act as a go-between.”

Shu Rui gripped his tumbler, slowly stood up, hesitated for a few seconds, then turned to look at Luo Qi. “I wish you a happy marriage, and may you have a blissful life together.”

“Thanks.”

Shu Rui left with his laptop, while Luo Qi was the last to leave the conference room.

She had a train ticket for 3:30 PM and planned to have lunch with Jiang Shenghe at the company cafeteria.

Luo Qi has had an unusually good appetite these past two days. In the past, one or two pieces of meat were enough for her, but today she finished all the meat that Jiang Shenghe put on her plate, and she even asked for spicy and sour bamboo shoots.

Jiang Shenghe was worried that she wouldn’t be able to eat such spicy food, so he said, “Try a bite first, and if you think it’s too spicy, then I’ll eat it.”

Luo Qi shook her head, “It’s neither sour nor spicy.”

She smiled and said, “Maybe it’s because I’m in a good mood that everything tastes good.”

For the first time ever, Jiang Shenghe already finished and she was still eating.

… …

This time, they couldn’t get tickets for adjacent seats; their two seats were separated by an aisle. Three years ago, when she and Jiang Shenghe first went to Suzhou on a business trip, they had similar seats.

As before, he gave her the side with the better view.

Luo Qi opened her camera, stopped taking pictures of the view outside the window, and took a selfie, including Jiang Shenghe in the shot. Jiang Shenghe suddenly turned to look at her, so she switched cameras and casually took pictures of the view outside the window.

Jiang Shenghe was arranging the wedding procession, and He Xu was one of the best men. He Xu also volunteered to take care of the wedding car and the wedding banquet.

His family and friends were arriving in Suzhou tomorrow and will all be staying at the same hotel he always stayed at when he traveled there for work, which was less than 500 meters from Luo Qi’s house.

Jiang Sixun’s plane will land in Shanghai tomorrow morning, and he will arrive in Suzhou in the afternoon. He brought Rere with him, saying that Rere must witness his and Luo Qi’s happiness.

Qin Moling asked in the group chat: [Is the hotel far from Luo Qi’s house? Jian Hang is going to Luo Qi’s house that day.]

[It’s not far. Just a few minutes’ walk.]

When Jiang Shenghe looked up again, Luo Qi was already asleep in her chair. He took his coat from the luggage and draped it over her, but she was fast asleep and didn’t move even when he covered her with the coat.

When Luo Qi woke up, the high-speed train had arrived at the station.

She slept for more than four hours without waking up. She had slept on the train before but never for so long or so deeply. She got up an hour earlier today and ended up sleeping the whole train ride.

Jiang Shenghe said, “You don’t need to get up early tomorrow, sleep in a little longer.”

He was originally heading to their marital house, but when he got to the car, he asked Luo Qi, “Do you want me to keep you company tonight?”

Luo Qi nodded, “Mm.”

She grasped his hand.

“I can only stay with you for a few hours; I can’t stay the night,” Jiang Shenghe said.

He told the driver to go back to the old house in the alley first.

Luo Zhiqiu and Jiang Yifang were still in the wedding banquet hall. No one was home. Luo Qi took out her key to open the door and turned on the light. Looking at the interior decoration, she froze on the spot.

A walnut-colored dining table was sitting by the window, with a vase of flowers on it. Apart from this table—the chairs, sofa, and piano—there were no other items in the living room.

The walls, wooden windows, and doors have been given an antique finish, with colors matching those in the oil painting.

It was as if she had accidentally stepped into the wedding dress oil painting that Teacher Yu had painted for them.

Seventh Year of My Secret Love for You translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com

T/N: Qin Moling’s newborn son is called ‘Xiao Duomu’ 小多木which literally means Little Abundant Woods, evoking the imagery of a lush, wooded area.

The thing is, ‘Duomo’ 多木 is not common at all. Most people would use ‘Lin’ 林 — like the protagonists in my other translation work, Serve As Contrast Team In A Dad With Baby Show (shameless plug.jpg). See how Lin 林 is just two 木 (tree) smooshed together to show many trees, while Duomu is 多(many) 木 (tree).

But Qin Moling is said to be very good in prose so I’m sure he chose this name with much particularity.
