Qian Weilai grew annoyed that she kept pestering him. Seeing that she seemed to be able to communicate, he boldly followed her logic and said, “I just took you out of the coffin. I didn’t touch your things at all. What do I have to say for you to believe me?”

The little jiangshi blinked, “Give me the candy, and I’ll believe you.”

Seeing that she wasn’t angry, Qian Weilai’s voice grew louder and bolder, “I said I didn’t take it, and I really didn’t take it. There are so many candies that taste better than the one you had. How about this, let’s go to the supermarket and you can pick one yourself, and I’ll pay for it for you.”

The little jiangshi looked up at his face, slowly drifting into a daze, the sounds in her ears gradually distorting into voices of many men.

The other person strangled her neck with a rope, and the pain spread throughout her body, causing her vision to gradually darken.

The little jiangshi shook her head, “I don’t want your promise.”

“So what exactly do you want?”

She said in a measured tone, “I want you dead.”

Her tone was so childlike, as if she were casually asking her mother for a snack. She uttered the most terrifying words in the calmest of tones.

She heard Qian Weilai’s words clearly.

He not only stole the candy that woman gave her, but he was also trying to take her away from the woman who gave her the candy…

This little jiangshi looked quite friendly before, how did she suddenly reveal her true colors?

As a top-level jiangshi, she was unafraid of sunlight and fire, possessed a near indestructible body, had high self-healing ability, and tenacious vitality. Even though Qian Weilai’s talisman skills were actually quite strong, the fire talisman did negligible damage to her.

When Qian Weilai saw her approaching, he was on high alert, grinding his teeth.

He’s about to die at the hands of a little jiangshi before he could even see his target. It’s infuriating!

A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he pulled out a handful of fire talismans and flung them all at the little jiangshi. A deluge of fireballs surrounded the jiangshi, almost burning it to a crisp.

While the little jiangshi was dealing with the fire talisman, he took out an incense stick from his pocket, recited a spell, and lit the incense. The smoke rose and filled the air.

The little jiangshi shook her body, the charred skin fell off, and its skin became smooth and flawless again.

She continued walking towards Qian Weilai, when suddenly a terrifying aura descended upon her, and a dense yin energy began to howl inside the room, almost forming a tornado.

As the tornado receded, a man stood before them. He wore a white robe embroidered with green bamboo, held a folding fan, and exuded a dashing and debonair air.

He raised his hand and bowed to the little jiangshi with a very solemn attitude, as if he didn’t care that she looked like a four-year-old child, “I am the Ghost King of Green Mountain. Greetings.”

When Qian Weilai saw the Green Mountain Ghost King arrive, he was extremely pleased with himself and quickly asked, “Sir, I wonder if you could subdue this little jiangshi?”

The Green Mountain Ghost King shook his folding fan, a smile on his face. “Don’t worry.”

His abilities were comparable to that of the great jiangshi, the drought demon, while this unbreakable bones jiangshi had only just developed consciousness and was not particularly powerful, far inferior to his own.

He raised his folding fan, conjuring a chilling wind, and hurled it at the little jiangshi.

However, at this moment, a sudden change occurred. Countless golden flying swords pierced the air and rushed towards him.

“Not good.”

The Green Mountain Ghost King, clutching his folding fan, took two steps back, forced to fan himself with a gust of yin wind to block the golden flying swords. The golden flying swords and the yin energy vanished simultaneously.

An Rugu walked into the room and frowned as she looked at the bustling room.

T/N: This drought demon, Hanba, has a complicated background.

She started out as celestial maiden who, along with Yinglong (a winged dragon), aided the Yellow Emperor in a great war. Although they won, the two could no longer return to the heavens so the dragon went to the South—where he caused a lot of rain (dragons are related to water)—and she stayed in the North and caused droughts. 

At that time she was seen as deity, and people tried to appease her (or gently persuade her away) for better weather.

As the dynasties changed and people no longer worshipped nature, she gradually turned evil, becoming a demon wreaking havoc. Then later she became a powerful jiangshi.

During mid-Ming dynasty (1368-1644), there rose the rural belief that newly buried corpses turn into jiangshi who are drought demons. Indications would be a watery grave with no grass growing over it, and when dug up, the corpse would not be decomposed. The only remedy is to burn the body.
