[DayTheEngagementWasBroken] Chapter 30.2 — Teasing Cats and Dogs

Gou An pricked up her ears and listened for a while but soon felt a little bored. She glanced at He Ran sitting on the other side of He Jinxing. He Ran had a gloomy face and no one knew what he was thinking. The bowl of soup that the waiter had served at the beginning was left there, untouched.

He seemed very distressed.

Gou An just wanted to be a bit of a sadist to this masochist.

She casually picked up the small wine cup filled with a little Wuliangye liquor and raised it to He Ran, “Come on, Young Master He, if we can’t drink the wedding wine, how about a parting drink?”

Hovering in the air, screeching Meow! Meow! Meow!, the cat was going absolutely crazy—

[Jiao Jiao: …Can’t you take a break?]

[Jiao Jiao: Do I have to go through all the trouble of arranging everything on the list?!]

He Ran looked up at her with a gloomy face.

The smile on her face was flawless, and there was no sign that she was forced to smile at all.

The veins on He Ran’s forehead throbbed, and he was about to curse when he heard He Jinxing say calmly, “Okay, A’ Ran, I taught you to finish what you start.”

So he had to stand up with a gloomy expression, support himself on the table, and drink this inexplicable farewell drink with tea instead of wine, his face stinky and swollen, very reluctantly.

Putting down the wine cup, Gou An accidentally caught a glimpse of Ye Lang in the corner, standing there motionless with a serious face.

Gou An: “…”

[Jiao Jiao: The share of money to provoke him has already been used up downstairs! ! ! ]

[Jiao Jiao: Please!!!]

[Jiao Jiao: Damn it!!!]

Gou An: “…”

Silently shifting her gaze, Miss Gou discovered the unfortunate fact that the person she liked most tonight was actually the young uncle from next-door…

He was a great hero today as he defeated both Ye Lang and He Ran without making any noise and without even appearing in the arena.

At this time, the man had taken off his suit jacket and was only wearing a shirt. The shirt cuffs were folded slightly above the wrist. On the wrist closest to her, there was an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch.

Made of stainless steel, with a dark dial.

With each slight movement of his hand, she seemed to hear the ticking sound of the watch. At the same time, the now familiar scent of that murderer’s honeyed cologne drifted into her nose.

Her eyes were fixed on the protruding joints on his wrists.

Before Gou An realized it, she was already muttering in her heart, “Why do you just keep talking? You need to be full to have the energy to deal with others.”

Then she stretched out her chopsticks to pick up one of the crystal shrimp dumplings that happened to be in front of her and put them in the man’s white porcelain bowl next to her.

The round, bite-sized, crystal shrimp dumplings rolled into the ceramic bowl. Gou An even used her own chopsticks.

The whole process was done silently.

“Chen Jinli told me a few days ago that he hopes the development of Jinshan Wharf will still be based on the principle of environmental protection.”

Only He Jinxing’s obvious pause and unnatural and strange intonation revealed that he did not miss the fact that he was being fed by someone.

Actually, He Jinxing didn’t have to react at all…

The person who was feeding the baby came to her senses on her own and started to tear herself apart first.

[Jiaojiao: ……]

[Jiaojiao: What are you doing?]

Gou An: …

Gou An: I don’t know.

Gou An: It may be because of your words ‘make arrangements for everyone on the list’.

[Jiaojiao: Are you blaming me?? Please be a good person. Tell me, which of us is the small animal? You did something stupid yourself and yet you want to blame a poor cat!!!]

Gou An: It is also possible that I have been confused by the male protagonist because he messed up Ye Lang and He Ran.

Gou An: Would it be even more outrageous if I picked it up now and ate it myself?

[Jiaojiao: Yes!]

Gou An was so anxious she about to break the chopsticks in her hand, especially when the fat cat asked in a confused tone, [Are you the one trying to win over the male protagonist or is the male protagonist trying to win over you?]

She felt that her face might be as pale as the skin of the crystal shrimp dumplings.

Her soul has already floated out of her body from the corner of the mouth1.

He Jinxing didn’t touch the food she picked up for him at all.

Ahh, this is even worse!

In Gou An’s mind, she was already grabbing her own hair, twisting and turning wildly, screaming: Ahhhhhh I’m disliked! Help me, the favorability level hasn’t moved, is it stuck? Does he have mysophobia? If so, I’m completely screwed, the favorability level will probably be reset to zero, and I can go directly to the next world!

[Jiao Jiao: The next world for you is only before the front desk of the King of Hell.]

[Jiao Jiao: You are a female supporting character who has awakened in a book, not a female supporting character who will transmigrate.]

Gou An: “…”

If that wasn’t the case, she’d be better off jumping off the building herself.

When she was so embarrassed that her toes were frantically digging the ground in her shoes, she saw He Jinxing’s hands move. He picked up his cell phone while talking to Gou Yu.

He unlocked his phone and entered a certain page, tapped a few times, then put it down again with a normal expression.

At the same time that he put down his phone, Gou An saw her phone screen light up, indicating that there was a new WeChat message coming in.

She stopped meddling in Mr. He’s affairs from the corner of her eye, stretched her neck, opened her phone and took a look—

Then she was utterly shocked to see that the Crayon Shin-chan avatar that had been lying idle in the friend list for a while now has lit up and appeared at the top of the chat list.

[HJX: ?]

Just a question mark.

This question mark contained a lot of information. Based on Gou An’s understanding of him (actually, she didn’t know him very well), he may feel that she was hopelessly stupid and has somehow lost her ability to pick up food, so the food she wanted to eat ended up in his bowl.

It was a wonder she didn’t turn hostile on the spot.

Holding the phone, Gou An did not reply to him but took direct action as her reply—

She picked up another crystal shrimp dumpling with her chopsticks and put it in her bowl, then started eating it seriously.

In fact, her ears were erect and on high alert.

And the tips were suspiciously red.

Beside her, He Jinxing acted as if nothing had happened, still chatting with Gou Yu who was sitting across from He Ran about a piece of land at Jinshan Wharf. It sounded like her father was asking for a lot of money, daydreaming in broad daylight—

“An’an really loves marine animals,” Gou Yu said. “When she was little, she got mad at me because I couldn’t revive the Mosasaur, and no matter how I tried to appease her, she wouldn’t stop crying.

“So she went to the Oceanology College of Jiangcheng’s A University, which has the most comprehensive marine research in the country.

“With her college entrance examination score, she could have gone to a better school.”

Gou Yu said so much just to get He Jinxing to advance the money to build the country’s (even the world’s) largest seaside oceanarium at the Jinshan Wharf, which was currently under development. Mr. Gou was even shameless enough to say that building an oceanarium that purely simulates the living environment of marine life without any animal performances was An’an’s second dream since she was a child—besides resurrecting the Mosasaur. How could an elder bear to not satisfy her?

Gou An sipped the soup in the shrimp dumpling and thought to herself, At that time, what you said was ‘If An’an wanted the moon in the sky, daddy would give it to her.’ Now, you draw the pie yourself and throw it to He Jinxing to bake?

Hmp. It would be strange if he paid you any attention.

Just as she was sighing at the unreliability of men, she heard He Jinxing say, “It’s not impossible to consider it.”

Gou An: “?”

While Gou An thought there was something wrong with her ears, she saw out of the corner of her eye that while the man was talking to Gou Yu, he picked up the spoon very naturally and put the crystal shrimp dumpling that had been neglected for a while into his mouth.

No one at the table noticed anything was wrong.

Only Gou Yu—who had been paying attention to He Jinxing the entire time and had seen the series of small movements made by his daughter since she was sitting next to Mr. He—reacted.

Gou Yu’s psychological quality was obviously not as strong as He Jinxing’s.

This caused him to stop mid-sentence. The usually eloquent Mr. Gou opened his mouth and was—quite rare for him—unable to speak.

At this moment, the expression on his face was hesitant and confused, as if he was a little doubtful about what he had just seen.

T/N: I love how Gou An, who was dying of embarrassment, immediately pivots to almost going feral the moment she felt He Jinxing was questioning her intelligence.

Wuliangye (5 Grain Spirit) is a premium baijiu—often translated as ‘white wine’ but more accurate to say its clear alcohol, like soju and sake. As the name implies, it is made from 5 cereal grains: sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, wheat, and corn. Per google, a 750 ml of their base brand is around US$275, and the highest grade is priced at a whopping US$3,375.

Audemar Piguet Old Oak, on average priced at US$45k but can be as high as US$300k.

Crystal shrimp dumplings. The have very thin, translucent skin wrappings and are about the size of a golf ball. Very yummy.

And finally, the Mosasaur. It’s an extinct group of large aquatic reptiles during the Late Cretaceous period (100-66 million years ago). Little An’an likes them.

  1. Aaaah, I love their interaction so much!!! He jingxin is truly a man hard to read, and although intimidating and excessively dutiful he is a character well written.

    Thanks for the chapters!

I really love the way the characters here are written. I think if I hadn’t already started translating, I would have been convinced to do so after reading this.
