Lin Zhenming feigned a sigh and added, “Well, Eldest Brother hasn’t had many Lin projects or businesses in his hands in recent years, so his current situation didn’t have much impact on us. However, we do still need to reorganize our projects and businesses.
“The situation in J-town have stabilized. Xuefen, Xiao Zheng, and I discussed it, and we’ve decided to stay home this time. This will make it easier for us to take care of you, and it will also allow our son to familiarize himself with the family business and make it easier for him to manage everything later.”
After Lin Zhenming revealed his true purpose, he looked up at Old Master Lin, his eyes trembling slightly, not out of nervousness, but out of excitement.
They were certain that after Lin Zhenhong’s incident, their family was now Old Master Lin’s best and only option.
However, Old Master Lin simply looked at them with an unreadable expression, without expressing his opinion.
The atmosphere was a bit solemn.
Yang Xuefen was irritated and started to find trouble with others.
“What’s going on? We have been sitting here for so long, and no one has poured us a cup of tea. For such a big house, why don’t you hire a few more nannies?” Yang Xuefen complained, pointing at Butler Zhou beside her.
When Butler Zhou heard this, a hint of irony flashed in his eyes.
This was not the old society. Who would hire a boatload of ‘servants’ to serve at home? Besides, everyone has their own things to do at this time. This family of three didn’t treat themselves as outsiders when they came back, how come they couldn’t even pour themselves water?
Butler Zhou complained in his heart, but still said “Wait a minute”, turned around and asked someone to make tea for Lin Zhenming and others.
The tea was eventually brewed.
Seeing Butler Zhou carrying tea to the living room, Lin Momo quickly ran forward to help him take the tray.
“Grandpa Zhou, let me help you.”
“Okay, thank you, Momo,” Butler Zhou nodded with a smile, adding, “Just hold these cups. The teapot’s hot, don’t burn yourself.”
“Okay,” Lin Momo replied, helping to place the cups in front of Lin Zhenming and his family.
Seeing this, Yang Xuefen said lightly, “Wow, Momo, you’re really considerate to come and help us with the tea cups yourself.”
Lin Momo smiled back at the others, then replied in a sweet, clear voice, “Because Great-grandpa said we should be polite to guests.”
Lin Momo’s words immediately made Lin Zhenming, Yang Xuefen, and the Lin Zheng turn green with anger: What do you mean by ‘guests’? When did they become guests?!
Lin Cheng tried to hold back a laugh but really couldn’t help it.
He hadn’t expected Lin Momo to have such a talent for getting people so mad they were nearly frothing at the mouth.
Sitting nearby, Old Master Lin couldn’t help but nod, silently praising his great-granddaughter’s clear sense of friend and foe.
Before Lin Zhenming and the other two could speak, Lin Cheng spoke up, “It was me who arranged for Lin Zheng to assigned to J-town.”
These words startled them all.
“What do you mean by that?” Lin Zhenming demanded, his expression visibly darkening.
“Exactly what I said.
“Also, I was the one who approved those new projects you guys secured,” Lin Cheng said casually, then added a comment, “Not bad.”
“You—!” Lin Zhenming and the other two stood up from the sofa.
“That’s impossible!” Lin Zhenming exclaimed, his eyes wide.
They had always assumed that Old Master Lin was the mastermind behind Lin Zheng’s assignment, as well as assisting them secure those projects— they never once imagined it would be Lin Cheng!
Lin Zhenming looked at Old Master Lin, trying to get the answer he wanted from him.
But he heard Old Master Lin say calmly, “As you know, my health has been getting worse over the past few years. So, these days, Lin Cheng has been handling all the affairs of the Lin family.”
Upon hearing Old Master Lin’s words, Lin Zhenming’s face paled.
From the beginning, he had always believed that Lin Zhenhong was his biggest competition in taking over the Lin family. As for Lin Cheng, he hadn’t really taken him seriously. He had never imagined that while they were focused on dealing with Lin Zhenhong and the Ye family, Lin Cheng, while ostensibly continuing his idle career in the entertainment industry, had quietly begun taking over the Lin family’s affairs.
So what was the point of all their preparations and subsequent actions?
In the end, they just made clowns of themselves?
“Old Master, how could you leave those matters to Lin Cheng?” Yang Xuefen, unable to hold back any longer and directly questioned Old Master Lin.
This question only earned her a cold glare from Old Master Lin.
“Why not? I think it’s just right for him,” Old Man Lin said without hesitation.
“But…” Lin Zhenming was about to say something else, but was interrupted by Lin Cheng.
“Second Uncle, if you have anything to say about the Lin family business, you can talk to me. Don’t disturb Grandpa’s rest.”
With that, Lin Cheng checked the time and said to Lin Momo, “Momo, go grab your schoolbag. We’re leaving.”
“Okay.”
As Lin Momo went to retrieve her bag, Lin Cheng looked at Lin Zhenming and the other two and said expressionlessly, “Since you’re doing well at the J-town, continue working there.”
Lin Cheng’s words weren’t suggestions; the were instructions.
Lin Zhenming could refuse, but then they wouldn’t even be able to get their hands on the J-town business.
Lin Zhenming’s eyes met Lin Cheng’s, and even he couldn’t tell if he was angry or afraid. His lips trembled, until finally he couldn’t speak out at all.
For the first time, Lin Zhenming felt pressure and fear from his nephew.
Meanwhile, Lin Momo had already gathered her belongings and said goodbye to Old Master Lin, Butler Zhou, and the others.
Before leaving, Lin Cheng glanced at Lin Zhenming’s family and the pile of health supplements on the table, then said, “Since you’re here, why not stay for dinner?”
Then, looking at the butler Zhou beside him, he instructed, “Treat our guests well.”
Hearing this, the butler Zhou suppressed a laugh and nodded in agreement.
He finally understood where Momo had learned her ways of irritating others.
