[ILivestreamDivination] Chapter 45.5 — Prince Wei

It was now past seven o’clock in the evening. Except for the people working 996, almost all other office workers were now taking a rest. It was peak traffic.

The number of people online in the livestream channel has reached 2.12 million, and the popularity has reached 63.12 million, breaking the record of the Shark Platform.

Countless people in the media learned that an ancient tomb was discovered and a mysterious golden door was opened. The owner of the tomb was clearly someone extremely wealthy. After hearing the news, they immediately rushed to Blackwater Village regardless of the fact that it was night.

They all wanted to get headlines first-hand.

An Rugu had made a phone call earlier. Although the mountain road was difficult and dangerous, the police still arrived.

At the same time, many officers from the national government were also in a hurry.

The drone of helicopters was heard incessantly, resounding in the outskirts of Blackwater Village.

The reason for each and every one of these lively scenes was An Rugu’s livestream.

After An Rugu learned the secret of ever-burning lantern, as usual, she reported the matter to the Special Cases Management Bureau. After this, someone from the Special Cases Management Bureau would coordinate with the ever-burning lantern to eliminate the curse on the objects that would be taken away from the ancient tomb.

Professor Zhang from the archaeological team was overjoyed and told An Rugu the information he had learned. “Based on various clues, we inferred that this is a prince’s tomb from the Ming Dynasty.”

“Do you know who it is?” An Rugu replied.

It was not surprising. There were things that could not be bought even if you had money, if they were not an emperor, then the person must be a prince and from the imperial family.

“We have very little information at hand. We have three suspects, and the most likely one is Prince Wei.”

“Who is he?”

“Prince Wei was the grandson of Emperor Hongwu. He was extremely favored by two emperors. However, he was weak and had no outstanding political achievements and no outstanding military exploits.

“This was recorded in the history books, but it was only a handful of lines. I don’t feel certain about this. It wasn’t until I saw the golden belt in the tomb that I realized how favored he really was.

“There are about twelve gold and jade belts in Dingling. Do you know how many he has? He has fifteen!

“This does not violate etiquette, because they were all rewards after death and would not be considered overstepping.”

Professor Zhang said this, and he was filled with emotion. The situation was even more shocking than he had previously thought before coming here. This tomb was only slightly less luxurious than Dingling.

An Rugu was a little stunned. “I see, did he have no children in his life?”

“No, he only had one wife and had no children in his life. At that time, if he had no children, no one would inherit the family property, and it would revert to the imperial treasury. So I guess this was why Prince Wei brought almost all his gold and silver treasures to the tomb.”

Professor Zhang had watched the livestream and learned about the sacrificial burial of a living person. He was very moved and put forward his own ideas.

“Judging from the murals, the relationship between the two of them should be very good. I have an idea that one of the reasons why Prince Wei asked the princess consort to be buried with him was because he thought that after his death, the family property would be confiscated and his wife would hit rock bottom. He might have thought that it would be better to arrange things this way. I just don’t know whether the princess consort agreed to the sacrificial burial.”

“She didn’t agree.”

Professor Zhang: “???”

“How do you know?”

They could only guess what happened from the murals; could she even guess the thoughts of those who were already buried?

An Rugu did not speak directly but took out a safety talisman from her pocket. “Professor Zhang, do you want to buy a talisman? You are in tombs with strong yin energy all year round—this is actually quite necessary for you.”

Professor Zhang was speechless. After watching today’s livestream, he was already very convinced of An Ru.

Did she mean… she learned it directly from the mouth of the dead person?

Is Princess Consort Wei’s soul still in the grave?

Thinking of the ghost that lit the lantern, he shuddered and cold sweat broke out on his forehead. “I will buy, please give me ten…”

He had to give one to all of his students.

“Okay.”

Even when people asked her to stay longer, An Rugu didn’t agree. She said they could just coordinate with the Special Cases Management Bureau and directly went back with her luggage.

Returning to Cloud Rise Temple, she felt a sense of peace in her heart. No matter how nice the place she went to was, the place she was used to living in was the most comfortable.

… …

Lin Weiyu called her specially, with a tone full of surprise: “Miss An, I really didn’t expect you to enter the ancient tomb.”

She was a fortune teller, could read feng shui, and could craft very powerful talismans… She was simply a genius that they have not been encountered for a hundred years.

An Rugu sat on her chair as usual, took a sip of tea, and said with a relaxed expression, “It’s just a coincidence, it’s actually my first time to go inside an ancient tomb.”

Lin Weiyu: “???” ”

But then how are you so skilled?”

In the livestream, her expression was always calm, her steps steady, and her movements were fast and accurate. She was even more of a tomb robber than a tomb robber! It was completely impossible to tell that this was the first time she had visited an ancient tomb.

Lin Weiyu thought about it and felt her hair standing up.

“Hmm… maybe it’s because I don’t feel scared very much.” An Rugu had thought for a moment and came to this conclusion.

People needed training to overcome fear, but she seemed to be born with a lack of fear. There was almost nothing that could make her feel scared.

Darkness, snakes, insects, ghosts, evil spirits, witchcraft… none of them could scare her.

“How awesome!” Lin Weiyu sighed sincerely.

She actually called for other reasons. An Rugu had been approved to receive a bunch of bonuses for helping the archaeological team to solve the curse. This would be transferred to her card later.

… …

When An Rugu received the money, she calculated the time. Today was the tenth day after the eighth livestream. It was now the time of the ninth livestream.

T/N: The author says there is no Prince Wei of the Ming dynasty and that this is a parallel world.

Ming Dingling is the mausoleum where Emperor Wan Li and his two empresses were buried. It is part of the 13 imperial tombs of the Ming dynasty and the only one excavated since the founding of the PRC. The excavation ran into several problems—including coinciding with the Cultural Revolution when fervent Red Guards stormed the museum and tomb and dragged the emperor and empresses’ remains, denounced them, burned and threw them away. The unfavorable aftermath led to the current government policy not to excavate any historical sites unless for rescue purposes.

One response to “[ILivestreamDivination] Chapter 45.5 — Prince Wei”

  1. It’s really interesting what people do – it would never occur to me to take centuries-old corpses and destroy them for some kind of statement. I don’t even have a ton of reverence for ancient things, but desecrating bodies is gross and it’s just..what does that achieve? I guess the symbolic f-you at imperialism?

it’s interesting what the professor hypothesized about the living sacrifice. I was considering a similar idea when you mentioned researching it on the last chapter, but I wonder if the practice had an origin that made sense initially, but over time evolved into an unnecessary tradition. Like perhaps if the husband died, the wife faced a terrible future, so this was seen as merciful (and perhaps was even voluntary…some ancient customs are wild to our modern sensibilities). It could even apply to households, where the master’s death could mean selling off/killing servants for various reasons, so instead they “accompany” him in death to give a legitimacy to the murder. Not saying this is the case, I’m speculating on how the custom may have began. Many times there were practical origins that gradually became the norm and lost the practicality.
