[MarriageFirstLoveLater] Chapter 27.3 — Dinner Treat

Zhong Yanfei raised her glass again to Jian Hang and said, “This afternoon, let’s go through the process of signing the contract.”

Jian Hang was surprised, but her face remained calm. “We at Yinlin Capital will cooperate in full with Ms. Zhong.”

Ordinarily, it took several working days to go through the process of signing a contract. Today’s contract was negotiated, drafted, signed, and sealed1 all in one afternoon.

The provisions on success fee rate, payment time, and milestones to be achieved have been changed, and the revised terms were all beneficial to Yinlin Capital.

This was what Jian Hang fought for, and Zhong Yanfei made every concession.

After receiving the duly sealed project agreement, Jian Hang’s heart finally settled back in her chest.

Zhong Yanfei saw off Jian Hang’s team, then she took a bottle of ice water from the refrigerator and drank half of it in one go.

Today, in front of Jian Hang, she lost completely.

Her phone rang: it was her younger sister calling. She put down the water and answered the call.

“Did you finish signing the contract?” Zhong Yanyue got straight to the point.

Zhong Yanfei said in a low voice, “Hmm.”

She didn’t want to mention Jian Hang at all and didn’t want to hear a word about her. “Let’s not talk about it—how are you preparing for your birthday party?”

Tomorrow was Zhong Yanyue’s birthday, and she threw a party every year. She would invite her friends to come over and they would all go crazy for an evening. The venue for this year’s birthday party has already been set and the preparations were already in place.

“The party is simple. It’s just a small birthday2, just a little decoration is enough. Food and drinks, and even more drinks, are the most important things.”

Zhong Yanyue originally wanted to ask her older sister if she had had any unpleasant moments during her meeting with Jian Hang today, but her older sister clearly didn’t want to talk about Jian Hang, so she could only give up.

Jian Hang and her team came out of Wanyue and got into their cars. Lin Xiao flipped through the pages of the contract.

He was not at all interested in the terms inside it; he was just curious why Zhong Yanfei suddenly gave in and agreed to the changes in the payment rate and schedule.

Lin Xiao glanced at the contract a few times, closed it and handed it back to Jian Hang’s Secretary. “Boss, what kind of tricks did you use to crush Zhong Yanfei into submission?”

He knew both sisters. He liked playing with Zhong Yanyue, but he didn’t really like Zhong Yanfei.

“No tricks,” said Jian Hang.

She was just a fox taking advantage of a tiger’s might.3

The contract was successfully signed, and it was Qin Moling who made the greatest contribution.

Jian Hang decided to treat him to dinner as a token of gratitude.

… …

She left the company on time tonight and arrived home just after dark.

Aunt Geng didn’t expect Jian Hang to come back so early. She was so engrossed in reading something on her phone that it wasn’t until Jian Hang walked into the living room that she regained her senses. Her eyes were red, and she was holding a balled up tissue in her hand, similar to the many other crumpled balls in the wastebasket.

At first glance, it was plain to see that she’d been crying.

Jian Hang asked with concern, “Aunt Geng, what’s wrong?”

“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Aunt Geng turned her face away and quickly wiped her tears. She was deeply embarrassed. She couldn’t tell Jian Hang that when alone at home, she read novels to pass the time, and she cried at the emotional parts. After adjusting her expression, she turned her head and said, “I couldn’t resist when I saw some touching story in the news.”

Jian Hang believed her in full. Occasionally, when she came across touching news, she too also felt emotional.

Aunt Geng quickly exited the novel page, put her phone in her pocket, and said, “What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you now. If you want to eat Western food, I’ll have the chef make it.”

Jian Hang didn’t eat a lot for dinner: she still had to consider her figure. “Aunt Geng, please cook some coarse grain congee for me.”

“Okay, I’ll prepare a few more side dishes for you.”

Aunt Geng didn’t prepare Qin Moling’s dinner; it seemed that he won’t eat dinner tonight at home. Jian Hang didn’t go her room and worked overtime directly at the dining table.

Dinner was ready, and Jian Hang paused from her work.

After dinner, Aunt Geng washed and cut some fruits for her as usual.

Before, Jian Hang always brought the fruits back to her room to eat. Tonight, she sat in the living room watching TV and ate the fruits there.

Aunt Geng went back to her room. Jian Hang was alone in the living room and the only sound came from the TV.

… …

After two TV drama episodes, Qin Moling finally arrived home.

Qin Moling came in and saw Jian Hang sitting on the sofa, which surprised him very much. The master bedroom had a wide-screen TV, so there’s no need to watch TV in the living room.

“Waiting for me?” Intuitively, he guessed that she wouldn’t have stayed down here unless she was waiting for him.

Jian Hang nodded and said, “The contract with Wanyue was signed today.”

Qin Moling knew about this matter. Zhong Yanfei asked one of their common friends to send him a message this afternoon. Not only did she sign the contract, but she also modified some payment terms in favor of Yinlin Capital.

He immediately gave instructions for Lemeng to resume cooperation with Wanyue.

“I heard about it.”

Jian Hang put down the fruit tray and looked at him, “When you have time, I’ll treat you to dinner.”

Qin Moling felt that there was no need for her to treat him. It was only right for him to help her, and he didn’t want her to be so clear about the line between them. But he thought of how she waited for him in the living room all night, and if he refused, she would definitely feel disappointed.

He said, “Tomorrow night, if you’re free, I’ll treat you.”

  1. The text refers to ‘stamp sealed’ contract. I’m not sure if it’s like in Japan where they have personal seals and affix it on documents or it means sealed by a notary. Or maybe both.  ↩︎
  2. Birthdays that round off a decade of living—20th, 30th, 40th etc, are generally the ones celebrated in a grand manner. Other birthdays are considered ‘small’. ↩︎
  3. Fox taking advantage of a tiger’s might. Idiom meaning a person who uses powerful connections to intimidate others. ↩︎
