[MarriageFirstLoveLater] Chapter 9.2 — Pick Her Up

Qin Moling didn’t drink the milk. He put it on the kitchen island when he got home.

The next day, Auntie Geng asked him if he wanted to drink that carton of milk for breakfast.

Qin Moling, who was drinking coffee, said, “Not drinking it.”

Aunt Geng put away the milk, wondering in her heart. He dressed so formally last night when he went out to buy a carton of milk?

Then she heard Qin Moling say, “Auntie Geng, please prepare a box of that brand of milk at home.”

“Okay.” Auntie Geng took a picture of the milk carton with her mobile phone. It was all in English. She had to check what brand it was.

… …

That evening, Qin Moling was called back to his old house by Old Madam Qin to talk about the sports car he gave to Qin Xing.

He didn’t understand; It wasn’t his first time to give Qin Xing a car. What was there to talk about?

He went back home anyway.

Except for not showing up at the blind dates, Qin Moling had never disobeyed his elders.

His mother was here today. He didn’t know if it was a coincidence or if grandma called him and his mother together to discuss some important matter. The biggest event for Grandma right now was his wedding.

After saying ‘hello’, grandma pointed to the sofa next to her and said, “Sit down.” Then grandma started talking to his mother again, “I think this is not bad.”

His mother and grandmother were reading a magazine together, and Qin Moling asked casually, “What’s the magazine?”

Grandma held up the magazine cover to show her grandson, “It’s a wedding magazine! Your mother and I are discussing where to take you and Jian Hang’s wedding photos.”

Shen Jingyun thought to herself, she didn’t want to discuss this at all, but they just had to drag her home to discuss it.

When Qin Moling heard about the wedding photos, he didn’t answer and instead got up to get some water.

Old Madam Qin shouted at his back, “Where are you going? There is tea and coffee on the table, is this not enough for you to drink?”

Qin Moling said calmly, “I want warm water.”

Old Mrs. Qin was helpless, “You child.” She turned to her daughter-in-law and said, “I still have five magazines. Let’s read them and pick carefully.”

Shen Jingyun: “…”

She really didn’t want to pick any.

Qin Moling drank a glass of water in the kitchen before coming out again. The magazine in grandma’s hand has been changed to another one.

“Grandma, didn’t you want to talk about Qin Xing’s car?”

He wanted to leave immediately once they’ve talked about this. He didn’t want to stay in the old house with all this going on.

Old Madam Qin pushed the magazine to her daughter-in-law, “You read it first.”

She didn’t want to talk about sports cars at all; she just wanted to find a reason for him to come back.

But as an elder, you naturally have to justify what you say. “Now that you are married, you can’t just do whatever you want like before. If you give expensive gifts to someone in the future, tell Jian Hang in advance. You are husband and wife.”

Qin Moling really hadn’t realized that he had to tell Jian Hang. He didn’t have this habit and had subconsciously felt that it was unnecessary.

He nodded briefly, indicating that he would pay attention to it in the future.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m going back.”

“Why are you in such a hurry? You’ve already come here, leave after dinner. It’s rare for your mother to have time as well,” Old Madam Qin said. “I have already told Auntie to cook for you two.”

Qin Moling, who had already stood up, sat down again.

It was true that he hasn’t had a meal with his mother for a long time. The last time the family had a meal was when he met Jian Hang’s parents.

Dinner was a light home-cooked meal. Qin Moling’s father was busy and had little time to have meals at home, so there were only the four of them.

Old Master Qin came out of the study just before dinner and did not see Jian Hang. “Xiao Hang is on a business trip?” he asked Qin Moling.

“No. She’s working overtime tonight.” Qin Moling didn’t actually know whether Jian Hang was working overtime or not.

But he said it without any hesitation so Grandpa believed it.

During the meal, Old Madam Qin chatted with her daughter-in-law about the art exhibition. Suddenly the conversation changed direction, “We old people are not interested in new-style art exhibitions and cannot appreciate them properly. Give your tickets to Moling and Jian Hang. Young people like immersive art exhibitions. You take them both to the see it.”

Shen Jingyun tried her best to persuade the old lady, “Mom, you and dad should go and see it. In the past, we had to go abroad to see this immersive art exhibition. Finally, we have an exhibition right at our doorstep. It would be a pity not to go.”

Old Madam Qin still insisted, “If Moling and Jian Hang both say it looks good, it won’t be too late for you to buy us tickets again.”

Shen Jingyun knew that the old lady was looking for a way to let Qin Moling and his wife go on a date, so she couldn’t refute the old lady’s intention, “Alright then.”

The two tickets she had given to the old lady were handed to Qin Moling after the meal.

The art exhibition was on Saturday and Sunday this week, and Shen Jingyun bought tickets for Sunday.

Old Madam Qin told her daughter-in-law, “If you understand art, take these two children there and explain it to them.”

The explanation was secondary—ensuring that Qin Moling and Jian Hang go to the exhibition was the real purpose.

Old Madam Qin was afraid that her grandson would violate the rules, that he’d promise to go but then when he turned his back give the tickets to someone else. Now, she could only rely on her daughter-in-law to oversee this.

Shen Jingyun completely disagreed with the old madam’s approach. Qin Moling and Jian Hang were not children, so there was no need to force them to be together. There was no point in forcing them.

… …

After the meal, they chatted with the two elders some more before leaving.

When mother and son arrived in the yard, Shen Jingyun stretched out her hand and said, “Give me the tickets?”

Qin Moling was startled, not understanding what his mother meant.

Shen Jingyun said bluntly, “I know you don’t want to go. When your grandma asks, I will tell her that you and Jian Hang have gone.”

She heard that something happened to Jian Hang on the day her son and Jian Hang got the certificate, but her son still insisted on getting the certificate—this at least showed that her son was not so opposed to the marriage.

Let them get used to each other slowly.

If family members get involved too much, it would only be counterproductive.

What Shen Jingyun didn’t know was that Qin Moling had already seen this art exhibition abroad.

Qin Moling held the tickets and looked at it again and again, but finally did not give it back to his mother. These tickets were hard to get. Maybe Jian Hang hasn’t seen it yet. She can go see it with her friends then.

“I’ll ask Jian Hang if she wants to go.”

  1. If she declines his invitation then I don’t think she has put any effort in this marriage and communication. Yesterday she didn’t even asked him to come inside but just gave him a carton. Usually a person is more polite than her even to passing strangers 😕

  2. Jian Hang is so busy she’s taking 1 months off from gaming.

Then again this is an in person invitation from your nominal husband and in-laws.
