[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 21.3 — Become His Assistant

At this time in Shanghai, Pei Shixiao also suddenly remembered Luo Zhiqiu’s company.

He didn’t worry about this at first and had originally planned to find a suitable person to help. Later, he was distracted by Cui Peng, and another project was started, and he had to hold several meetings one after another.

Right after he got back from that business trip to California, the scene with Cui Peng happened.

Somehow, with all that has happened, he forgot all about it.

He pinched the bridge of his nose and called his secretary to check on the current situation of Luo Qi’s father’s company.

The secretary asked, “President Pei, do you have any other instructions?”

“Then find out how Luo Qi is doing lately.”

He hasn’t disturbed her during this period. The matter was mostly one-sided and he wanted to give her time to calm down. No phone calls, no messages, no idea what she was doing every day.

Right now, he missed her very much.

… …

The next day was Saturday.

Pei Shixiao made an appointment to talk with someone in the morning and returned to the company in the afternoon. On the way back, his secretary called him and said that Luo Zhiqiu’s company had signed a risk agreement with an investment company because it could not survive otherwise.

“When did they sign it?”

“Just this morning.”

Pei Shixiao blamed himself. If Luo Zhiqiu had not been desperate, he would not have signed a new investment agreement.

The secretary then reported, “Miss Luo has been working normally recently. Jiang Yueru retired early due to health reasons so Miss Luo no longer works as Jiang Yueru’s assistant. Yesterday, she received a new appointment—she’s now Jiang Shenghe’s Assistant.”

Pei Shixiao was startled with this news, “I understand.”

… …

Monday came quickly, and it was Luo Qi’s first day on the job.

After entering the elevator, she pressed the floor for her original office out of habit. When the elevator stopped, she suddenly realized that she was supposed to go to the floor where her new boss was.

She pressed forty-two.

She was not the first to arrive. Xiao Jiang and two other colleagues also came early.

They greeted her with brisk tones.

Secretary Ju told her that on the entire forty-second floor, the most difficult person to get along with was Jiang Shenghe.

Luo Qi was still getting used to the layout of her new office. This was Secretary Ju’s previous office and had a wide view.

After being busy for almost half an hour, Jiang Shenghe came.

There was no time for a regular meeting today. The boss has to attend the opening ceremony for a cooperation project. It would begin at 9:30, and the venue was about five kilometers away from the Yuanwei Building.

At 8:40, Luo Qi went over to remind Jiang Shenghe, “Chief Jiang, it’s time to go.”

Jiang Shenghe stood up, took the suit hanging on the back of the chair, and put it on as he walked.

Luo Qi suddenly thought of his eyeglasses. That night he drove back from Director Jiang’s house, he needed to use his glasses. He was 300 degrees short-sighted and still needed glasses on occasion.

She wondered if Secretary Ju had kept his eyeglasses before.

She could only ask, “Chief Jiang, do you have any extra glasses? I’ll keep a pair ready for you.” Just in case of emergency.

Jiang Shenghe paused slightly, in the middle of fixing his sleeves. This was the first time she cared about him, even if it was only for work.

“Yes.” He turned back and took out an eyeglasses case from the desk drawer. It was his most commonly used pair of gold-rimmed glasses.

Luo Qi took the case, and Jiang Shenghe looked on while she put it into her bag.

Seventh Year of My Secret Love for You translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com

T/N: The risk investment agreement Luo Qi’s dad signed was disadvantageous in the sense that he had to give up shares in his company proportionate to the amount invested. But in addition, there were risk conditions set for future profits. If the company failed to meet those conditions, it would have to give up patents that it owned in favor of the investor—which would really cripple it. It’s a legitimate business deal, they’re not scamming him, but because of the ‘risk’, only someone desperate would sign it.

Jiang Shenghe originally wanted Pei Shixiao to send customers Luo Zhiqui’s way so his company could weather this difficult time, but the idiot forgot, and Lou Zhiqui got forced against the wall.

This seems to be a way of doing business for them—trading favors for projects. Pei Shixiao could send customers to Luo Zhiqui by providing those customers better incentives for other projects with him. Qin Moling was able to send projects abroad to tempt Pei Shixiao by offering those companies benefits from his own company. Jiang Shenghe gave a better profit percentage to He Wancheng for the Suzhou project and in exchange, He Wancheng is now helping Jiang Shenghe with Yuanwei Medical’s business in the South (which the He family largely controls).

Why didn’t Jiang Shenghe just loan Luo Zhiqui the money or do a simple investment without the risk conditions? Because they were trying to hide their tracks, and what random investment firm would just give money to someone who needs it? But also, so that Luo Zhiqui could keep his pride as he was already ‘drowning in favors’.

  1. Yeah…Jiang Shenghe is really considerate in helping his inlaw…but it is also a smart move from the POV of business principle. Giving favor too much without adequate advantage for him is not only saving LQ’s face but also more safe for his own interest, because there will be no risk of suspicion from the authority for doing illegal insider deals..ruining the fair free market competition. I don’t know how strict it will be held in China but it is a serious matter in international scope.

PSX forgot that matter cemented the fact that he doesn’t have his fiancee in his mind that much. She’s not that important for him to fight for anymore. In the past he had kneeled to his parent begging for her and travelled all the way abroad to reach her..but now everything else is more important than her.

  2. Pei Shixiao’s late consideration is worthless, especially when he failed to put the proper thought into it because he was “distracted” by Cui Peng. He even has the gall to excuse his actions as carelessness rather than as complete disregard for his fiance’s family. He needs a reality check soon because he still thinks he hasn’t really done anything wrong at the moment. For Jiang Shenghe, however, it’s very good development for him that Luo Qi is starting to pay attention to his needs and is concerned about them, even if it’s only in a business setting. Some progress is better than none, lol.

As for the translator’s explanations at the end, they’re very much appreciated! It’s good to have a better understanding of the business side of things and how they work for both parties.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
