[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 17.1 — Help Him With His Clothes

Jiang Yueru’s unconditional support for her nephew was just a matter of retiring a few months earlier than originally intended, “I will resign from the Board of Directors after the 11th.

“But how do you plan to arrange matters for Secretary Ju?” she asked in concern.

“I’ll give her a promotion and a raise.”

As the head of a department, she could manage her time more freely. She didn’t have to travel with the boss everywhere, and she could take care of her family more. Secretary Ju would not refuse such an opportunity.

Before hanging up the phone, Jiang Yueru couldn’t help but warn, “Shenghe, Auntie will tell you something you won’t like to hear. No one can say how weighty Pei Shixiao’s mistake was in Luo Qi’s heart and whether they will get back together. You have to be fully prepared.”

Jiang Shenghe reassured his aunt, his voice firm, “It’s impossible for them to get back together—he doesn’t have this chance.”

… …

Back at his villa, Jiang Shenghe took a cigarette and smoked it in the yard.

The smoke was slowly, patiently, exhaled into small smoke rings.

He texted Lu Baisheng: [She broke up.]

It was only the one mention of ‘she’ and Lu Baisheng immediately knew who it was without needing to ask her name. He called Jiang Shenghe back.

“What have you been doing behind my back?” he asked with a smile.

Jiang Shenghe also smiled, “If I said I didn’t do anything, would you believe it?”

Lu Baisheng said, “It’s not a question of believing it or not. After six years of suffering, she was now about to get married, so no matter what you were pushed to do, I won’t even think it’s strange.”

Jiang Shenghe said, “It was Luo Qi who broke up with him. If it was me, I wouldn’t wait until today to break them up.”

“That’s true,” Lu Baisheng never doubted Jiang Shenghe’s words.

He felt sorry for Luo Qi but also happy for his friend.

He echoed that sentence he said in June, “Didn’t you say you didn’t want to see her when she’s full of children and grandchildren?”

Jiang Shenghe: “… that was then, this is now.”

If it was their children—his and Luo Qi’s—of course it was different.

They chatted a few words more before hanging up the phone.

Jiang Shenghe opened WeChat, pinned Luo Qi’s chat box to the top, and put the phone on the table. He needed to calm down, sort out some things first. He must wait for his aunt to retire before Luo Qi could be transferred. It would take a certain amount of time to go through the process—at least a month.

During this month, there was no suitable reason for Luo Qi to stay by his side all the time.

When the cigarette burned out, he pressed the cigarette butt in the ashtray.

He has thought of a suitable person: the partner in the Suzhou project, He Wancheng.

… …

The next morning, Jiang Shenghe called his mother.

When Liang Zhen heard that her youngest son was coming back for dinner, the stone that had been in her heart for many days fell. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, Jiang Shenghe deliberately didn’t come back home, pissing off his old man so much that he didn’t even eat any mooncake.

She had been really worried that her youngest son would not come home anymore in the future, “I’ll ask the auntie to prepare anything you want to eat in advance, you just need to say.”

“Home-cooked food is fine,” Jiang Shenghe was busy and didn’t have time to think about such trivial things as what to eat.

There was a few seconds of silence on the phone.

“Shenghe, call your dad when you have time.”

Jiang Shenghe’s voice suddenly became indistinct, “I haven’t been free recently.”

Liang Zhen had a headache about the relationship between this father and son, each was more stubborn than the other, “Alright, then you are busy, mom will say goodbye first.”

Getting off work in the evening, Jiang Shenghe was dutifully reminded by his secretary about his plans, so when left the company, he went back to the family home to have dinner with his mother.

Liang Zhen had no classes this afternoon, but she didn’t know how to cook so she could only do her best to help out in the kitchen.

The sky had only just turned dark when Jiang Shenghe arrived.

The table was full of his favorite dishes. This was the first meal he has eaten at home this year. At the huge dining table covered with carefully prepared dishes, there was only him and his mother; it looked lopsided.

Liang Zhen took a pair of serving chopsticks to pick up food for her son.

“How is your aunt?”

“She’s good.”

“There’s been a lot going on at school recently. I’ll go see your aunt in a few days.”

When her son suddenly said he was coming for dinner, she was not sure what to expect.

After eating quietly for a few minutes, Liang Zhen directly asked, “Do you have something to tell mom?” She didn’t like to beat around the bush; it made her feel awkward.

Jiang Shenghe looked up, “It’s okay. I just came to have a meal with you.”

“Then eat more,” Liang Zhen added food to her son’s plate. The atmosphere was rare and warm, and she didn’t mention a word about the unpleasant things that happened during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

“Mom,” Jiang Shenghe remembered something, “Did my aunt tell you that I would agree to a blind date after mid-December?”

Liang Zhen nodded, “Yes. Your aunt’s phone call came at a really good time that day. She told us that you were willing to go on a blind date and managed to suppress your father’s anger.”

“I take it back.”

“…”

Liang Zhen’s chopsticks holding the vegetables paused in the air. She carefully put the vegetables on the plate in front of her son.

“You have changed your mind?” She said in a calmer tone.

“I have someone I’ve liked for six years.”

“Then why didn’t you say so?” Liang Zhen was truly delighted. No matter what, at least her son’s psychology and physiology were normal, “Did you two get together when you were abroad?

Jiang Shenghe was calm. “We didn’t get together. She had a boyfriend.”

The smile on Liang Zhen’s face froze. She never would have thought that her youngest son, who could have everything and anything he wanted from life, would be trapped by unattainable love.

After six years bearing love in silence, her son must be feeling very bitter in his heart.

As for Luo Qi’s situation, Jiang Shenghe didn’t mention it any more. Saying too much would only be counterproductive. His mother would not understand his decisions, and Luo Qi’s family situation would definitely not pass his father’s standards.

As to whether his father would agree to him and Luo Qi, Jiang Shenghe didn’t care at all. No one could dictate on what he wanted to do.

  1. Nuh the fact that everyone important in his life already knows about MC is willldddddd. This man has been waiting for that ex to make a mistake 😂😂 that’s craZyyy.

  2. It’s good that he knows to not rush any serious developments between them, either in work or in personal life. I especially like that he’s confident in making sure he’ll never give Pei Shixiao a chance to make up with Luo Qi, lol.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
