Translator’s Notes:

This story is so full of cliche and tropes but it IT IS SO FRICKIN’ FUN! The author is obviously poking fun at the genre so even as all the tropes are happening around her, Gou An—the awakened vicious female supporting character—is side-eyeing everything.

Gou An is chaotic. She is willful, arrogant, and unapologetic about it. But I love her so much. She’s no white lotus and definitely no green tea bitch—no, she wouldn’t spend time scheming behind your back, she’d directly slap you upfront and stomp on you for good measure while you’re still being pitiful on the ground.

And while the overall tone is comedic and every other scene is hilarious, the author writes the characters’ emotions in a way that really punches the readers’ guts. Regrets, letting go, moving on, knowing what you lost, grabbing on so you don’t lose what’s important, being unwilling, choosing to be satisfied with what you have—everyone grows in this story.

And the author really knows how to give readers that feeling of satisfaction. Everyone ‘gets what they deserve’ and the comeuppance doesn’t wait until a hundred chapters later. There’s no literal face-slapping but the emotional catharsis feels so much better.

To be laughing out loud one moment, and sniffling into tissues the next, I think this story is a gem amidst the hundred other stories like it.
