When An Rugu was practicing the out-of-body experience, she realized that the golden light on her spirit was getting brighter and brighter.
In the past, it was similar to a 1000-kilowatt light bulb, but now it was a 2000-kilowatt light bulb.
Having been able to collect so much wish power in such a short period of time, she had sat in meditation and significantly advanced in her cultivation, and the qi in her meridians became more and more condensed.
She chanted the Golden Light Mantra and summoned golden flying swords. Previously, she could summon a maximum of twenty, but now she could summon fifty swords at once.
The golden light shone brightly, emitting an intimidating aura that scared away evil spirits.
Ordinary practitioners could not cultivate through merit and prayers directly, but she could, because her physique was special.
She has received so much wish power these past days, the Underworld must have received even more, and the number of people who believe in the Lord of the Underworld would also increase.
Was this the intention of the King of Hell?
She thought about it for a long time but could not come to a realization, so she simply wrote a letter according to the method in the Yin Envoy Rulebook, lit it on fire, and burned it to ashes.
This was the method of delivering memorials to the Lord of the Underworld according to the Yin Envoy Rulebook.
She didn’t like hiding her feelings in her heart; she wanted to make them clear.
…………
In the huge palace with a golden roof and red doors, flickering candlelight illuminated the main hall that was decorated all in antiques. The sandalwood incense burned before the raised platform, creating a lingering smokey atmosphere.
At the top of the dais was a red desk, behind which sat a man wearing a black robe with gold trim on the cuffs, but his face could not be seen clearly.
The White Impermanence narrowed his eyes. The King of Hell had cast a spell on him long ago. He has been by his side for so long, but he still didn’t know what he looked like.
But just thinking about it, he must look extremely majestic, ferocious, and terrifying.
He seemed to have thought of something, and his curiosity was burning. Knowing that the King of Hell had a good temper, he boldly asked, “Lord Yan, is it because of incense, prayers, merit, and faith that you allowed that mortal to livestream about the Underworld?”
In the legends of the neighboring island country1, many gods disappear because they were forgotten by believers, but their country was different.
Gods and ghosts like them rarely disappeared due to lack of believers and did not rely much on believers.
These things were simply icing on the cake for them.
But after all, who didn’t want to eat incense and have a full stomach?
“That’s not entirely true.”
The Lord of the Underworld took his brush and pondered for a moment before writing the word ‘Catastrophe.’ on the memorial.
He then addressed the White Impermanence, “A catastrophe is imminent. The Underworld and the human world are deeply entangled, and it’s difficult for the two to remain isolated. It’s not like the yao realm, where they can simply close their doors. I can’t intervene directly in the human world, so I can only find a proxy to act on my behalf. As envoy, she is the best choice.
“I have to let her have these things and grow up quickly so that she can cope with the catastrophe.”
It was not the first time that the White Impermanence heard the word ‘catastrophe’ from the King of Hell’s mouth, yet he was still deeply moved.
No matter how powerful the users of evil techniques in the world were, could they be more powerful than gods like the Lord of the Underworld?
Even Zhang Tianshi, the most powerful Daoist master in the world, was powerless against real gods.
“If the gods could directly intervene in the human world, there would be no such evil and devious things.”
When the Lord of the Underworld heard his words, he chuckled and wrote a word on the paper next to him: “… What do you think this word is?”
The White Impermanence read out the word ‘Youdu’ saying, “Isn’t this another name for Fengdu? How dare a group of evildoers use the name of Youdu to smear the image of our Underworld? This is truly outrageous.”
As a yin envoy who collected souls, he often went to the human world and has heard about the notorious evil cultivation organization Youdu from Zhang Tianshi, but he never took it seriously.
After all, they were just ordinary humans, subject to aging, illness, and death. There was nothing extraordinary about them. If it weren’t for the fact that he couldn’t violate the Yin Envoy Rulebook and attack these evil cultivators without cause, he would have wanted to lure them back to the Underworld and have the Black Impermanence damn them.
As the White Impermanence was saying this, he was stunned for a moment—
How could an evil human cultivation organization be able to catch the attention of the King of Hell?
“Lord Yan, is there something special about this organization?” he couldn’t help but ponder.
A faint voice like smoke came to his ears, “Gods cannot directly interfere in the human world, but they can look for envoys, just like I can.”
The White Impermanence’ pupils shrank slightly. He took a deep breath and suddenly understood. He felt himself stuttering for the first time. He had never been so shocked before, “Could it be…”
This Youdu organization was not just made up of evil human cultivators, there were also other gods behind it…
Did some god select someone to join this organization, or were they themselves reincarnated?
The name Youdu— Was it possible that the gods of the Underworld were involved?
His pale face grew paler, and he dared not think any further. A little ghost like him dared not intervene in the dispute between the gods.
The King of Hell ignored him, the tip of his brush touching the memorial before him, and he slowly wrote, ‘I followed the will of Heaven and gave you this great path to the sky.’
It was best if she did not disappoint expectations.
When the White Impermanence heard this secret, he felt that he was going to die at any time. He wished he could lose his memory on the spot, which would be better than being involved in this tragedy.
He pretended to be calm and said, “Lord Yan, I have to be busy now. By the way, she has already done her first livestream.
“Those so-called hackers from our Underworld hacked into their platform and added some technique, so that viewers can only watch the video in the livestream channel but cannot capture any images. This can maximize the popularity of the livestream channel and avoid it being overwhelmed.
“But the Underworld can still watch all her videos. When you are not so busy, please take some time to watch it.”
“I understand,” the King of Hell said calmly. “Go now.”

T/N: Sorry for the missed posts. I’ve got an unfortunate cough + cold + fever situation going on and I’ve been mostly asleep these past couple of days.
But also, ARGHHHH on this chapter! The author is being purposely vague because Foreshadowing but also, the Chinese language often omits pronouns and you can just infer who is being referred to from context—and the context here is really fricking vague so… Anyway, I did the best I could. Let’s just all be mystified together 🤗
… …
I’ve done an extensive t/n about Youdo and Fengdu here, in case you need a refresher.
In Chinese, the King of Hell and Lord of the Underworld is King Yan or Yanlou Wang. It gets confusing because the prototype is the Hindu god Yama but he has long since gotten his own attributes as an East Asian deity (in Japanese he is called Enma). Anyway, since this is a c-novel, we’ll be using Lord/King Yan—I’ve gone back and changed the previous chapters since I only just realized I’ve been calling him King Yama.
Just a reminder, ‘Hell’ here is not the Western/Christian concept of hell. It’s better to just think of it as the place where souls go and get processed for reincarnation. There is a place where evil souls get tortured and punished but it’s just a small portion of the Underworld.
… …
In Japanese belief system, gods lose their powers and ‘die’ when they lose their believers. Have you tried Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume’s Book of Friends)? It comes in manga and anime. I heartily recommend it. It’s a good—sometimes scary—peek at deities and the supernatural according to Japanese beliefs. And the art style is very pretty.
