A few days after Luo Qi’s birthday, the National Day holidays1 arrived.
Qin Moling was interested in the strawberries grown in Jiang Shenghe’s planting equipment. During the long vacation, he brought Jian Hang over to pick them but under the pretext of visiting Doudou and Mimi.
Jiang Shenghe choked him, “You really know how to pick the time. They’re both staying at my mom’s place during the holidays. You know this.”
“Be more understanding.” Qin Moling picked some strawberries and put them in the basket. “Pregnancy makes a woman stupid for three years2. Although I’m not stupid, I’m not very smart now after being with her every day.”
Jiang Shenghe was speechless.
“Now that you’re a father, there’s no need to show off all day long.”
Jian Hang was more than three months pregnant and was finally able to tell people about it. As a result, Qin Moling kept talking about himself becoming a father.
Jiang Shenghe saw him picking all the strawberries that were even slightly red. “Those are so sour, how can you bear to eat them?”
“Jian Hang just wants to eat sour things now.”
“…”
The strawberries looked average and tasted average, but they win in one criteria: they were pure organic-grown and chemical-free.
The basket was not big, and Qin Moling filled about half of it. Jiang Shenghe looked at the planting equipment and could no longer see any red strawberries.
Under a wide-brim parasol in the yard, Luo Qi and Jian Hang were drinking afternoon tea, with snacks all over the table.
Luo Qi replied to her husband who had sent her a message. When she looked up to talk, Jian Hang had already fallen asleep in her chair. She had heard Jian Hang say that after she became pregnant, she was so sleepy everyday that she almost couldn’t recognize her mother; she even wanted to sleep even during meetings.
Worried that Jian Hang might catch a cold, she went back to the house to get a blanket.
Qin Moling washed the strawberries and wanted to give them to Jian Hang, but she fell asleep unexpectedly. He took off his coat and covered her with it. Her head was tilted to one side, and she looked uncomfortable.
He moved a chair and sat down beside her, putting his hand under her head to use as a pillow.
Jian Hang opened her eyes dazedly and didn’t see the person in front of her clearly. However, by his scent, she knew it was Qin Moling.
“Husband.”
“Go to sleep. I’ll watch over you.”
She turned over to face him and continued to sleep comfortably on his palm.
Luo Qi brought out a thick woolen blanket, and Jiang Shenghe put away the parasol.
Covered with a wool blanket and with the autumn sun shining on her, Jian Hang had a good sleep.
Jiang Shenghe checked every strawberry plant in the planting equipment and found two that Qin Moling had missed. He took Luo Qi into the villa, washed the two strawberries, and gave them to Luo Qi, asking her, “Are you sleepy?”
“I’m not sleepy at all.” She emphasized, “I’m really not sleepy.”
Jiang Shenghe laughed, “That’s not what I meant. I just wanted to ask if you want to take a nap.”
Luo Qi shook her head and leaned into his arms.
She took the initiative to ask him, “Have you thought about how many children you want?”
“It’s up to you. Any number is fine. I’ll like them all.”
“Once our relationship is public, let’s stop using condoms.”
Jiang Shenghe didn’t ask when they would make it public; he left it up to her to decide.
… …
The cocktail party for Yuanwei’s 30th anniversary was scheduled for October 9th. Senior executives of all subsidiaries received invitations to the event, and Yuanwei’s important partners and major customers were also invited to attend.
Linghong received two invitations. Cui Ran called her husband to ask who should attend it.
Her husband was abroad, and there was a project that required his signature, so he couldn’t get away.
“Please let President Jiang know for me the importance of this project. I will visit to congratulate him another day when time permits it.”
Cui Ran originally wanted to bring the company’s Vice President over, but when she got off work, her cousin came to her and begged, “Older Sister, take me with you.”
Her reason for wanting to go to the cocktail party was mainly to see who Jiang Shenghe’s wife was and, of course, to see Luo Qi in a miserable state.
Cui Peng assured her cousin, “I’ll never leave your side. Do you really think I’m so clueless as to act crazy at a party of this importance?”
She spoke frankly, “I don’t like any of the guys pursuing me. I also want to find a better boyfriend. These days, I pretty much go back and forth between home and work. I rarely even go out shopping. I just want to prove to you that I’m not that bad and what happened before was just a momentary lapse of judgment on my part.”
Cui Ran felt soft-hearted, and considering that her cousin had turned over a new leaf, performed well, and worked diligently this year, she decided to take her.
She reminded her again and again, “Do you know whose event this is?”
“How could I not know?” Cui Peng laughed. “Older Sister, do you think I dare to provoke him? Haven’t I been keeping my tail between my legs and behaving well this whole year?”
… …
Cui Peng really didn’t dare to provoke Jiang Shenghe.
In truth, she hasn’t had a happy year, and she felt very upset in her heart. Only when Luo Qi had a bad life as well and ended up in a worse situation than her could she feel relieved and feel completely balanced.
When Pei Shixiao went to Linghong that day a few months ago, he not only helped Luo Qi clear up matters, but also told his mother that he was going to solve Cui Peng’s problem. As a result, his mother thought that she had contacted Pei Shixiao again.
The next day, Li Jin went to Cui Peng’s parents and asked them how they raised her.
Her parents were confused and didn’t know what was going on, so they called her back home.
She explained to Li Jin that it was Luo Qi who called Pei Shixiao, not her.
Li Jin smiled, looking at her with contempt in her eyes, “What a lying vixen. At this time, you are still pushing it onto Luo Qi? Luo Qi will never take the initiative to call Pei Shixiao in eight lifetimes.”
“If you don’t believe me, you can check—” Pei Shixiao’s call records.
Li Jin interrupted her mid-sentence, “I don’t have time for your lies. I told you the first time I met you that I’m not a man and I won’t fall for your tricks. Do you have any shame at all?”
After hearing Li Jin’s harsh words, Cui Peng’s father stood up excitedly and said, “This is too much! I’ve been putting up with you!”
Li Jin had brought a few people with her and was not afraid at all. “Let me show you what your good daughter has done.”
Her parents watched the video of her and Pei Shixiao, then saw Luo Xing rushing over to beat up Pei Shixiao.
“The person being beaten in the video is my son. He has a fiancée, and the one beating him is his fiancée’s younger brother. My son is a worthless person, and your daughter is not much better. She knew he was about to get married, but she has no sense of shame.
“Unless as a last resort, I will not release this video. I’m embarrassed myself. It’s a pity that the video only captured this part, and you can’t see the more exciting parts.”
It was on that day that Cui Peng’s parents learned the reason why she sold her house. Li Jin came prepared and had already found out everything about her being Luo Qi’s creditor.
Her parents were so angry that they didn’t allow her to live alone in the apartment anymore and asked her to move back home.
If she didn’t blame Luo Qi for these things, then how could she get rid of her hatred?
In order to gain her cousin’s trust, she devoted herself to work this year, doing nothing else except for eating and sleeping. Her parents loved her and prepared delicious dishes for her in different ways every day.
Her cousin also comforted her: what should be let go should be let go. Pei Shixiao was not faring any better than her. He lost his girlfriend of many years; Dongbo Medical was acquired by Jiang Shenghe through trickery; his father and mother are divorced; and the subsequent mess in the company still had to be cleaned up by him.
Pei Shixiao may hope that Luo Qi lived a good life, but she didn’t.
So how could she turn the page and move on?
Now that Jiang Shenghe was backing Luo Qi, she could do nothing to Luo Qi. She was just waiting for the day when Luo Qi was discovered by Jiang Shenghe’s wife.
It wasn’t that she didn’t report it, but that it wasn’t time yet.
… …
On the 9th, Cui Peng and her cousin flew to Beijing and arrived at the resort before the evening festivities. Yuanwei had booked the entire resort to celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary.
After checking in and putting their luggage in their rooms, Cui Peng accompanied her cousin for a walk by the lake.
The lakeside was particularly lively on this unexpectedly sunny day, and there was even a barbecue buffet.
She met a lot of people along the way, but none of them looked familiar to her. Occasionally, her cousin would say hello to an acquaintance.
Cui Peng suddenly stopped; she saw the woman she hated the most in this world besides Luo Qi.
“Know her?” Cui Ran followed her gaze and saw a charming and beautiful girl.
“Luo Yu,” she said with gritted teeth.
Cui Ran had only heard of Luo Yu from her cousin. She told her it was Luo Yu who had come to the front of her house and filmed the video. Who wouldn’t want a cousin who was willing to catch her cousin’s fiance in an affair and who always had her back?
“Who’s that man next to her?”
Cui Peng asked the question but felt it was nonsense. How could her cousin know everyone in this party?
But, as it turned out, Cui Ran actually knew this person. He was very active in the Shanghai circle. “He Xu. He Wancheng’s nephew.”
Cui Peng was unwilling. She didn’t want to admit it from the bottom of her heart. “Could you have misrecoognized the person?” How could Luo Yu be with He Wancheng’s nephew!
“I can’t be wrong. He’s a friend of your brother-in-law’s friend. We’ve had dinner together before.”
“Is he so superficial? Luo Yu has no ability at all, she’s just an ordinary employee. What does he even like about her?”
“…” This really left Cui Ran speechless.

- National Day is a public holiday that commemorates the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. It is celebrated on October 1 but the next 6 days are also declared holidays, giving people a Golden Week holiday. ↩︎
- 1 pregnancy makes a woman stupid for 3 years. It’s one of those folk sayings; no real scientific or medical basis. Qin Moling wasn’t really making fun of his wife; he was boasting to Jiang Shenghe that yeah his wife is pregnant and he’s a dad now 😂 ↩︎
