[MythicalBeastCafeteria] Chapter 2.3 — Do You Not Want To Stick To Me?

Chancellor Wen gasped. It was so cold. Perhaps because of his position, he somehow felt that he was bound by more water threads than others. The liquid lines climbed upward, entangling him like a spiderweb. A sticky sensation gradually spread across his limbs, as if something strange was rubbing against him.

Zhang Jing was filled with regret. He hadn’t expected such a powerful supernatural creature to exist at Jiangcheng Aeronautics University. He should have brought more elite personnel with him. Now, not only was he risking his own life, but also the lives of so many ordinary people, which made him feel extremely guilty.

Amidst everyone’s panic, Luo Huai’an suddenly reached down and grabbed the water threads at her feet, breaking the supernatural creature’s defense, and then hammered it with her fist hard.

A sudden voice came from the empty air, “Ah! It hurts!”

As soon as the words fell, a bizarre-looking creature appeared before them. It resembled a carp, its entire body light blue with a pair of transparent wings and black markings all over its body. It looked incredibly beautiful, with a somewhat strange aesthetic.

Then, like falling dominoes, fish-shaped creatures gradually appeared at everyone’s feet.

Only then did Chancellor Wen realize that he was entangled not only with water lines but also with bizarre fish-shaped creatures. While others had only one, he had four of them against him. Their scales clung tightly to him, sending a bone-chilling cold that nearly stifled his breath.

The fish-shaped creatures angrily scolded Luo Huai’an, “You bad woman! Why did you hit my brother!“

“Why did you hit my son!”

Luo Huai’an raised her foot and kicked the fish at her feet aside, saying in a calm tone, “Who asked him to bother me first? I didn’t do it on purpose. I was just defending myself.”

The creature she kicked away collapsed to the ground, rubbing the big bump on his head, and said sadly, “I just wanted to play with you, why did you hit me?”

When the fish-shaped creatures saw her getting violent, they surrounded her and tried to knock Luo Hua’ian away, rushing towards her like cannonballs.

… …

A minute later, they have all collapsed to the ground, their faces bruised and swollen from being beaten, and burst into tears, “Dad, this person is bullying us!”

“How can this bad woman be so strong? She hit me so hard, I think she’s going to kill me.”

The leader of the fish creatures, Big Fish, was furious and said through gritted teeth, “Weak human, you better apologize to us quickly, or I will not forgive you!”

Luo Huai’an was a little confused. This was a porcelain scam1, right? “It was obviously you who provoked me first. I didn’t even touch you.”

Big Fish, filled with indignation, flapped his wings and charged forward. With his strength, this strike was enough to pierce through stone. In the modern era of spiritual resurgence, he had long been awake. In ancient times, he was merely a follower of the legendary beasts. But now, none of the legendary beasts have awakened. With the tiger absent, the monkey reigned supreme. Ordinary supernatural creatures were no match for his power, let alone ordinary humans.

He was very proud in his heart, “Foolish human, you are not one of those legendary beasts who could scare me. You are destined to pay the price for your ignorance.”

Three seconds later, Big Fish and his offsprings have fallen to the ground together, in exactly the same postures.

Big Fish was extremely ashamed. The image of Luo Huai’an’s momentum breaking through his water vapor defense as if it was nothing was still vivid in his mind, making him feel as if he had returned to the ancient times when legendary beasts roamed everywhere. He began to tremble in his bones.

He had no power to resist Luo Huai’an and couldn’t help feeling ashamed for how he underestimated the enemy before. It turned out that there were such powerful beings in modern times!

Seeing that her powerful husband was also defeated, the wife couldn’t help but frown and feel anxious, not knowing what to do.

The people around were watching the whole thing, their jaws dropping in amazement. They thought they would die here today, but unexpectedly, this girl who strayed in actually saved them all and made these fish-shaped creatures surrender.

They all cast their admiring gazes. Was this a powerful master? Luo Huai’an’s image gradually became taller in their eyes.

Seeing that the situation had stabilized, Zhang Jing expressed his gratitude to Luo Huai’an. “Thank you so much. If it weren’t for you, we might not be able to go back alive today.”

Luo Huai’an waved her hand, not taking these trivial matters to heart, and said calmly, “You don’t have to thank me, I just did it by chance. These supernatural creatures are not very strong. You will naturally be able to subdue them after you escape.”

Big Fish was very dissatisfied when he heard Zhang Jing’s words. He felt that he had become an unforgivable villain in the words of the human, but he was completely wronged in this matter. “What do you mean you can’t go back alive? We wouldn’t have harmed your life.”

Zhang Jing frowned and said, “You trapped us for no reason and now you say you wouldn’t have harmed our lives. That’s really nonsense. Just wait to go to jail.”

When the fish creatures heard they were going to jail, they were terrified. “What did you say? Jail? I don’t want to go to jail. I just wanted to play with you. I’m so wronged.”

“I didn’t mean to harm you, it’s only that the water is so cold and your bodies are warm, like a hot spring.”

“I often see people saying they want to ‘stick’ to someone online, and I thought it was a way of expressing affection, so I wanted to stick with you, too.”

Everyone: “…”

Those people on the Internet meant sticking to pretty humans— who wanted to stick to a bunch of fishy creatures like you??

When Big Fish heard that he was going to go to jail, he wanted to escape immediately, but Luo Huai’an was there, so Big Fish had to give up the idea.

Zhang Jing said, “You have committed too many crimes. In addition to harming human beings, you also illegally entered the school.”

Big Fish was very dissatisfied and tried to defend himself. “It was your school that asked us to come here. We did not enter illegally.”

When the school leaders heard his words, they were very confused and looked at each other. “When did our school invite you to come?”

“Our Eighth Cafeteria was built beautifully, but you turned it into a haunted house. We just want you to leave quickly!”

Big Fish pointed at Chancellor Wen and said, “He invited us here!”

Chancellor Wen: “???”

Other leaders: “???”

Mythical Beast Cafeteria translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com

T/N: This story is brimming with mythical creatures—small ones, big ones, spiritual ones, divine ones.

Most of these creatures are grouped under Chinese terms that have no appropriate English equivalent so we’ll just blanket call them ‘supernatural creatures/beings/beasts’. I don’t like the term ‘demons’ or ‘monsters’ because those have negative connotations in English.

If they get more powerful—like the Pixiu—then they get elevated to ‘legendary beast’. It seems weird to call them ‘mythical beast’ when, in story, they are referring to themselves or their friends and aren’t actually ‘mythical’ anymore. They’re more like dinosaurs: legendary beasts that factually existed but modern humans no longer see.

As for Big Fish — his surname is actually ‘Yu’. But since it also means ‘fish’, I just went with Fish. The jokes play better that way.

Fish or ‘Yu’ is considered auspicious btw, because it is a homophone for ‘abundance’ or ‘surplus’.

  1. Porcelain scam. Someone carrying a porcelain would deliberately bump into you. They would drop the porcelain, breaking it, then they would demand compensation. ↩︎
