[MarriageFirstLoveLater] Chapter 53.1 — Hug

This was the first time that Qin Moling received a message asking him not to disturb someone. No one has ever replied to him like this, whether in work or in private.

But the person who sent the message was Jian Hang, and somehow he could still accept it.

He subconsciously looked at his watch. It was just past 1:30. She must have arrived at the meeting early.

“What’s the matter?” Qin Moling put down his phone and asked.

Zhong Yanyue showed him the contract and said, “The Second Division has negotiated with the spokesperson. Here is the draft contract. Please take a look.” If Qin Moling had no objection, they could set up the meeting and then go through the signing process.

At the video conference of the Second Division that day, after Qin Moling approved her proposal, she contacted Tan Moxing’s agency team as quickly as possible, even asked acquaintances for help in fast-tracking the process, and the negotiations went smoothly.

She was sincere and Tan Moxing’s agent was straightforward, so the collaboration was a perfect match.

Qin Moling flipped to the second page of the contract, only looking at the key clauses such as the endorsement fee and the other party’s responsibilities and obligations.

Jian Hang had also taken a fancy to Tan Moxing as spokesperson. However, he only knew about this because she was her husband. At that time, she had not yet joined Lemeng.

Looking at things as the boss of Lemeng, Zhong Yanyue had formally proposed the idea and quickly reached an agreement with Tan Moxing’s team. From a profit perspective, Tan Moxing’s endorsement of the Second Division’s products would bring in more substantial profits than the Fourth Division’s.

Qin Moling read through a few clauses that concerned him and found no problems. He handed the contract to Zhong Yanyue and said, “Have the legal department issue the formal contract, and you can submit it for signing directly. Remind me when the time comes.”

The target revenue of the Second Division this year was to break through the 6 billion mark. After being untied from the Fourth Division’s products, this task would not be difficult to accomplish.

Zhong Yanyue did not report on the follow-up matters regarding the unbinding of Fourth Division products. Qin Moling never worried about the specific operations; he only looked at the results.

Vice President Wu was different from Zhong Yanyue. Zhong Yanyue was a little reserved when she came to Qin Moling’s office, but he was much more casual. He directly dragged the ashtray on Qin Moling’s desk in front of him, lit a cigarette, put the lighter on the cigarette box, and pushed it to Qin Moling.

He leaned back in his chair and exhaled smoke. “Isn’t cutting the Fourth Division’s operational expenses a bit too harsh?”

“When did you become so concerned about the Fourth Division?” Qin Moling looked up from his work report. “If Jian Hang wasn’t the GM of the Fourth Division, would you still think the cuts are drastic?”

Vice President Wu had to admit that he felt the cut was too harsh because of Jian Hang.

“Without funds, nothing can be done.” He was not clear about the relationship status of Qin Moling and Jian Hang, and his understanding of their marriage was that Qin Moling was reluctant to get the marriage certificate.

He said bluntly, “Are you trying to intimidate her?

“You’re being too serious about this. Don’t you two have no feelings for each other? Your uncle and I think so, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“I give in to her in everything at home. Is there any need to intimidate her at work?” Qin Moling closed the report and put it aside. “Whether she is the GM of the Fourth Division or not, these expenses must be cut. It has nothing to do with her.”

Vice President Wu raised his chin towards the cigarette and said, “Want to have one?”

“No.” Qin Moling pushed the cigarette to him.

Vice President Wu tapped his cigarette, and a little ash fell outside the ashtray. He quickly wiped it away with a wet tissue. Qin Moling was a mysophobe and couldn’t stand seeing cigarette ash on the table.

Now he also has an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

“You gave Jian Hang the authority to raise funds, and then what, the Fourth Division will pay it back themselves?”

Qin Moling asked in return, “Who else would pay it back?”

Vice President Wu balled up the tissue. That was correct, of course. If the company would end up paying it back themselves, then they should just give the money to the Fourth Division directly, without having to go through the unnecessary process of asking the Fourth Division to go to the bank for a loan.

But the problem was— “Then they would have to pay it back using their year-end revenue. The Fourth Division’s revenue will drop all at once. Won’t she get blamed then?”

Qin Moling said calmly, “She is the GM of the Fourth Division—that is her business to worry about.”

He realized something, “Did Third Uncle ask you to be a lobbyist?”

Vice President Wu couldn’t hide it, so he told the truth, “I’m not trying to be a lobbyist. What Chairman Qin means is, don’t be too harsh on the Fourth Division, give Jian Hang some time to adapt, and don’t just suddenly cut their operating costs in half. How can anyone revitalize the market without any money?”

Qin Moling asked again, “If the current GM of the Fourth Department wasn’t Jian Hang, would you still intercede?”

Vice President Wu suddenly fell silent.

Qin Moling said, “I have a clear idea on which rules can be broken by Jian Hang and which cannot.”

He pushed him to leave, “Stop wasting your breath.”

Vice President Wu left, and Qin Moling checked his watch again, wondering if Jian Hang’s meeting had gone smoothly. He knew that the people in the Fourth Division were difficult to manage, and he knew she needed experience, but he couldn’t bear to see her suffer.

… …

At the same time, in the Fourth Division conference room, the meeting was still going on.

Jian Hang had the sales data of the Four Division in her hands. She was best at data analysis. Even her former boss Pang Linbin said that her various analysis tables and data comparisons were clear at a glance, and her analysis was always to the point.

“Sales are better than I expected, pretty good,” she said.

Everyone: “…”

They didn’t know if Jian Hang was being sarcastic or if she really didn’t understand sales.

This volume of sales was far surpassed by the other three divisions.

Before anyone could say anything, Jian Hang finished her words, saying, “Next month’s sales will be terrible.”

“…” No one answered. Because their products would be unbundled from the Second Division’s products, it was unclear how much their sales would decline.

Zheng Yanshu didn’t bother to open his meeting notebook since he entered the meeting room. He didn’t bring his laptop to the meeting either and only came with his own hands.

Zhou Yi was in the same situation as him, but he was still a bit better than Zhou Yi. At least he didn’t play with his phone. Zhou Yi just kept looking down at his phone with an arrogant tilt to his head.

Jian Hang ignored them and continued with the meeting.

It took two years to deal with Lin Xiao. She didn’t need that long to deal with these two.

“From now on, we’ll have one regular meeting on Mondays and another on Fridays. At the next regular meeting, Director Zhou will present the advertising and marketing plan for the second half of the year.”

Although Zhou Yi was playing with his phone, he was also listening a little.

He said indifferently, “The plans have all been deemed unworkable. It’s useless to present them.”

Jian Hang continued, “Today is Monday. You still have four days. If you can’t complete a viable business plan in four days, the entire marketing department will conduct a self-reflection. Give me a business plan or a self-reflection letter. It’s up to you.”

Zhou Yi smiled with his lips twitching, the irony obvious.

He just smiled and didn’t say anything else.

Jian Hang wouldn’t dwell on the same issue; she didn’t have the time. She had already informed everyone that she would only focus on the results at the next meeting.

“The Fourth Division has over 1,600 dealers. The sales department will work hard these next few days to organize and categorize all dealer information. Specifically, highlight any dealers that has overlapping contracts with the Second Division. Please provide me with the data at the next meeting.

“If there’s nothing else, let’s adjourn the meeting here. Director Zheng and Director Zhou, please stay.” She turned off the laptop.

The others were a little confused, including Xiao Fan, who couldn’t yet adapt to her style.

It has only been twenty minutes, and the meeting was ending so soon?

Zheng Yanshu leaned back in his chair, legs crossed, and absentmindedly twirled a pen. Jian Hang was asking about overlapping dealer’s information, but he didn’t know what she was going to do with it.

Zhou Yi seemed to be watching a live game video with the sound off. In fact, he was not paying attention at all. He was thinking about the promotional projects he had spent a lot of effort on, but which ended up getting cancelled because the company cut the operating funds for the Fourth Division.

The others left the meeting room one after another, and Xiao Fan looked at Jian Hang.

Jian Hang raised her chin slightly, motioning for her to get busy elsewhere.

Xiao Fan understood, closed the door, and left.

Jian Hang had been standing during the meeting. Now, she pulled a chair over and sat down.

Zheng Yanshu stopped spinning his pen and pinned it to his meeting notebook. This was the first time in his career that he had been emotionally compromised during a meeting and hadn’t noted down anything.

“Ms. Jian, may I ask,” he adjusted his tone, trying to suppress his anger, “what is the purpose of asking for overlapping dealers’ information?”

Jian Hang didn’t answer, instead she asked, “How many of our dealers overlap with the Second Division?”

“More than 500.”

“How much over 500?”

“It’s 562.”

In terms of business ability, no one could find fault with Zheng Yanshu—all the data was in his head.

Jian Hang instructed, “Give me a detailed list of these 562 dealers by region, including but not limited to their financial strength, scale, and sales volume of Fourth Division products in the past two years.”

“Ms. Jian, you haven’t answered my question yet. What do you want these dealers information for?”

Jian Hang smiled, then asked instead, “Is there any rule in the Fourth Division that I’m not aware of? For example, does the boss have to report to the subordinates before doing something?”

Zheng Yanshu choked.

He chuckled, “Ms. Jian, I’m here today not to give you face, nor am I afraid of being fired. Do you know why I’m here?”

He asked the question himself and but he also answered, “Because I—“

After just a couple of words, Jian Hang interrupted, “I know. Because you don’t want to give up the Fourth Division. That’s why I was sure you would come.”

Marriage First, Love Later translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com

T/N: The marketing plans have all been overturned because Qin Moling cut off the Fourth Division’s operating expenses. They can’t not pay salaries or not ship their products right? So it was the marketing budget that had to go.

Why did their operating expenses get cut? Because the Fourth Division has already been given special authority to raise its own funds. Jian Hang had to ask for this because the company is more interested in investing in the Second Division since it is more profitable. What they were getting was not enough, so she wanted to get funding elsewhere.

It’s like being a HS student—your allowance is not enough because the family’s money is going to your overachieving sister, so you go out and get a part time job, and then before you even get your first salary, your Dad suddenly says ‘okay, you now earn your own money, I’m cutting your allowance’ and you can only go ‘eh?? 😱’
