[ContrastTeamInADadW/BabyShow] Chapter 102.2 — How Did You Do That?

Everyone started speculating:

[That mistress is a vicious person to begin with. People like them are mentally unstable and could do anything. She killed the biological mother and was afraid of being discovered, so she acted against him, the son, first.]

[No, it still doesn’t make sense. I feel like this matter has been quite strange since the scumbag stepmother killed the original wife.]

[Could it be for money?] someone speculated casually.

[Wow, it’s not impossible! Wasn’t there a rumor before that if Lin Cheng didn’t work hard, he would inherit the family property?]

Although, that rumor has always been treated as a joke.

[The people invited to Lin Cheng’s press conference were all mainstream media, and the venue was set in the main hall of Huachen Building, a place that ordinary people couldn’t book at all.]

[And did you notice that whether it was the report on Lin Cheng’s blackening incident or the news on Lin Zhenhong’s incident, there was no mention of the Lin family’s background from beginning to end.]

[Could it be that the family behind Lin Cheng is very powerful?]

[If that’s the case, it seems that things make sense.]

After all, the relationships between large families were far more complicated than those of ordinary families. In order to fight for the family property, anything could happen.

[So, what exactly was Lin Cheng’s background?]

[Do we know of any powerful yet low-key family?]

… …

Netizens were still speculating, unaware that they were actually getting incredibly close to the truth. The online speculation had no effect on Lin Cheng. Having finished his work, Lin Cheng headed straight back to the Lin family residence.

Upon entering, he saw Lin Momo trotting out to greet him, “Dad!”

“Hm?” Lin Cheng responded.

“The bad guys have all been caught, right?!” Lin Momo asked, her voice tinged with excitement.

Hearing this, Lin Cheng was stunned. What Lin Zhenhong and Ye Yun did, what Sun Yanzhou planned—all these weren’t good news. Originally, Lin Cheng hadn’t intended to let Lin Momo know about any of this, which was why he had told his family not to let her look at the phone.

But from Lin Momo’s expression, Lin Cheng could tell she already knew everything.

Lin Cheng looked up at Old Master Lin, who followed behind Lin Momo at a slower pace.

Meeting his grandson’s questioning gaze, Old Master Lin snorted and retorted, “You made such a fuss, and you still don’t want people to know?”

Lin Momo added after Old Master Lin, “I saw it on the TV news.”

That evening, while Grandpa Lin was watching TV and Lin Momo was doing homework beside him, the story of a prominent entertainment company agent who induced fans to commit crimes against his own artist, as well as the murder committed by the chairman of Hongye Group happened to be on primetime news, and Lin Momo saw it.

“So you went to catch the bad guys today, right?” Lin Momo pressed.

Hearing this, Lin Cheng wanted to laugh, but he corrected her, saying, “I went to clarify some things. The bad guys were caught by the police.”

Lin Momo nodded but still excitedly pulled Lin Cheng, continuing to ask, “How did you bring them to justice?”

After all, in that dream, she and her father were all harmed by the bad guys in the end.

Meeting Lin Momo’s curious eyes, Lin Cheng pondered for a moment before finally offering a scientific, reasonable, and official reason, “I called the police.”

Seeing that Lin Momo seemed about to ask more, Lin Cheng preempted her, asking, “Have you finished your holiday homework?”

As soon as Lin Cheng said this, the expression on Lin Momo’s face darkened visibly.

As a student, catching up on homework was Lin Momo’s biggest pain right now.

“I’ll finish it right now,” Lin Momo said. She stopped pestering Lin Cheng and ran back to her room to continue her homework.

Lin Cheng and Old Master Lin went to the study.

“Have the possible verdicts for Lin Zhenhong and Ye Yun been discussed?” Old Man Lin asked.

Lin Xiao didn’t answer. But from Lin Cheng’s expression, Old Master Lin already knew the answer.

“It’s what he deserves,” Old Master Lin finally said with a sigh.

“What’s the arrangement at Hongye Group?” Old Man Lin asked again.

“The Lin family’s assets will be recovered. Other project assets, once unfrozen, will be liquidated and used to pay off debts and liquidated damages. As for the remaining debts, that’s the Ye family’s business and has nothing to do with us,” Lin Yi said coldly.

Old Master Lin nodded and looked at Lin Cheng, suddenly realizing that his grandson had truly grown up. Many things no longer required his attention.

“By the way,” he thought, turning to Lin Cheng again. “Did you have the internet make such a fuss about your relationship with Lin Zhenhong?”

“No,” Lin Cheng hadn’t expected the connection between Lin Zhenhong and him to surface. He actually disdained using it to publicly explain his past.

“It was Lin Zhenming,” Lin Cheng said.

Hearing this, Old Master Lin was stunned. “Your second uncle?”

“Yes.”

In Lin Zhenming’s eyes, his eldest brother had always been his greatest rival for the Lin family succession. This time, Lin Zhenhong’s misfortune had given Lin Zhenming a glimmer of hope. He had deliberately taken advantage of this opportunity to expose Lin Zhenhong and Ye Yun’s actions against Lin Cheng.

Besides adding insult to injury, he also had another purpose: to leverage the current public opinion regarding Lin Cheng’s involvement in these messy incidents and muddy the waters,  forcing Old Master Lin to consider handing the Lin family inheritance over to him, who was clean and not involved in the incident.

Old Master Lin had apparently thought of this as well, and snorted coldly, “That Lin Zhenming!”

Compared to Lin Zhenhong, the second son of the Lin family wasn’t exactly bad, but he was too cunning and short-sighted.

“It’s not a big deal. I’ll take care of it.”

“Okay,” Old Master Lin nodded, then suddenly looked at Lin Cheng and said, “One more question.”

“What?”

“Tell me, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 20/3, and 12345609, which three numbers correspond to a language?”

Lin Cheng: “…”

This must be another one of Lin Momo’s weird homework assignments.

“I’ll go see if she’s going to bed on time.” With that, Lin Cheng turned and left.

Old Master Lin was left in the study, peering at a copy of the ‘Encyclopedia of Languages.’

T/N: I also don’t know what to do with Lin Momo’s homework question 😂

It’s chapter 102 and I think I don’t appreciate enough how different the Lin family is from the usual ‘rich, second generation’ families. Ye Yun’s plan from 10 years ago was to blacken Lin Cheng’s reputation enough so that his grandfather won’t consider him as heir. They’d really disinherit a capable heir because he had some messy online scandals? 😳 I don’t know if this was Ye Yun’s delusion or the Lin family really was that strict.

But here second uncle Lin Zhenming seems to think the same way—he was not involved in the scandal so surely Old Master Lin would choose him as heir.

And the netizens doesn’t seem to think that inheritance rights from a family that owns several shopping malls (Hongye Group) and being related to a real estate tycoon family (Ye Family) is enough reason to act against someone.  How rich do you have to be to make blackening your stepson ‘reasonable’? 😅

Also, Ye Yun was a daughter from a wealthy family but Old Master Lin didnt approve of her and wanted his son to marry the daughter of his comrade (I guess from the military? The text never said). So a tycoon’s daughter did not have enough background to marry into the Lin family.

I always see the phrase ‘a noble or wealthy family’ in c-novels, e.g. ‘only a noble or wealthy family can attend this auction’. I guess a family can be rich but they are not necessarily ‘noble’, and presumably the Lin family, with its deep roots, falls under the ‘noble’ category. It’s just that they are also insanely rich.
