It’s been a long time but the vague figure on the bed didn’t speak and remained motionless.
Seeing the figure being like this, Father Su—who had been calm this entire time—became a little anxious. He put the white porcelain bowl close to the other party’s mouth, and the smell of blood filled the air.
“Go ahead, drink some. You refused to drink your dad’s blood. This is your brother’s blood. It should taste different.”
Mother Su sat on the side of the bed and touched Tongtong’s soft hair lovingly, “The Master said that after drinking enough blood, the jiangshi will be able to advance, and then we will be able to meet again.”
Su Zijian and Su Sisi: “!!!”
Su Sisi stared at the person and was horrified to find that she had not moved from beginning to end, sitting there like a dead person or a motionless doll.
It seemed like she was really not human.
In an instant, all kinds of strange details emerged in her mind.
No wonder Su Zhi didn’t show up for a long time. Every time she asked about the cause of the illness, her parents were always vague.
It turned out the other party was a jiangshi!
She opened her mouth but was afraid to speak.
They didn’t even care about their own son—if she questioned them rashly, she might end up getting killed!
Being smart, she immediately chose to protect herself.
However, Su Zijian, their biological son, was not as calm as she was.
Blood was still dripping from his wound, and invisible qi was draining from his body along with the blood—but the physical pain was far less severe than the mental shock.
He was dumbfounded, looking at these most familiar strangers, “Dad, Mom, what are you talking about? Why can’t I understand?”
Mother Su smiled and said, “Why don’t you understand? Isn’t this easy to understand? Your older sister is back.”
Su Zijian felt a chill run down his back and goose bumps all over his body. He, who was once a powerful figure in the workplace, lost all his composure and shouted, “You’re crazy!
“Su Zhi has been missing for more than 20 years. She might have already died outside. That jiangshi is not my sister!”
One stone could stir up a thousand ripples. Father Su slammed the porcelain bowl heavily on the table.
He walked to the opposite side of Su Zijian, raised his hand and slapped him hard, making him see stars, “How could you curse your older sister like that?”
Mother Su came over angrily and also slapped Su Zijian in the face. The ring on her finger scratched his face, leaving a deep, bloody mark.
“If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t even be here. Why do you curse her like that? What qualifications do you have to curse her?”
Su Zijian ignored the pain on his cheek and stared blankly at his parents, “… What do you mean?”
The man pushed his glasses up, and after suppressing his anger, he became gentle and elegant again, but the words he spoke were as cold as ice, “If we didn’t want to have a child like Tongtong, we wouldn’t have had you.”
Then he glanced at the shocked Su Sisi next to him and said coldly, “You too.”
Mother Su hugged his arm, a sick smile appearing on her face, and her voice was gentle and tender, “We named you Zijian1, hoping that Tongtong will be healthy. We also named you Sisi2, hoping that Tongtong would come home soon.
“But neither of you looked like Tongtong, so all our efforts were wasted.”
Su Zijian and Su Sisi: “???”
Su Zijian felt as if he was struck by lightning and simply couldn’t believe what he heard.
He was the only son of the family, the heir, a young CEO at the peak of his career, a rich second-generation who was envied by countless people… but he was just a substitute for his older sister?
“Mom and Dad, are you guys kidding?” Su Zijian tried to stay calm and said with a forced smile, “This joke is not very funny.”
Mother Su smiled but said nothing, looking extremely strange.
Seeing his mother like this, fragments of memory suddenly emerged in Su Zijian’s mind.
She never let him into Su Zhi’s room. The photo in her wallet was that of a four-year-old girl. The girl had twin ponytails, held a lollipop, and had an innocent and cute smile.
His parents adopted Su Sisi when he was four years old.
Su Zhi was abducted when she was four years old.
This …
Su Zijian took a deep breath and said in disbelief, “So you raised me until I was four years old, and when you saw that I didn’t look like Su Zhi, you adopted Sisi.”
Father Su was disdainful and didn’t hide anything, saying firmly, “That’s right.”
Mother Su gently recalled that past and sighed, “When you were born, you looked very much like her, but a knockoff is still just a knockoff, and you two are not alike at all.”
She glanced at Su Sisi and said, “You were as cute as Tongtong when you were a child, but now you are becoming less and less like her. You are much more cunning than Tongtong.”
Su Sisi felt as if she had fallen into an icy cave. It turned out that her name had this meaning?
She, who was so noble, was just a substitute, and the one that her wealthy parents loved was actually their biological daughter?
What’s even more terrifying was that even their own son was just a substitute.
Father Su put his arm around Mother Su’s shoulders, his face calm as a pool of water, and raised the corners of his mouth, “No, they are still somewhat useful, at least Tongtong can be saved.”
When Mother Su thought of this, a genuine smile appeared on her face, in stark contrast to the gentle, fake smile she had before. “I’ve waited for more than ten years, and it’s finally going to happen.”
Su Zijian was on the verge of collapse, shaking all over, speaking incoherently, “Impossible, this is impossible. Dad, I am your son, you can’t give her my blood to drink, I will die.”
Why should he give blood to a sister he has never met?
Father Yu thought for a moment and nodded, “You are right.”
Su Zijian breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that he still mattered in his parents’ hearts.
But the next second, Father Yu stared at the wound on his arm and said in a caring manner, “Today is the first time, I am not very skilled and I was not thoughtful enough, so I ended up injuring you like this.
“This way, the wound could easily become infected and lead to your death. I will ask the doctor to draw your blood later. You must be as healthy as your name.”
Su Zijian was shocked. “Healthy? You want me to be a jiangshi blood bag forever?”
Father Su nodded as a matter of course, “That’s right.”
Su Zijian was completely confused. His parents didn’t take him seriously at all. He was not even worth a hair of his older sister!
I Livestream Divination to the World translated by Maela @ whitemoonlighttranslations.com
T/N: You may have heard of the term ‘jiangshi.‘ They’re often translated as ‘Chinese hopping vampire’. Or zombies. I’m keeping it in pinyin because while they are reanimated corpses, they are very different from ‘vampires’ or ‘zombies’ as we use it in English.

This photo is the iconic image of a jiangshi—wearing Qing dynasty court official robes, stiff body, blue-green skin, arms extended, claws and fangs, hops around (because their limbs are too stiff to walk properly).
The Chinese concept of jiangshi is very different from the Western zombies. They are not decaying bodies infected with some virus—they are corpses that somehow TRANSFORM to become animated. Perhaps because their soul was trapped in the body, or the corpse absorbed too much yang qi, or the corpse somehow did not decay, or there was too much resentment, etc. It’s different causes and always metaphysical.
And just like the Fox and the Weasel we’ve encountered before, they can evolve into higher forms and become more powerful.
Traditionally, they steal yang qi from the living and don’t drink blood or eat flesh, but modern cinema and Western stories about vampires/zombies have blurred the lines somewhat. Jiangshi is a popular horror genre in films.
