[ContrastTeamInADadW/BabyShow] Chapter 96.2 — Not That Simple

After an unknown amount of time, the enemy soldiers who could no longer find anything valuable finally stopped searching the mansion and turned to leave. As they left, they were still cursing with reluctance, as if they were not satisfied with their little gain.

What followed was another round of noises.

Lin Haiying didn’t know what was happening outside, but the smell of smoke slowly seeped into the wooden box through the gaps in the wooden planks.

Lin Haiying instinctively felt uneasy, and she wanted to push open the cabinet doors to take a look, but the footsteps of the enemy soldiers were not far away.

Thinking of her father’s instructions, Lin Haiying finally retracted her hand, tightly clasped the envelope in her arms, and remained quietly in the cabinet.

There came the sound of crackling noises outside, the temperature around her began to rise, and more and more smoke poured into the cabinet.

The thick smoke choked Lin Haiying. She waited until the voices of those soldiers outside finally disappeared, but by then, her consciousness had already begun to fade.

In the end, Lin Haiying kept her promise to her father and did not let the enemy soldiers find her, nor did she let the list in her arms be discovered. However, she could no longer wait for Lin An’nan to come back to pick her up.

… …

“Cut! This shot is over!”

After that, Director Liu said to everyone, “Everyone has worked hard.”

Hearing this, Lin Momo’s eyes lit up, and the wooden cover above her was soon lifted. The next second, she saw Lin Cheng’s figure appear.

“Dad,” Lin Momo shouted in surprise.

“Come out now,” Lin Cheng said and took Lin Momo out of the cabinet.

At this time, several directors and crew staff also came over.

“Not bad, not bad, this shot is totally fine, and the remaining few split shots will be perfect after adding them in later!” Director Liu said excitedly.

Unlike most directors, Director Liu liked to shoot with multiple cameras at the same time—one continuous shot to the end—and then cut the split shots in as embellishments.

Therefore, the end of this shot meant that all of Lin Momo’s scenes have been completed.

“But everyone has to work hard to do the next shots,” Director Liu said.

The next scenes to be shot were the clips after the Lin Mansion was destroyed by the enemy.

The actors were arranged to stay in temporary rest area, while the stage staff and the scene props team entered the set and began to get busy preparing. Using special props, the scene was arranged to look like the mansion had been smashed and burned.

Director Liu directed his crew to start shooting the scenes when the Lin Mansion was destroyed.

They were busy from the evening until early the next morning when Director Liu finally asked the stage staff to call the actors in the rest area to come back in.

The actors had barely rested for a few hours and now came out to the set again. At this time, they all looked a little tired and full of vicissitudes of life. However, this was exactly what Director Liu wanted.

“Everyone cheer up and get ready, we are going to shoot the last part!”

The last scene: While leading the enemy away, Lin An’nan and his wife were eventually captured by the enemy army and taken to a secret concentration camp.

The Lin family was held in the concentration camp for three months. With the joint efforts of various aid forces, they were finally rescued and released.

When the couple returned to the Lin Mansion three months later, their once magnificent home was already in ruins.

After they ‘escaped’, the enemy army looted the Lin Mansion for its valuables. This was something that Lin An’nan and his wife had already expected. However, they underestimated the shameless behavior of the enemy army.

They not only took things from the Lin Mansion but also completely destroyed it.

Looking at the mostly burned out buildings and hearing the news of the death of their little daughter from their old servant, the couple’s face showed a look of grief.

Especially the actress who played the role of Lin An’nan’s wife—her acting skills fully burst out and her heart-wrenching cry infected everyone around her. Even the crew on the set couldn’t help but feel sad.

Until the end of the filming, everyone couldn’t recover from this sad and heavy anger for a long time.

It wasn’t until the crew applauded that many people’s emotions gradually eased.

The part of Lin An’nan was finally completed. According to convention, the crew still organized a simple celebration ceremony.

Finally, the crew gave red envelopes one by one to all the actors who played people who had died in the scenes, all in accordance with the usual tradition.

When it came to Lin Momo, the ‘red envelope’ she received was different from everyone else’s. The big, red gift box was not filled with cash representing auspicious numbers but a four-piece Disney-themed stationery set.

“Our field service sister prepared it for you. Study hard once school starts,” Director Liu said to Lin Momo with a smile on his face.

“Okay,” Lin Momo nodded, and thanked everyone in the crew one by one.

… …

After the filming ended, Lin Cheng took Lin Momo away.

The two walked along the long tree-lined path between the main mansion and the gate. Lin Xiao looked down and saw that Lin Momo’s eyes had began to droop, so he simply carried her on his back.

Just when Lin Xiao thought that Lin Momo had fallen asleep, Lin Momo’s voice suddenly came to his ears.

“Dad.”

“Hm?”

“Did great-grandfather’s aunt pass away that time?” Lin Momo asked in a muffled voice.

Hearing this, Lin Xiao was slightly stunned.

During the filming, Director Liu did not directly shoot the scene where ‘Lin Haiying’ died in the fire. In Lin Momo’s scene, she just ‘fell asleep’ inside the wooden cabinet.

However, they obviously underestimated the child’s ability to understand.

Just like in the story, at that last moment, Lin Haiying actually understood everything; Lin Momo also understood everything.

“Yeah,” Lin Cheng responded, without hiding it from Lin Momo.

Just as Lin Cheng was thinking about how to explain it in order to avoid this moment in history from leaving a shadow in Lin Momo’s heart, he heard Lin Momo say very seriously, “Our ancestors were all very powerful and made contributions to the motherland.”

“Yeah,” Lin Yi smiled and responded.

This was the ancestral legacy of the Lin family.

  1. All this talk about Legacies but then the sloppy modern generation with a very indecisive and soft senile house head that’s essentially just playing house with everyone. Gross.

Pretty sure the current house head and the next gen aside from Lin Momo is a disgrace to their lineage.

They say the first generation builds, the second maintains, the third squanders.
