[DayTheEngagementWasBroken] Chapter 25.2 — Once the Engagement is Broken, It’s Back to ‘Mr. He’

Gou An was standing with her hands on her hips, imagining poking the fat cat’s furry head and scolding it for being useless.

At this moment, the door of the study on the second floor opened.

The man who had just been madly slandered by her cat as being heartless walked out, but Gou Yu did not follow him out.

After going downstairs, He Jinxing politely said ‘goodbye’ to Jiang Yuan, and then walked towards the front door. When he passed Gou An again, she saw a thin mark on his chin, as if he had been scratched by a thin wire.

The wound was fresh, still oozing blood.

He Jinxing raised his hand nonchalantly and wiped the blood off the wound with his thumb. He lowered his head and glanced at the red stain on his finger, his eyes expressionless…

He paused there.

As if he remembered something, he turned around and looked deeply at Gou An who was standing beside him.

Gou An felt her hair standing up one by one—

She rushed upstairs in one quick leap, shouting “Dad!”, and shot into the study like a frightened little bird. She scrambled to slam open the half-open door to the study. The first thing that came to her view was Gou Yu, sitting behind the desk.

Gou An first breathed a sigh of relief that he was still very much alive.

Then she realized that the atmosphere wasn’t quite right——

Gou Yu’s usual gentle appearance in front of others was gone. His sleeves were pulled up to his elbows, his hair was a little messy, and his pair of deep eyes—which were exactly the same as Gou An’s—were flashing with emotion…

The desk before him was a mess, with documents scattered all over the floor like snowflakes. Some of these stacks were probably scattered when they were thrown at someone with too much force so that even the staples wires on them were also lifted up.

The sharp end of the staple wires pointed quietly up toward the sky.

Gou An froze at the door of the study, her mind full of thoughts about how before she could be thrown into prison, her biological father might be sent in by He Jinxing to pave the way for her and so on.

Just then, she heard Gou Yu calling her name, in exactly the same tone as when he called her to lunch today.

“An’an, your engagement with He Ran is cancelled.”

“…”

“In a couple of days, the two families will have a meal together, and this matter will be officially over.”

At this moment, Gou An couldn’t believe her ears. This monumental surprise overwhelmed her mind and she could only blink blankly at her father…

Suddenly, she realized what He Jinxing was doing at her house.

As if possessed by some mysterious force, Gou An ran downstairs and chased after him.

It was not known whether he was waiting for her on purpose or the man was just walking very slowly, but when she rushed back outside, the man was still standing outside the door, slowly opening his black umbrella.

He turned around upon hearing the noise and was unexpectedly met with a pair of brilliant black eyes—the almond-shaped eyes seemed to burst with unusually bright and dazzling colors at this moment.

The eldest daughter of the Gou family was a person who would always write her emotions on her face, and at this moment, she was looking at him eagerly with her sparkling eyes.

With a look of great joy.

More vivid than he has ever seen.

At this moment, He Jinxing suddenly realized that he has never seen his reflection so clearly imprinted in this pair of black eyes before him.

So his action of holding the umbrella paused, and the man slightly curved his eyes with an ambiguous expression, “It seems that you have heard some good news.”

Gou An wished she could kowtow to the King of Hell.

But from today on, the one before her was not the King of Hell, but the kind-hearted Bodhisattva!

“Today, I didn’t have a very good day.” Gou An licked her lower lip. “I had a fight with someone in the morning, and had another big fight with my brother at noon. I almost thought that today would be included in the top three ‘darkest days of my life’—”

She spoke incoherently, hesitating on her words, “It doesn’t seem so bad now.”

He Jinxing didn’t say anything, just waited quietly for her to finish her words.

Gou An said sincerely, “That is, thank you.”

She raised her face slightly and looked at the man in front of her.

Her fair cheeks had turned a little red, but at least it wasn’t her eyes that were red this time.

He Jinxing was silent for a few seconds, and for no reason he could say, he seemed to be infected by her ‘super happy’ mood and relaxed a little, so he smiled and said with an ambiguous tone, “This is the second time you’ve thanked me today.”

He paused.

“It seems that my nephew is really terrible. You are this happy that you don’t have to marry him… I’m suddenly starting to worry. Is there something wrong with the He family’s education?”

Gou An: “…”

Oh, right.

She was so, so happy.

She had even forgotten that the person she had so happily broken off being engaged with was this man’s nephew.

Gou An raised her hands, cupped her cheeks, and adjusted the brimming ecstasy on her face.

After thinking about it, she took out the note that the man had given to her before from her pocket and handed it back to him politely.

“Mr. He.”

The address changed back to what it was before, but this time it was said with genuine respect not the reluctant fear from before.

Gou An’s idea was very simple. From today on, she was free, so she no longer needed to have anything to do with the He family. In other words, there would be no entanglement between them, and naturally she would not need their help and favors.

He was no longer her elder, so he didn’t need to pay too much attention to her or worry about her matters anymore.

The handing over of this contact information symbolized her sensibility—

Thank you for your care in the past, and I am deeply grateful. From today on, let’s keep to ourselves (hands clasped together.JPG). Let’s just maintain a normal neighborly relationship where if we unfortunately meet at the doorstep, we nod and smile politely— but not at all awkwardly—and then go our separate ways.

She sincerely hoped that when others mention the one million-word bloody battle between Lu Wan and He Jinxing, the only thing she could contribute to the discussion, while cracking melon seeds, was to say, ‘Oh, what a coincidence, he’s my neighbor.’

The abacus in Gou An’s heart clacked and it was the most joyful sound in the world. She waited happily for He Jinxing to take the note, and then she—Gou An—would be free from the curse in the original book and move towards a bright, new life.

However, after waiting for a while, she found that her hand was still held out, and there was no sign of the note being taken away.

“…”

Gou An raised her head blankly and found that the man had turned slightly sideways, lowered his head, and was looking at her with a smile.

The two looked at each other in silence for a few seconds.

“‘Mr. He,’” the man repeated slowly.

“…”

“Miss Gou is truly a business genius. She has done a perfect job of ‘crossing the river and then destroying the bridge’.” He said quietly, “Gou Yu should have trained you well.”

“…”

“It seems Gou Yu didn’t tell you that while your engagement with He Ran was cancelled…”

He Jinxing smiled and paused before adding, “Your engagement with the He family still stands.”

“…”

After appreciating the girl’s instantly cracked expression for a while, the man raised his hand and touched his chin, “Well, your father was also very unhappy about it. He was too excited and threw a folder at me, as if there was no good person in our He family.”

C’mon, let’s be fair.

His self-analysis was indeed very accurate.

She totally agreed.

“Mr. He—”

The man restrained his relaxed expression slightly and looked at her in silence.

“… Young Uncle.”

“Mm?”

Only then did he suddenly understand Chinese and make sounds from deep in his nose.

After thinking about it, he suddenly asked, “Have you added me on WeChat?”

“… I’ve added.”

“Okay, I’ll approve your application in a moment.”

The man lifted his hand and swept it towards her. His voice sounded so gentle (so yin and yang) and kind (definitely weird).

“Go on, hm?”
