The private houses on the outskirts of Nancheng have an ordinary and common appearance.
A middle-aged man was panting heavily, rushing tawards a particular house. His eye sockets were sunken, his eyes were dark, and his whole body was skin and bones.
As soon as he entered the house, he shouted in horror, “Fang Ruoshui, those police are coming to arrest me!”
Immediately afterwards, a young woman in a wheelchair came out. She was about twenty five or twenty six years old, with a beautiful appearance and a gentle temperament. Even the simple room was brightened by her presence.
But what she said was not so gentle. She glared at the middle-aged man coldly. “Didn’t I tell you not to come to me at this time of the day? If you don’t want to die, get as far away from me as possible!”
Then, she lowered her eyes, cradled the urn in her arms, and her eyebrows became gentle. She said as if she was talking to someone, “Sister, he is too noisy, I really didn’t want to scold him.
“What? You say I’m not allowed to curse?
“Okay, I won’t curse anyone anymore. Ruoshui will always be your obedient little darling …”
Seeing this, the middle-aged man took two steps back in fear.
Fang Ruoshui looked weak and harmless, her body was broken and even needed care. But in fact, she was comparable to a savage beast. He had forgotten that every day at noon and evening, during the transition between extreme yin and extreme yang, Fang Ruoshui would hold an urn and mutter to herself, as if trying to awaken the one inside.
Last time, he was unaware of the situation and he disturbed her, so she put a rope around the wall of the house where he lived—which was a spell intended to make someone hang himself. That night, he couldn’t help but get up, pick up the rope, and hang himself from the chandelier.
If the chandelier hadn’t been unable to withstand his weight, he would have been strangled!
Obviously they were both part of Youdu, and they were sent here together to carry out a task in Nancheng. They should have been close partners. Yet Fang Ruoshui attacked him without any scruples. How crazy was she?
But Fang Ruoshui belonged to the middle level of Youdu and was likely to rise to the top in the future. She was completely different from him who was stuck at the bottom.
The middle-aged man was so angry but he didn’t dare to show it in front of Fang Ruoshui.
He thought of the police officers who were chasing him, and he felt deep fear in his heart. He had done a lot of bad things in order to make money over the years, such as life-buying-money for a terminally ill boss, and also a borrowing-luck spell for a starlet who had the same eight characters as her friend.
Anyone who committed unjust deeds would be punished by his own death. He was targeted by police officers and scurried around like a rat in the gutter. He had to join Youdu to seek asylum.
With the help of Youdu, he had hidden very well, but for some reason, his current address was suddenly found, and his true identity was also exposed to the Special Cases Management Bureau.
If he was caught—even if he was not sentenced to death—he would probably be imprisoned.
The middle-aged man gritted his teeth, mustered up his courage, and looked at Fang Ruoshui. “Ms. Fang, I am also from Youdu, and I am still your companion on this mission. You must help me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a pair of cold eyes looked at him. Fang Ruoshui’s gentle mask was torn apart because of being disturbed. “Who do you think you are? If I kill you today, they won’t hold me accountable. What does it have to do with me whether you die or not?”
The middle-aged man was shocked when he heard this. He lost all his strength. As if he thought of something, he found a little hope and spoke of his worth, “Miss Fang, this mission is very difficult. Without my help, you will have difficulty completing it.”
Since Fang Ruoshui couldn’t be moved by companionship, then use the lure of benefits.
The middle-aged man with an hooked nose looked at Fang Ruoshui’s legs with aimless eyes. Her legs were covered with blankets, weak and twisted into a strange shape. This was the end result of studying the Lu Ban sect’s teachings.
The middle-aged man thought that he was acting rationally and had explained how important he was to the mission so, of course, Fang Ruoshui would definitely help him. What he didn’t expect was that when Fang Ruoshui saw him looking at her mutilated legs, she became furious, as angry as boiling water.
When the middle-aged man saw her expression, he felt deep fear in his heart, feeling that something devastating was going to happen.
Before his frightened eyes, Fang Ruoshui took out a straw figure from her pocket. This doll was made of straw, with facial features painted on its face, and a name and eight characters written on its body.
When he saw the appearance of the straw man, the middle-aged man’s eyes got so big they were about to burst! He grew enraged!
He instantly forgot about his fear of Ruoshui and rushed forward like an arrow from a bow. There was only one thought left in his mind: get that straw man quickly!
But Fang Ruoshui reacted faster than him—she took out a small, pointed metal and inserted it into the straw man’s leg.
A heartrending shriek came.
“Ahhhhh!”
The middle-aged man’s right leg seemed to have been stabbed by something. His foot went soft, his body lost balance, and he fell down.
Due to the inertia, he knelt down directly in front of Fang Ruoshui’s wheelchair. Although his right leg was still there, there was no feeling in it—as if he didn’t have any legs at all.
A faint smile appeared on Fang Ruoshui’s face. She raised her hand and pulled out the nail from the straw man’s right leg. She moved it slightly and placed it on top of the straw man’s left leg.
“No!”
The middle-aged man shouted in fear and quickly begged Fang Ruoshui for mercy, “Miss Fang, it was my fault. I shouldn’t have laughed at your legs!”
He was careless. He shouldn’t have shown ridicule for her broken legs.
