[ILivestreamDivination] Chapter 34.4 — A Dream of Golden Millet

Gu Zaoliang also nodded, convinced, with little hope in his eyes, “Master, he is as stubborn as a cow. I know you can’t persuade him. How about you just figure out whether Xiao Ming is safe today and whether he can go home smoothly after this.”

“This photo won’t work. Do you have a photo of him showing his face?”

“Yes!” Gu Zaoliang immediately turned around and left. When he came back, he held a single photo in his hand. It was Dong Ming’s photo, which made Dong Ming’s fans in the livestream extremely excited.

However, at this time, An Rugu calculated with her fingers, frowned slightly, and the look in her eyes became grim. She shook her head gently, “His fate is as black as coal, and he has a death omen on his face. He will not survive today.”

Dong Ming’s parents: “!!!”

Audience in the livestream channel: “!!!”

[Ouch, oh, no, no! ! !]

[Ah, this, I’m going to cry, he’s only 28 years old.]

[The fatality rate of wingsuit flying is as high as 30 percent. It can be said that you are playing a game of death, with your life on the line. Alas, as expected.]

[This viewer heard the streamer spreading rumors as soon as I entered the livestream channel. Those who spread rumors will be held legally responsible!]

Dong Ming’s mother suddenly collapsed and burst into tears. “We only have this one son. If he is gone, how can we survive? I knew something would happen. At first, he made money to support the family, but he has already made a lot of money.

“We said enough is enough and he should stop attending these events, but he didn’t listen and wanted to make more money. But money is not as important as his life…”

Dong Ming’s mother stood up immediately and wanted to call her son, but then she thought about it. He wouldn’t answer the phone during the game. She didn’t know how to stop it from happening even if she wanted to.

The two of them were in their fifties, and their originally white hair seemed to have turned even whiter.

Dong Ming’s father was stunned for a long time; then he subconsciously took out a handful of small-denomination bills from his pocket with rough fingers, put them all in front of his mobile phone, and said almost incoherently, “Master, can you help Xiao Ming? Our Xiao Ming is rich, please save our Xiao Ming!”

Dong Ming’s gray-haired father’s eyes were red. He was at a loss and fell into a daze. He felt that the whole world was close to collapse.

Dong Ming was their only son, and they have no way to accept the consequences of losing him.

… …

[I checked the time of the wingsuit flight competition. It starts at 2:30 in the afternoon, which is still ten minutes from now.]

[I called the organizer, but they said I had a mental disease and no one believed me at all.]

[Any normal person would not believe what she said. I can understand it, but I can’t accept it. I don’t want Dong Ming to die!]

[There are only ten minutes left, and I can’t think of any way to save him.

The audience in the livestream channel was busy thinking of solutions. At some point, An Rugu left the computer without anyone noticing. When she came back, she was holding in her hand a talisman with complicated symbols drawn on it.

This was something she crafted just now outside the camera. Invitations to the gods were something to be done in private and secrecy. It was best not to be seen by other people. Otherwise, it would be unlikely that the gods will lend you their energy.

Once she sat back on the computer chair, she wrote his eight characters on it and activated the talisman.

The spell painted on the talisman was licked by invisible flames, tracing the complicated design, burning from the edge to the middle, and from the middle to the edge. The complex symbols gradually changed color. In the eyes of tens of thousands of people in the livestream channel, it gradually turned into a puddle of ashes.

… …

[? ? ? When did the streamer take out a lighter? Why didn’t I hear the lighter clicking?]

[I didn’t see how this charm burned. Maybe it was because there was a candle next to the computer.]

[The streamer is not busy saving people, but is still burning charms?]

[I remember the host said that the Daoist temple sells safety talismans. Could this be a safety talisman? Can the safety talismans save people remotely?]

[Last time, I went to Cloud Rise temple to buy several safety talismans. A Daoist temple official told me that I needed to carry them with me. Those can’t be the same safety talismans.]

As expected, An Rugu quietly swept away the ashes with a calm expression. “This is not a safety talisman. This is a Dream of Golden Millet talisman.”

Dong Ming’s parents: “???”

Audience in the livestream channel: “???”

They have heard of a dream of golden millet, but what is the Dream of Golden Millet talisman?

Under everyone’s doubtful eyes, An Rugu explained slowly. “This talisman has a long story. It is said that a scholar met the Daoist Lu Weng in an inn. At that time, the innkeeper was cooking yellow grains and millet. The Daoist gave him a celadon pillow for him to sleep on while they waited for the meal. While sleeping, the scholar enjoyed glory and wealth in his dream. When he woke up, the grains and millet being cooked by the innkeeper was not yet done. This is the origin of a dream of golden millet.

“And that Daoist priest Lu Weng was none other than Lu Dongbin, one of the Eight Immortals.

“There is a folk method that uses traditional Chinese medicine and talismans to treat diseases, which is called the Through-Blessings technique [Zhouyushu]. The Dream of Golden Millet talisman crafted under the Through-Blessing technique is based on this legend.

“Of course, this talisman is not as effective as Lu Weng’s celadon pillow. It cannot allow a person to live his whole life in a dream, but it can create a dream memory.”

[Wow, I don’t know how powerful it is.]

[Wait a minute, if there is this talisman, I can have sweet dreams.”

[But this talisman can only give you dreams, how can it save Dong Ming?]

An Rugu looked at her watch, waited quietly for the results, and said something to Dong Ming’s parents. “I can only do my best, and everything else depends on fate. I also understand extreme sports. Some people do it for money, but there are also people who do it for the pure spirit of adventure, enjoying the excitement of challenging their limits. These people are not afraid of death at all and are very brave.

“Whether your son can come back safely depends on what choices he makes after his dream. “

Although Dong Ming’s parents didn’t understand what An Rugu was doing, they knew that she had done her best to help, so they nodded quickly and thanked An Rugu.

T/N: Just to add to what An Rugu already explained. The story goes that the great Daoist Lu Weng met a man in an inn. They began talking while the innkeeper cooked yellow grains and millet.

The man lamented about the state of his life—he studied hard when he was young and yet he remained poor and was farming instead of being an official. Lu Weng couldn’t convince him that his life was good as he was healthy and had no pains. So he offered the man his celadon pillow—celadon is a type of pottery—saying he could realize his dreams.

The man lived an entire lifetime in his dreams. Decades passed wherein he climbed the ranks to become prime minister, got acknowledged by the emperor, got accused, was betrayed, got reinstated in power, grew old in glory and honor. He married, saw his children and grandchildren grow up. When he woke up, he realized that his dream didn’t even last long enough for the grains and millet to finish cooking.

The story has become a metaphor about illusory dreams and unrealizable desires.
