[ILivestreamDivination] Chapter 28.6 — Lovers Turn Out to be Cousins

Mengmeng knew the story behind this matter and so immediately walked to her mother, hugging her arm and comforting her, “Don’t be sad, Mom. I’m sure my uncle is doing well somewhere.”

Mengmeng’s mother sighed and calmed down before finishing what she was narrating, “Human trafficking was particularly serious in our place at the time. My younger brother was kidnapped before he could even learn to speak. A kidnapper kills not just one life but a thousand!”

This matter was painful for their whole family, and they spent a lot of effort looking for the child. They’ve asked people to look for him, posted missing person notices, and published it in the newspaper—but he couldn’t be found.

When a child was trafficked, it was already considered a good outcome if they were sold to others who want to have children. Some kidnappers break the child’s legs and make them beg, or cut them up and harvest…

Mengmeng’s mother felt particularly uncomfortable when she thought about this. She always felt that her brother was suffering outside. Whenever she saw the police announcing the results of anti-trafficking movements, she would go and see if her brother was there.

The boyfriend’s family hadn’t known that Mengmeng’s mother had such an experience, and they all sympathized with her.

At this time, the boyfriend’s father blinked, having thought of something. “Actually, I have also been kidnapped. It seemed that the manhunt was fierce at the time, and I was left on the road by the people who took me and I was picked up by my mother.”

The boyfriend asked, surprised and curious, “Such a thing happened? Why didn’t I know this?”

The boyfriend’s father glared at him, “Your grandma only told me about this a few years ago, just before she passed away. I didn’t know about it before that.”

When Mengmeng first heard what her boyfriend’s father said, she originally wanted to comfort him—but for some reason, she suddenly felt that something was wrong.

Mengmeng’s mother, of course, heard all this and looked at her daughter’s boyfriend’s father. She looked him up and down, her eyes slowly widening.

No way? How could there be such a coincidence?

At this time, An Rugu’s voice came from the phone’s speaker: “… Actually, you two are siblings who have been separated for many years.”

Mengmeng’s mother: “!!!”

Boyfriend’s dad: “!!!”

Her words were like thunder exploding in front of everyone, almost knocking them out of their bodies.

Mengmeng’s mother’s hand loosened its grip, and the phone fell to the ground with a ‘thud’. But no one paid attention to the mobile phone. Everyone present was analyzing the meaning of what An Rugu had said.

Mengmeng’s mother and her boyfriend’s father looked at each other for a long time, their pupils reflecting each other’s shocked expressions.

Mengmeng’s mother suddenly broke the silence, “Do you have a black birthmark on your back?!”

“… I have.”

Mengmeng’s father immediately walked up to him and lifted his T-shirt, revealing a black birthmark just under his shoulder.

Mengmeng’s mother burst into tears when she saw this. She rushed forward and hugged Mengmeng’s boyfriend’s father: “… No wonder I felt so kind towards you the first time I saw you!”

The boyfriend’s father had tears in his eyes, it turned out… this was his biological sister?

Mengmeng’s mother cried a lot, and after a long time she calmed down, pushed her daughter’s boyfriend’s father away. She looked at her daughter.

At some point, her daughter had stopped sitting at the sofa and ran to the dining table. She was holding her mobile phone and who could tell what she was thinking.

Her boyfriend, on the other hand, had his head buried in his arms, looking like he didn’t dare to accept this new reality.

… …

Over at the livestream channel, the barrage has exploded.

[Mengmeng’s mother and her boyfriend’s father are biological siblings, so Mengmeng and her boyfriend are… cousins?]

[Holy shit, my wish for all the lovers in the world to finally become brothers and sisters has come true!]

[Oh my god, I just thought they looked similar because they’re a couple, their eyes were both big and lively…]

[Hello, psych ward? Here are a couple of cousins in need of therapy.]

[I heard that blood-related brothers and sisters who did not grow up together will find each other particularly attractive and develop an inexplicable liking for each other after meeting each other. This is scientifically studied and the term is genetic sexual attraction.]

[They look so in love, but they are cousins. They are destined not to be together. I am a little sad.]

[Even if they are sad, there is nothing they can do. They have no problem with their household registration and could legally get married, but can they pass the test of blood ties? It’s too awful.]

[No wonder the host said that fate plays tricks on people. This is a really quite a trick.]

[The host is a master at breaking up marriages. I’m being honest.]

… …

When Mengmeng saw these comments, she couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears streamed down her face. She cried out, “How could this happen??!”

How could her boyfriend whom she was about to marry suddenly become her cousin?

Her boyfriend heard her piteous cry and instinctively wanted to comfort her, but as soon as he took a step, he stepped back.

Ever since they heard that their parents were related by blood, their relationship had been declared dead from a social and ethical perspective.

He was not her boyfriend, he can only be… her cousin. Was he supposed to stand by and watch Mengmeng enter the marriage hall with another man, get married and have children with someone else?

So… what was the difference between this and death?

The light in her boyfriend’s eyes suddenly went out, and he was already determined to die.

Mengmeng’s mother’s eyes were already red watching this scene unfold. The other parents were stunned, not knowing what to do.

Originally, it was a happy event for the in-laws to meet and discuss marriage, and it was even more joyful to unexpectedly find her long-lost brother. However, they couldn’t laugh at all, because the main leads of today’s party were actually …

… …

But in the midst of this sad atmosphere, the boyfriend’s father smiled. He walked over to his son and patted his shoulder. “Son, don’t panic, I want to tell you something.”

The boyfriend raised his head mechanically and stiffly, his eyes were dull and his lips were so pale they were almost white, “What?”

“Actually, you are not my son.”

Boy friend:”!!!”

Other people:”!!!”

Audience in the livestream channel: “!!!”

[Holy shit, there are twists and turns! Is his father’s head a little green?]

[Could it be that the boyfriend of the destined person was also picked up as a child?]

[I think his father lied to comfort him.]

An Rugu saw these comments, picked up the tea cup and took a sip of tea quietly. “There is indeed no blood relationship between the two of them,” she said.

Sure enough, when the boyfriend’s father heard An Rugu’s words, he nodded heavily and said, “You are really good at telling fortunes. Xiao Wei is indeed not my child.”

“Then whose child am I?”

The boyfriend never thought that such a dog blood thing would happen to him—his father was not his father?

T/N: I don’t know about genetic sexual attraction for relatives who haven’t grown up together but there is something called ‘Westermarck Effect‘ which postulates that adults who were raised in a close, sibling-like environment before they were 6 years old fail to develop attraction to each other. I also remember somewhere a study that postulated daughters who are raised closely by their fathers develop puberty much later than their contemporaries with absent fathers. And a different study finding that somehow daughters find their dad’s natural scent ‘unpleasant’ after a certain age. None of these are conclusive AFAIK, but they’re pretty interesting!

I remember that An Rugu’s very first predestined guest, <Time Passes Swiftly Like Flowing Water>, was supposed to be given up for adoption by her parents as a ‘child bride‘. It’s a practice whereby a family would adopt a pre-adolescent daughter as a future bride for one of their pre-adolescent (usually infant) sons, and the children would be raised together. It apparently led to a lot of unsuccessful marriages.
