[ILivestreamDivination] Chapter 2.1 — The First Livestream

As the livestreaming industry became increasingly more profitable, many companies have launched livestreaming platforms. Of the many platforms out there, there were three major ones which could be considered the most powerful—Shark platform was one of them.

Shark platform was established last among the three. Fortunately, it had abundant funds, and many well-known streamers had been recruited and cultivated. The mainstream games, entertainment, and other sections, all have ‘big brother’ or ‘older sister’ streamers, who were at the peak of their popularity.

An Rugu used to only hear about livestreaming, but didn’t have a deep understanding of it. Now, she was interested in doing a livestream herself, so she scanned the homepage of the Shark platform.

She was a new user. On the homepage, there were some livestreams recommended to her by the platform, including those for playing games, singing, dancing, and simply livestreaming outdoors.

The livestreams that were being promoted to the homepage were not much different from each other. She clicked on one and found that the streaming popularity was almost 500,000. The number of comments in the livestreaming was impressive, and often, before she could clearly see what the previous comments said, the new barrage of comments already covered it up.

These livestreams…. they were really hot!

An Rugu thought, if there were so many viewers in her livestream, and some viewers came to the Daoist temple, then the Daoist Temple would not be so deserted.

She made a decision in her heart, not worried at all about the failure of her livestreaming.

It wasn’t that she was arrogant and thought that she would definitely succeed, but because livestreaming was quite a low-threshold activity—unlike investing in commercials which would require a lot of money. Even if it failed, she would only pay the cost of time wasted.

In short, it was an excellent choice for her who has just graduated and did not have sufficient funds.

An Rugu has always been decisive, and when she felt that the idea was feasible, she didn’t hesitate but went directly to learn the operations related to livestreaming.

After finishing the livestreaming tutorial on the Internet, An Rugu downloaded the livestreaming platform and registered an account.

As for the name of the account…

An Ru thought for a while, and entered [Welcome the Sun, Rise from Clouds]1 on the interface.

[Rites and Rituals]: Mountains, forests, rivers, valleys, hills * Can rise from clouds * For wind and rain * See strange creatures * Speak to deities2

After the real-name authentication, her livestreaming was approved.

She pressed the ‘Start Livestream’ button, and the livestream was quietly launched on the Shark platform.

As expected, after one minute of the livestreaming, there was no one in the livestream channel.

Seeing this scene, An Rugu did not rush but stood up from the desk and quietly brewed a cup of Lu’an Leaf tea.

Five minutes after opening the livestream, there was still no one in the channel.

Ordinary people may feel a little awkward sitting alone in front of a computer screen and won’t be able to stand the loneliness. But An Rugu was fine; she often meditated for long periods, and she had long been used to waiting quietly.

And she has calculated—the destined person was soon coming.

… …

The loneliness in the initial stage of streaming was the hardest, and Shark platform knew it. In order to retain new streamers, the platform stipulated a traffic policy for new streamers. As long as the livestream was open for at least half an hour—and the content was reviewed and confirmed to be free of any major issues—then a small ‘push’ will be given, and the livestream will be promoted in the ‘New Streamers’ list.

The New Streamers list was posted in the corner of the screen, and the traffic was undeniably low. However, there were a small number of people who like to watch the nervous and inexperienced appearance of new streamers, or want to cultivate new streamers, so they would come in to watch.

When the 30-minute minimum was over, An Rugu’s livestream appeared at the bottom of the list.

[<Time Passes Swiftly Like Flowing Water> has entered the livestream.]

[<Teach Me How To Do Things> has entered the livestream.]

[<Online Dating Choose Me I Am Super Sweet> has entered the livestream.]

In just one minute, the background data showed that there were already 50 people online in the livestream.

Because of its unique title, this new livestream was the most attractive to audiences among its peers—but also because of the title, that same audience was now very confused.

[What’s this? The page info says ‘only two divinations’, this can’t be a divination livestream?]

[Remove the words ‘can’t be’. It is.]

The audience who clicked into the livestream were all interested in divination, so they chatted on the public screen.

[This is the first time I’ve seen a divination livestream. My impression of divination is only of the master who sets up stalls under the overpass. Good friend, now even fortune-telling has to keep up with the trend of livestreaming?]

[The streamer is accurate?]

[Brave enough to start a livestream… they should be quite accurate.]

[Host, come out and chat, no need to give divinations.]

While everyone was discussing whether the streamer was good at divination, there were also some people who didn’t believe in divination at all, and clicked into the livestream just to refute the host.

[Don’t discuss which is better, they are all scammers. Be careful, I have never met anyone who is accurate.]

[Actually, when I was young, I met a very accurate fortune teller. Your experience is not universal.]

Those who support divination and those who oppose divination expressed their opinions and talked about what they knew about divination in the comments barrage. People on either side of a topic were always prone to quarrel, and these people were no different. The originally empty comment section suddenly became lively.

The popularity of the livestream and the number of people actually online were two different things. The popularity was always much higher than the number of people online. The popularity algorithm was based on factors such as value and amount of gifts given and number of comments posted in the barrage.

Due to the increase in barrage chat, the popularity of the livestream has also increased.

But at this time, a person seemed to think of something and sent a comment: [The host is not here, what’s the use of us talking about this, when they can’t see it. And why is the hosts’ screen black all this time anyway?

Others had originally paid no attention to the screen. But now they took a closer look, and the screen really was black! No one was speaking, and it was very quiet.

  1. 迎日出雲 — Greet Sun, Rise Cloud. The last two characters are the same as the name of the Mountain and Temple ↩︎
  2. These are literal translations of what An Rugu typed but it all means something like if you encounter difficulties or freakish phenomena from any and all aspects of your life, you can seek help from gods and ‘emerge from the clouds’. Her ‘cloud rise’ theme is very consistent. ↩︎
