[DayTheEngagementWasBroken] Chapter 22.3 — A Little Wildcat

The car slowly drove into the basement parking. Fortunately, the elevator leading to the top-floor office was only used by He Jinxing. From beginning to end, except for the driver and Secretary Liu, Gou An was not seen by another person sporting this image from the Beggar Gang.

The office at the top floor was very spacious. How spacious was it?

If it was an ordinary office floor, it could accommodate dozens of people working at the same time.

However, in such a large area, there was only a desk, a sofa, and two bookcases. The desk was quite messy, and the computer was turned on…

There were cigarette butts in the ashtray.

The level of chaos on the desk made Gou An take a second look. Gou Yu’s office desk was very clean and tidy, without even an ashtray. The only extra personal item on it was a photo frame of their family of four.

Secretary Liu seemed to notice her looking at the desk, and his eyelids twitched. He was forced to explain, “Mr. He doesn’t like others touching his desk.”

That’s why it was left in such a mess.

Gou An nodded and turned away calmly. After all, whether it was a mess or not had nothing to do with her.

Behind one of the bookcases was a resting lounge. It didn’t have an outrageous bed like in other domineering CEO novels, but it did have a large sofa, a coffee table, and a tea cabinet that had a very old-fashioned feel to it.

There was also a bathroom.

When He Jinxing went downstairs for his morning meeting, Gou An went in to take a shower. By the time she came out again, clean clothes had already been placed on the sofa: a short shirt and some loose overalls that could be worn loose and wasn’t body-shape dependent at all.

There was also a pair of hotel slippers.

Probably because they didn’t know her shoe size.

Gou An put down the hair dryer once her hair was half dried and opened the door of the lounge. Only then did she realize that someone was already sitting behind the desk.

He Jinxing was wearing gold-rimmed glasses and was in the middle of a video conference with someone on the other side, talking in a language she didn’t know.

He wasn’t smoking.

There was no weird smell of cigarette smoke in the office.

Hearing some small noise she made, the man glanced in her direction, then took off his glasses and rubbed his eyebrows.

The person on the other end of the computer had originally been chattering, but at this moment the voice paused and said something in a questioning tone. The man smiled but did not reply. He hung up the video and then really turned her way.

Half a head had popped out from behind the door to the lounge, with a smooth forehead, and long hair that fell in soft curls looking unusually black and shiny because it was still a little wet.

The two looked at each other; the almond-shaped eyes behind the door were dark and moist.

He Jinxing waved at her.

Then he watched as the little miss stepped out with a hotel’s disposable slippers on her feet, moving towards him a bit like a duck.

As soon as she came closer, he smelled the scent on her body. It was the custom-scented toiletries that he always kept in the bathroom for his own use. The scent was very familiar.

“Hungry?”

Gou An hesitated but nodded.

When He Jinxing called the secretariat to ask Secretary Liu to go and buy breakfast, he had the illusion that he had a small pet in the office.

While waiting for breakfast, Gou An borrowed a mobile phone and called home. She calmly said that she was at a friend’s house, had just woken up, and would go back after breakfast.

Jiang Yuan didn’t have many doubts. She just told Gou An on the phone that her brother Gou Xun had returned home for the National Day holidays and they would be having lunch together at noon. She asked Gou An if there was anything she particularly wanted to eat so that she could arrange for the maid Ade to buy it.

Gou An pretended to act coquettishly to her mother in an attempt to distract her from asking about what happened last night. She then ordered two seafood dishes that she wanted and then hung up.

Turning around, she found that Mr. He—who was always busy with many things—was not working at all. He was sitting on the chair, watching her leisurely while she talked on the phone.

“If I have a daughter like you in the future who lies and then acts like a spoiled brat,” he commented objectively, “I’ll break her legs.”

“…”

Gou An nodded, her face serious, “Fortunately, I am not your daughter.”

He Jinxing: “…”

The two were having a meaningless conversation when Secretary Liu came in to bring them breakfast as well as a piece of news: He Ran had come to the company.

He Jinxing subconsciously looked at Gou An and found that the little miss was bent over beside him, busy opening the container lids of her breakfast. When she saw the pork liver congee, she exclaimed, “Ooh, is there any ginger in this? I don’t eat that.”

She had no reaction at all to the name mentioned by Secretary Liu.

On the contrary, breakfast was clearly more important.

He Jinxing retracted his gaze, “What is he doing here?”

“It seems that the youngest son of the Gou family has returned home, and they want to go to the racetrack together during the holidays. He asked if you could give him the confiscated motorcycle keys—”

Gou An’s younger brother, Gou Xun, was eighteen years old this year, but he did not have a driver’s license yet.

All boys were naturally interested in motorcycles, so the only place where Gou Xun could drive was on a professional racetrack. That was the only place where one could ride a motorcycle legally without a driver’s license.

But the Gou family thought it was very dangerous, so they didn’t quite agree for him to play like this.

Gou An scooped a spoonful of the hot congee. Who knew if it was because she was scalded or because she remembered something unpleasant about ‘congee’—she frowned and said vaguely without raising her head, “Don’t give it to him.”

The racetrack had the most comprehensive protection measures. It was better to ride there than for these boys to secretly ride outside, racing up the mountain side.

He Jinxing turned around and took out He Ran’s motorcycle keys from the drawer next to the coffee table.

Before he could hand it to Secretary Liu, his wrist was scratched by an unruly claw that had stretched out to grab the key.

A red mark appeared on the man’s taut skin.

He Jinxing was stunned; Gou An was equally stunned.

Secretary Liu wished he could disappear right now.

A few seconds later, He Jinxing lowered his eyes and looked at the little miss in front of him, who was only as tall as his chest and exuded the same scent as him.

Her eyebrows drooped and she said pitifully, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.”

He Ran had been waiting for He Jinxing in the reception room on the second-to-highest floor. He came to Heji today not only to get his motorcycle keys but also to test whether what He Jinxing said last night about ‘cancelling his engagement with Gou An’ was true or not.

At this time, he still had an optimistic mentality thinking that what He Jinxing said was just a momentary angry remark from an elder.

After all, abandoning his fiancée and fleeing danger with another woman did seem a bit inappropriate. He may need to go to the Gou family later to sincerely apologize.

He Ran was summoned personally by his uncle to his office.

But the motorcycle key that he came for was not to be seen.

He Ran didn’t waste time asking why because He Jinxing threw him a key to a Ferrari instead and said, “Pay attention to safety.”

He Ran glanced at him twice and saw that he didn’t seem to want to mention what happened last night at Endless Night. Perhaps he was no longer angry.

At this moment, He Ran breathed a sigh of relief, happily took the key, and was about to say goodbye, when he suddenly caught a glimpse of a red mark on the man’s wrist—

He Ran paused in surprise.

Then he looked at his young uncle with a questioning look.

The latter followed his gaze and looked down at his wrist. The scratches were now red, swollen, and raised on his pale skin. The little miss was really cruel.

The man raised his hand and pulled at his tie, then pulled down his sleeves to cover the red marks. He said calmly, “What are you looking at? I picked up a stray cat on my way to work.”

He Ran was no fool.

He even felt that he was going to have a young aunt soon—

With an ambiguous look on his face, he put his hands in his pockets and spoke to his elder, who was really not much older than him, in a teasing tone, “Where is she? Can I meet her? I’ll report to Grandpa in the evening…

“I’ll say that I unexpectedly saw my uncle doing a good deed today. Is our He family becoming more humane?”

“You can’t.”

He Jinxing refused without hesitation.

“The little wild cat is in a bad mood today and is very fierce. She will scratch you to death.”

T/N: I’ve lost track of how many novels I’ve read where the FL takes a shower at the ML’s place and somehow, quite miraculously, there would be waiting for her clothes that fit her perfectly. Shoes too! This author gave Gou An loose overalls and hotel slippers 😂
