[MarriageFirstLoveLater] Chapter 43.1 — A Thousand Twists and Turns

Jian Hang has never considered working abroad, but his unstinting support made her feel warm somewhere in her heart.

And this kind of warmth, even if two people were in bed, their bodies drenched in sweat, they still couldn’t feel this warm.

“I’m not going abroad,” she said. “I want to change my career path.”

She hasn’t really thought about which specific industry to switch over to yet. She was not in a rush. She would wait and see which companies offer her an olive branch—then she would take her time to choose.

Jian Hang half-jokingly said, “Who doesn’t have a dream of becoming a CEO?”

Qin Moling nodded slowly after hearing this, “Don’t be in a hurry, take your time to choose.”

He thought of what his uncle said, so he asked politely, “Which career have you thought about switching to?”

“I haven’t considered it yet.” Of course, there were a few industries that she was not qualified for. “Internet and biopharmaceutical companies—I am an outsider for these types. I don’t have a solid professional knowledge background for it, so I won’t consider them.”

She stepped on his instep with her bare feet again, putting both feet on it.

Qin Moling looked up and saw Jian Hang drinking milk as if nothing had happened.

He was willing to do small things like that for her. This much was nothing; it couldn’t really be counted as spoiling her.

She said last night that she wanted to pursue him, but he didn’t know if she truly meant it or if it was just a momentary whim.

How did she plan to chase him?

He couldn’t sleep last night because of what she said.

Now, it was inevitable that he would have more thoughts about it.

Jian Hang drank half a glass of milk, put the glass down, and picked up the vegetable bacon roll in front of her and ate it. She didn’t usually like this, but she tried it today.

She had put both feet on top of the same instep but they kept sliding down.

Qin Moling felt it, and he stretched out his other foot and nudged her gently with it.

Jian Hang understood what he meant and stepped on both his insteps with her feet, finally stabilizing herself.

The two finished their breakfast in silence.

Jian Hang had forgotten to bring her laptop bag down, “I’ll go upstairs first.”

The scene in the bathroom today made her distracted, and she forgot about such an important thing as her laptop bag.

Qin Moling also had to go up there. He had a video conference earlier and forgot to bring down some important documents.

Those materials needed to be brought to the company.

“Does it take long to hand over work in the venture capital circle?” Qin Moling asked her as they went upstairs.

“Not really. If anyone else came to Yinlin, I would simply hand over the work and just let them do their best. Tan Feng is different.” Because she and Tan Feng were friends, and Tan Feng was her father’s student, she took great care of every detail of the handover in order to saved Tan Feng a lot of trouble later.

After hearing the words ‘Tan Feng is different’, Qin Moling looked at Jian Hang a second or two longer.

Three days before Qin Xing’s birthday, Jian Hang went on a business trip to Suzhou, accompanied by her secretary and Tan Feng.

Early in the morning, Qin Moling arranged for the driver to take Jian Hang to the high-speed rail station.

Before leaving, Jian Hang picked up her watch and was about to put it on her wrist when Qin Moling came out of the cloakroom having already changed his clothes. He stretched out his hand, “Give it to me.”

Jian Hang handed him the watch. Qin Moling took her left hand, put the watch on it, and buckled it slowly.

“Just turn it down if you have any social engagements,” he said.

Jian Hang watched his slender fingers fastening her watch buckle, “I don’t need to go to social events—Tan Feng would be there.”

Qin Moling just murmured ‘hmm’ and didn’t continue the conversation.

His watch was already on, but Jian Hang still asked, “Do you want me to help you put it on?”

Qin Moling took off his watch without saying anything.

She put it on for him, smoothing down the cuffs of his shirt.

The ambiguous atmosphere reached its peak, and no one spoke anymore.

If Jian Hang didn’t need to rush to the high-speed rail station, Qin Moling would have wanted to do things with her.

The two went downstairs together.

The driver put her suitcase in the trunk.

When they got to the yard, Jian Hang stood in front of the car door and glanced at Qin Moling. He had an upright figure and was indeed a sight to behold.

The driver would send Jian Hang off. Qin Moling would drive himself today and so began walking towards his car with the car keys.

Feeling someone’s gaze from behind him, he turned his head suddenly and caught Jian Hang before she could look away.

Qin Moling paused for a second, then turned back and walked towards her.

Jian Hang had already opened the car door, but when she saw him coming over, she didn’t rush to get in.

Qin Moling wasn’t sure whether she wanted a farewell ceremony like other couples did. He put one arm around her waist, leaned forward slightly, and hugged her gently.

Jian Hang took the opportunity to hug his waist.

It was impossible to tell whether this hug was because of love or for some other reason.

But there was really no need to distinguish them.

Because her heart was satisfied.

Two cars drove out of the yard one after the other going in different directions.

… …

In the past few days, Qin Moling has thought carefully and decided that Jian Hang going to Lemeng was a win-win situation.

He immediately called his third uncle, not to seek consent, but to inform him.

“Third Uncle, I asked to Jian Hang. She is planning to change her career. Jian Hang is going to Suzhou today. I will talk to her when she gets back from her business trip.”

Uncle Qin was very pleased to hear this. His efforts that day were not in vain. “We will try our best to meet all her requirements. If Lemeng Strategic Investment Department has Jian Hang…”

Third Uncle was halfway through his words when he was interrupted by Qin Moling, “Since she plans to change her career, it is impossible for her to go to the Strategic Investment Department again.”

“So where are you going to place her?”

“Fourth Division.”

Although he didn’t say the title ‘General Manager’, Uncle Qin already knew his nephew’s plan.

There was a brief silence on the phone.

“Moling, are you planning to divorce Jian Hang?”

“?”

Qin Moling was confused. “Third Uncle, I plan to ask Jian Hang to go to the Fourth Department, not to the divorce registration office.”

“… I know.” Uncle Qin was not in the mood to joke, “You will ask Jian Hang to join the Fourth Division. Isn’t this obviously pushing her into the fire pit?

“Outsiders don’t know what’s going on in the Fourth Division, but don’t you yourself know?

“She is an outsider with no experience in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry. If you parachute her into the Fourth Division, who in the Fourth Division would accept her? If they just pretend to obey but don’t really cooperate with the work, Jian Hang will suffer.

“If the Fourth Division doesn’t make any progress under Jian Hang’s leadership and continues to drag on, won’t you be giving outsiders a chance to laugh at her?”

The financial circle has always had mixed opinions about Jian Hang.

Some said that she got the projects not based on her own abilities, and that the several Merger and Acquisitions projects she completed were all thanks to the team and she just reaped the benefits.

If she were really to be in charge of the Fourth Division, and if the Fourth Division continued its unlucky streak and the market failed to take off, those people would have more excuses to implicate Jian Hang.

Qin Moling was unmoved, “Third Uncle, the Fourth Division is her chance.”

There was still a long way to go from being the General Manager of a Division to being the CEO of a Group.

Since she has the ambition to be a CEO, she has to bear all the risks of failure.

Uncle Qin advised him to think twice, “When Jian Hang goes to the Fourth Division, you two will inevitably quarrel. This can even break up a marriage. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try it.”

Qin Moling said, “Jian Hang and I will not get divorced. If a simple quarrel can lead to a divorce, then let’s get a divorce. There would be nothing to regret.”1

Uncle Qin had nothing more to say. He had already told his nephew the worst possible outcome. If Qin Moling refused to listen and insisted on having his own way, then there was nothing he could do.

“Didn’t you plan to do an internal competition for the Fourth Division GM?”

Qin Moling replied, “No actions taken yet.”

There would be no more.

“It’s settled. If Jian Hang is willing to come to Le Meng, she would be the GM of the Fourth Division.”

T/N: I am changing the title for the head of Lemeng’s Divisions from ‘President’ to ‘General Manager’. It’s the more appropriate job title considering their scope of work.

  1. Qin Moling meant that if a simple quarrel was enough to get a couple to divorce then the relationship is not worth saving in the first place and there would be no regrets. But he believes that he and Jian Hang would not be such a couple. ↩︎
