[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 50.3 — A Birthday Gift for Him

When they arrived in Suzhou City, Luo Qi and He Xu went back to their respective homes.

Luo Qi’s parents were both at home today, and they cooked a sumptuous Suzhou home-cooked meal in preparation for her arrival.

She bought sunflowers; not many, just one.

When she got home, she found two fresh sunflowers already in the vase.

After asking, she found out that her father had given her mother flowers for the first time in seven years—although he only got her two flowers.

Luo Zhiqiu had been very happy recently considering that the company was doing well and his daughter’s heart has found a new home. But he still owed more than nine million yuan, so he was reluctant to buy more flowers. He was afraid that his wife would only feel distressed, so he just bought her two.

Before his daughter entered the house, he had just filled the vase with water and put the flowers in it.

Luo Qi removed the simple wrapping paper on the sunflowers and put it into the vase together with the flowers her father bought.

Jiang Yifang looked at her daughter and couldn’t hide her joy. She was happy because of the flowers but more so because her daughter had gained a little weight. “You finally have some fat on your face.”

Luo Qi took a spray bottle and sprayed some water on the flowers a few times. “I gained 2 jin recently.”

She was now 90 jin. She had to keep an eye on her weight. They would be taking wedding photos early next month.

“With your height, even if you gain ten jin, you will still be thin. Wash your hands and eat quickly.” Jiang Yifang filled half a bowl of rice for her daughter, “Eat more.”

Even before, her daughter has never eaten an entire bowl of rice; sometimes even half a bowl was too much.

Before Luo Qi started eating, she took out her cell phone, opened it, and showed her father the record of transferring money to Cui Peng.

“Where did you get so much money? Who did you borrow it from?”

“Jiang Shenghe paid it back for me.”

Luo Zhiqiu blamed himself, “How could I borrow his money?”

Luo Qi reassured her parents, “This is not a loan between him and me. At the time, I could only ask him for the money, and I didn’t feel any burden at all. When you were sick back then, the doctor who performed the surgery was found by Jiang Shenghe. If I owe him anything, it wouldn’t be money.”

She said with a smile, “I’m working in Ruipu now. I’ll make money for Ruipu in the future, and I’ll make this amount back several times over.

“He and I are going to get married; this is not just temporary  love. We will be taking wedding photos next month.”

Jiang Yifang was a little confused at this development. He hasn’t met them as her parents yet. “What is this marriage process?”

Luo Qi picked up the water glass and took a sip, “…it’s just the opposite of the normal marriage process.”

“…”

Luo Zhiqiu didn’t care whether the marriage process was orthodox or not. A wedding date had been set before and look what happened. As long as his daughter was happy, he was happy too. “I think it’s quite fashionable.”

Luo Qi smiled at him, “Yeah, dad, I think it’s fashionable too.”

She opened the photo album again, “Mom, look at the wedding dresses I chose. This is just for the wedding photos. Jiang Shenghe bought five sets, and he actually helped me put them on.”

Jiang Yifang looked at her daughter’s smile in the photo: her joy almost spilled over from the screen. Seeing this, she didn’t care anymore about the man properly meeting her parents first for an engagement.

Luo Qi poured drinks for her parents and the family clinked glasses.

She said, “A happy wedding to me.”

Jiang Yifang laughed and poked her daughter’s head, “Look at you, you’re drunk even if you haven’t drunk anything.”

… …

After eating too much, Luo Qi took her parents for a walk outside.

She walked in the middle, holding her father’s arm in one hand and her mother in the other.

When she was a child, she also walked in the middle like this. At that time, her father and mother would hold her wrists and pull her up high.

As they walked, they talked about the third uncle and third aunt. Her mother mentioned that the 10th of next month would be her third uncle’s fiftieth birthday. It wasn’t going to be a big event, but they invited relatives to get together.

Luo Yu and Luo Xin would definitely come back for it.

“Do you have time to come back for it? It doesn’t matter if you don’t have time. Just remember to call your third uncle and give your greetings.”

“I should be free. I’ll be back that week to take wedding photos.”

“Then, do you want to take Jiang Shenghe with you?”

“Will take him.” He would definitely want to go.

… …

She made a video call with Jiang Shenghe before going to bed and told him about her third uncle’s birthday.

“That’s Luo Yu’s dad.”

Jiang Shenghe began to think about what gifts to prepare and asked if her third uncle had any hobbies.

Luo Qi lay on the pillow, with her mobile phone screen horizontally in front of her, “Ah? I haven’t said yet that I’ll take you with me.”

Jiang Shenghe smiled, knowing she was teasing him, but still followed her words and asked, “Then, will you take me with you?”

Luo Qi kept nodding until the bun on top of her head was shaken loose.

She had tied up her hair earlier because she applied a facial mask, but it wasn’t needed anymore so she simply pulled off the hair tie.

She was no longer as reserved as before when talking to Jiang Shenghe.

… …

After the video call ended, Jiang Shenghe started preparing gifts. Luo Qi’s third uncle liked to go fishing; he planned to buy a better fishing equipment for her third uncle.

The thing was, Jiang Shenghe himself seldom went fishing. Although he would sometimes go out to sea with friends to join in the fun, this was less than twice a year, and he didn’t know much about fishing rods.

He Xu, however, was keen on fishing. He met He Xu in Haicheng during the National Day holiday last year and he mentioned that he often went fishing with his friends.

Jiang Shenghe sent him a message: [Help recommend a fishing rod that I can give as as gift.]

Those who could make Jiang Shenghe personally give gifts should be important elders.

He Xu: [As a gift to your father-in-law?]

Jiang Shenghe: [A gift to Luo Yu’s father for his fiftieth birthday.]

“…”

[Okay, I’ll buy it for you.]

He Xu now felt that he must have owed the Luo family in his previous life. He was already taking Luo Qi to explore the market in the south, and now he also had to prepare birthday gifts for Luo Yu’s father.

T/N: Poor ‘villain’ He Xu 😂😂😂

Jin or catty is a complicated unit of measurement so I just opted to leave it as is. It’s around 500 grams but can be as much as 604 grams. It can be divided into 10 or 16 tael, depending on use. I’ve read several translations where the FL says she weighs this much kilos, and I can only presume it’s the jin/catty issue at play because otherwise she’d be as thin as a 12 year old with that weight.

If you’re enjoying my translations, do consider buying me ko-fi. Thanks for your support! ❤️
