[DayTheEngagementWasBroken] Chapter 21.1 — Ye Lang: The Already-Captivated Man

She never doubted him.

No matter which world it was, the supporting characters that the author has not yet come around to describing were actually well and alive—breathing, eating, and sleeping every minute and every second.

From Gou An’s perspective, she was a living person.

In the original novel, the male supporting character He Ran was a childhood sweetheart and a close friend that the female supporting character Gou An could trust and marry.

But her bodyguard Ye Lang was the person to whom her romantic heart had been entrusted.

From ancient times to the present, there had been many stories about the extraordinary love between the daughters of noble families and the stray servants who were born in poverty and rolled around at the bottom of society. The Titanic sank to the bottom of the sea with a great fanfare, and the ripples it created shook the hearts of countless innocent girls from noble families.

Gou An herself could not escape this catastrophe.

In fact, due to moral issues (or other issues), she and Ye Lang had not clearly been together. At best, it was probably just ambiguous. However, the person ‘Ye Lang’ occupied a very important place in Gou An’s life.

She had already forgotten when and why Ye Lang was inserted by her father in her life.

He was a man of few words and apart from a handsome face and a great body, he had almost no presence, so Gou An didn’t pay any attention to him at first and treated this person who suddenly appeared around her as air.

Later, Gou An became madly jealous of Lu Wan. This matter turned from an obsession to a demon in her heart. At night, in her nightmares, she would ask herself, “Why does she always get the best?” and then wake up in tears…

When she opened the bedroom door, she would find that silent figure always standing guard in the dim light of the corridor.

When he heard the door open, he would turn around, his eyes clear, look at the wet eyes of the bewildered young lady holding the hem of her nightgown, and ask, “Did you have a nightmare?”

The tone was cool and calm.

But it can magically bring Gou An back to reality from the clutches of the nightmare in an instant, like an addictive medicine with no side effects.

At that time, Miss Gou’s brain would short-circuit, and she would throw herself into the bodyguard’s arms with tears, muttering and cursing the unfairness of fate.

This later became a daily routine. Gou An seemed to have found the most silent tree hole, and from then on she would hold on to this tree hole wherever she went.

She also became more and more willing to spend more time on the tree hole.

For example, at one banquet, she accidentally saw that the bodyguard who never seemed to have much interest in anything found a takeaway box and took a certain brand of butterfly cakes from the dessert counter.

Somehow, this butterfly cake later became a must-have item for those who live in Gou’s house.

If the supply was ever cut off, Miss Gou—the vicious female supporting character—would be furious.

This blatant favoritism was not disguised at all and eventually became a big deal… Everyone knew that Gou An had found a new pet after she lost her beloved cat that looked like a banana—and Miss Gou couldn’t bear to let this one go.

Until one day, sitting at the table for afternoon tea, Gou An flipped her long hair and said lazily, “It would be nice if Lu Wan got unlucky at least once. So let’s teach her a lesson, shall we?”

The bodyguard standing behind her rarely reacted. He lowered his head slightly and looked at her calmly.

After a long while, he said, “Okay.”

Gou An smiled at him with pursed lips.

At that time she naively thought, ‘how great it is, this person would never resist me, he really treats me the best.’

Unfortunately, until the moment she was thrown into prison and made to suffer by the police, Gou An resented everyone except her parents—but she never once blamed Ye Lang.

To this day, she still believed that Ye Lang was a special existence in the whole chaotic original storyline.

The tube-shaped building had its own special vitality in the morning.

At seven o’clock in the morning, when people in most parts of Jiangcheng were still asleep, those living in the tube-shaped buildings in Zhaipu District have already started their day—it takes half an hour to ride an e-sharing bicycle to the nearest subway station, so they have to get up a little earlier than ordinary people.

Birds fluttered their wings, making ‘cooing’ sounds as they flew by. People who need to set up stalls downstairs to sell breakfast and do some small business have already done so… They didn’t shout their wares but simply greeted their neighbors who also got up early to go to work and took care of their breakfast business.

Yesterday’s rain made the bluestone road wet, and the fishy aroma of the soil mixed with the smell of brine from tea eggs wafted in through the window.

Gou An was awakened by the smell of tea eggs.

Her stomach growled. She opened her eyes and was surprised to find herself in a completely unfamiliar place.

The early morning sun shone directly from outside through the dilapidated windows; there were no curtains.

Next to the mottled wall stood an extremely simple wooden cabinet that should by all rights be in a museum.

Beneath her was a wooden spring bed. When she turned her head, she could see an inconspicuous spider web at the head of the bed, probably newly woven.

“…”

Gou An was frightened, turned over, and sat up. The bed made a loud creaking sound as if it could not bear the weight.

–Where am I?

With her dazed eyes wide open, she heard the sound of water splashing in the toilet. When she turned her head to look, the sound of water stopped, and a tall, blurry figure appeared behind the closed toilet door.

Miss Gou, who had no idea what was going on, was startled and reflexively lay back on the bed. She covered herself with the quilt up to her neck and closed her eyes.

The toilet door opened.

Someone came out of the door.

Gou An could feel that person was looking at her.

She held her breath for a few seconds, and when the gaze on her face finally moved away, she gritted her teeth and quietly opened one eye: she saw a tall, young, obviously male body with his back to her standing not far from the bed.

He was only wearing a pair of jeans which were splashed in places with water. Down his back, several drops of water gathered into trickles and flowed down along the curves of his muscles…

Finally, it converged into a small stream and disappeared into the depression between the waist and his jeans.

The height was about 1.83 meters. At this moment, he casually wiped the water stains on his upper body with a worn-out towel then rubbed his wet, black hair roughly like a wild dog. He turned around—

Gou An quickly closed her eyes.

“Don’t pretend to be asleep when you’re awake.”

A low, hoarse voice suddenly sounded in the silent house.

… The voice sounded familiar.
