[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 55.4 — Day 19: Drunk

Cheng Liu and Feng Shi, these two bosses, had drunk so much that the private box was full of the stench of alcohol.

It was not until Feng Shi fell down completely that Cheng Liu stood up, swaying a little. She said, “Call his assistant in and have him taken away.”

“Okay, senior sister. I’ll take you home now.” He Bai stretched out his hand to help Cheng Liu.

Cheng Liu nodded, “Go home.”

It was rare for her to drink so much, but despite this, she was still steady on her feet. She got on the passenger seat directly, fastened her seat belt quickly, reclined the seat and lay back. The whole process was extremely smooth, and He Bai couldn’t find an opportunity to help.

He Bai drove to Villa No. 6. He saw that Cheng Liu had fallen asleep, but she woke up again at some point.

He casually asked Cheng Liu who was sitting in the passenger seat, “Senior sister, where did you get the watch you are wearing? I didn’t see it when I went out with you earlier.”

Cheng Liu opened her eyes and gazed at the roof of the car. She reached out and touched her watch. Suddenly she smiled. It was given to her by her beloved!

“Do you want it?” Cheng Liu was groggy and thought that He Bai had taken a fancy to her watch. “No, you can’t have it.”

He Bai: “…. I don’t want it, I’m just asking.”

Cheng Liu felt dizzy from all the alcohol she drank, thought of He Bai’s responsibility, so she reminded him, “Drive well.”

He Bai: “…”

He was driving his own car. When they arrived outside the villa, the gate’s electronic security couldn’t recognize the license plate, so he had to get out of the car to enter the password manually.

When He Bai walked to the gate of Villa No. 6, just as he was pressing the password, Cheng Liu also got out of the car. She stood by the car with a groggy mind and shook her head to try to wake up.

… …

After returning from the press conference, Ji Chaozhou has been following the livestream. The Cheng Liu that appeared in the camera or the Cheng Liu at work, both were very different from the one he usually saw. These Cheng Liu were always calm, as if everything was under control.

He captured the last scene of Cheng Liu smiling boldly at the camera, with her face tilted to one side and eyebrows raised. He looked quietly at the picture on his phone and couldn’t help but reach out his fingertips to touch her smiling face but then quickly withdrew his hand, exercising restraint.

Ji Chaozhou exited the photo album of his phone and went to Weibo to monitor the development of Shenyin’s situation only to see a large number of netizens saying that the watch on Cheng Liu’s wrist was given to her by He Bai.

A subtle sense of displeasure grew in his heart.

He thought it was just a tightness in his chest.

Ji Chaozhou originally thought that Cheng Liu would come back soon after the press conference, but he sat in the living room for a long time and she still hasn’t come back.

It wasn’t until eleven o’clock in the evening that there was the noise of a car engine outside.

Ji Chaozhou hesitated for a moment but still went out. After all, she should return his watch to him.

… …

After He Bai opened the villa gates, he turned around and saw that Cheng Liu had also gotten out of the car, so he did not drive the car in anymore but instead reached out to help her.

Before Cheng Liu could react, the gates of the villa next door opened, and Ji Chaozhou came out from inside. He looked straight at these two people standing by the car, very close to one another, and his eyes fell on their hands.

When Cheng Liu saw Ji Chaozhou, fireworks began going off in her mind. She subconsciously wanted to go forward, but she could smell the alcohol on her body.

After thinking for a while, she retracted her foot and smiled at him from a distance, “Neighbor, good evening.”

He Bai was holding Cheng Liu’s arm with one hand. Hearing her politely calling Ji Chaozhou ‘neighbor’, he felt inexplicably happy. It seemed that they were not close after all.

Cheng Liu herself felt that she couldn’t stand the stench of alcohol on her body, and she didn’t want to affect Ji Chaozhou in the same way. She walked directly towards Villa No. 6 and waved to him, “Go to bed early, good night.”

He Bai also nodded to Ji Chaozhou politely, then helped Cheng Liu and followed her into the villa.

Ji Chaozhou stared at He Bai’s hand holding on to Cheng Liu’s arm for a long time, and just as the two of them were about to go inside the gate, he said, “Cheng Liu.”

Cheng Liu instinctively stopped, “Yeah.”

“Your coat is still here with me,” Ji Chaozhou said slowly.

Hearing this, He Bai lowered his head, and one couldn’t see his face clearly.

Cheng Liu’s mind was groggy. All she could think of was how to stay away from Ji Chaozhou so as not to affect him with her smell. She should have stopped drinking early if she had known  this would happen. “Can I leave it with you first?”

“Senior sister, I’ll get it for you.” He Bai looked up and smiled, “What do you think, Mr. Ji?”

Cheng Liu was about to refuse, but Ji Chaozhou had already turned back towards his villa and said in a cold tone, “Let her get it herself tomorrow.”

T/N: Cheng Liu is not being extra nutty here, baijiu has a distinctly overwhelming smell. It’s one of the things non-Chinese have trouble getting used to when trying baijiu since the clear alcohol makes one instinctively expect a clean taste/smell like vodka. But like anything else, quality varies. The high end ones tend to have more complex, refined, herb-y aromas and less like ‘industrial paint thinner.’
