T/N: The text actually says ‘their 16th year adult birthday celebration’ which was why they had to hold hands and give a speech together, but I’m thinking the author forgot this detail because later in the story a collective coming-of-age banquet is hosted for children from wealthy families who turn 18, not 16. 

Also, the text implies that He Ran is a year or so older than Gou An because he’s graduating from college while Gou An is a sophomore. And when Gou An came of age, He Ran was not a celebrant. Anyway, Gou An is definitely 20 years old in the story, and He Ran a little older.
