[FromTheDayTheEngagementWasBroken] Chapter 10.3 — Don’t Use Honorifics

Gou An really didn’t understand why He Jinxing was angry.

The white smoke of cigarette drifted in from the window, and Gou An sneezed, her nose itchy.

He Jinxing put out his cigarette without hesitation and said to He Ran, who was busy greeting his white moonlight by the hospital bed, “You will give the keys to your motorcycle to Secretary Liu later.”

At this sudden and unexpected punishment, He Ran thought there was something wrong with his ears and turned his head in confusion.

He Jinxing said expressionlessly, “When you learn to ride safely, then I will return the keys to you.”

He Ran: “???????”

He Ran: “But I wore a helmet?!!”

Next to him, Gou An, who was rubbing her itchy nose, had no idea why Mr. He suddenly got angry, but she was very happy with this result. After all, He Ran was so embarrassed…

It was worth living to see this.

She put the helmet in her hand on the sofa, then pressed down on the hem of her pleated skirt. The wind had blown hard all the way here, and her thighs were cold all over.

On their way here, He Ran was eager to get a look at how Lu Wan was doing. The motorbike had gone very fast. She was sitting in the back and had to hold on to He Ran with one hand to prevent herself from falling off the bike, and she also had to hold down her short skirt with the other hand to prevent herself from being exposed to everyone on the road.

He Ran originally installed that hump on the back seat of that motorbike specifically to prevent from having to carry passengers, and the bulging hard edges pressed directly against her buttocks, causing real discomfort.

It was madness! She never wanted to ride a motorcycle ever again.

Of course, the heroine was happy—after all, she had a Maybach bring her here.

Gou An sighed, looking with envy at the pale and sickly yet somehow even more beautiful Lu Wan sitting up on the hospital bed.

Lu Wan noticed her gaze and raised her head. The two looked at each other. Lu Wan seemed to have just noticed that there was an uninvited guest like Gou An in the room… maybe it was from pure fear or maybe it was her unfaltering gaze at this moment, but the scene of Gou An taking revenge on her after that cat died in the cruise last time——

The poor heroine became even more pale.

“He Ran said you were sick, so I just came to take a look,” Gou An said without any emotion.

The hero and second male lead are both here. I can’t possibly do anything to you. What do you want to show when you look like you’re about to faint at the first sight of me?

After He Ran arrived, Lu Wan had indeed occupied all of his attention.

Probably out of pity for her—ignored by her established fiancé—He Jinxing took Gou An out of the non-lethal Shura field inside the ward.

… Well, any opportunity for the male lead to say one less word to the female lead would be good.

Gou An followed He Jinxing to the corridor outside the ward.

The two of them didn’t chat.

The man walked to the end of the corridor, holding a cigarette in his fingers. He didn’t light it. He just lowered his head and frowned as he typed on his cell phone. He was probably directing his loyal subordinates to charge forwards in whichever strategic areas. She thought for a while and said considerately, “Mr. He, this is not a no-smoking area.”

The person whose name was called looked up.

Against the light, Gou An felt that the way he raised the corners of his lips was mocking, revealing his white canine teeth.

“Why, do you like second-hand smoke?”

There was no emotion or anger in his voice.

Gou An’s hair stood on end, and she shook her head blankly—

She has had rhinitis since a child, and she always wanted to sneeze when she smelled cigarette smoke. She hated it when He Ran smoked. She once wanted him to quit, but he only asked her if there was anything wrong with her head.

… Anyway, He Ran hasn’t been very nice to her all these years, this piece of shit.

While Gou An’s thoughts were running wildly everywhere, He Jinxing had already crushed the unlit cigarette and thrown it into the trash can, “You followed here because?”

I wanted to cause mayhem and destruction between you and Lu Wan.

“I came to see Lu Wan. You don’t know, but I feel a little guilty for her,” Gou An said. “I heard that she put a lot of effort into getting the first place in the Department opening exam. Originally, He Ran asked me to give way to her, but I got angry and I refused, but I didn’t expect that she would end up ill from exhaustion.”

She was like a walking, talking tieguanyin tea1—fresh, natural, and oh, so sweet.

He Jinxing didn’t expose her little trick. He chuckled and asked, “So that Department opening exam, you took first place then?”

Gou An seemed a little embarrassed and said, “Yeah.”

“And the scholarship money the He family gave to the school ended up being your pocket money.”

Now Gou An was really a little embarrassed but also a little proud. She raised her chin slightly and looked at the man, “Can’t I have this? I relied on my strength… are you unhappy?”

“Don’t use honorifics.”2

“?”

“Let’s go.” He Jinxing put the phone back into his pocket, “I’ll take you home. Don’t mess around here anymore.”

Without even returning to the ward to say ‘goodbye’ to the people inside, they went straight out to the parking lot.

Gou An climbed into the passenger seat of the Maybach. The driver seemed to be missing for some reason. He Jinxing drove the car himself, and he also answered a phone call during the process.

It was He Ran calling, asking his Young Uncle where Gou An was.

The man calmly turned on the speaker in the car and held the steering wheel with one hand. He glanced at the young miss sitting in the passenger seat who was silent and had her head down. She had long eyelashes and was very well-behaved.

He curled up the corners of his lips silently.

“I took her away.”

There was silence on the other side of the phone, not sure if it was because of confusion or shock.

T/N: The author’s notes for this chapter is ‘It’s starting! it’s starting!’ 😂

I think He Jinxing was texting the driver to make himself scarce as part of his plans to ‘take away’ Gou An kekeke.

It’s hard to convey but you should bear it in mind because the text itself will point it out many times—He Jinxing does not speak formally at all. Contrary to his powerful aura, he is very casual and laid-back in speech, with a lot of interjections and emphasis. ah, le, ma, ba, la, etc. These sounds don’t specifically mean anything, they’re called modal particles—they add ‘flavor’ to the sentence.

His speech pattern, plus the way he is always half-smiling, makes people lower their guard until he goes in for the kill. Gou An always falls for it haha.

  1. He Jinxing is the big wolf while Gou An is obviously the little rabbit that will fall into his clutches 🤭
