[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 40.1 — Day 14: Full Network Livestreamed Wall-Climbing

When Cheng Liu said this, she had her hands on top of the wall and was looking down at Ji Chaozhou with bright eyes, her face filled with undeniable expectation.

Perhaps the early morning light was too dazzling.

Ji Chaozhou deliberately turned his eyes away and did not look at the person perched on top of the wall. He lowered his head and began watering the flowers without saying anything.

Cheng Liu simply slipped her leg over the wall and landed neatly beside Ji Chaozhou. She explained the reason for her question directly and enthusiastically, “I will be on a show tomorrow and I need to buy clothes. Can you accompany me to choose?”

Ji Chaozhou’s eyes fell on her—she’s wearing the same style of clothes she’s worn every day since he met her. Even the color hadn’t changed.

“…”

It made people really worry about the state of her wardrobe.

Ji Chaozhou paused, moved two steps to the side, and widened the distance between them. He lifted the watering pot and asked in a low voice, “When are you going?”

“We can go any time,” Cheng Liu responded cheerfully.

The neighbor was kind-hearted and willing to help others. She was happy that her future sweetheart has such a noble character.

Ji Chaozhou looked at her sideways and said softly, “Water the seedlings first.”

“Okay.” Cheng Liu ran to the left to get the ugly red watering pot and filled it with water.

She never again took out the watering pot that Ji Chaozhou had given her. She kept it at home like a treasure, using it to water the fruit seedlings in the No. 6 front yard, completely ignoring Ji Chaozhou’s original intention.

“What program are you going to participate in?” Ji Chaozhou asked her in the car. An awards banquet required a different dress than a meeting in a conference room.

Cheng Liu was driving. When the traffic light ahead turned red, she opened WeChat on her phone and showed the message to Ji Chaozhou. “It’s this.”

Ji Chaozhou took the phone. He looked at the name of the program on it and was slightly surprised. It was the same program that Yun Fei mentioned to him before .

The people invited to this program were generally companies that needed publicity.

But whether in the industry or among the common public, the reputation of Shenyin Technology did not need publicity. He still remembered what he heard on a roadside advertising screen before. The host said that the founder of Shenyin did not like to ‘show’ her face.

“Why do you suddenly want to participate in this show?” Ji Chaozhou asked Cheng Liu.

Cheng Liu said casually, “Director Li, the one who sold us our villas, was kicked out by his wife from their bedroom because of this show, so he asked me to take his place.”

She didn’t tell him the truth: that she wanted to use this show to tell him things about her and also introduce her family background while she’s at it.

Ji Chaozhou was not interested in other people’s gossip, so he was about to put Cheng Liu’s phone away.

The green light in front of them came on. Cheng Liu released the brake and stepped on the accelerator. Ji Chaozhou was jolted with the car’s movement and the phone slipped from his palm. When he grabbed it to prevent it from falling, his thumb touched the screen and he exited the WeChat message of the program director’s assistant.

Ji Chaozhou lowered his eyes and easily saw the name on the message box pinned at the top of the WeChat main interface: Boyfriend.

His eyes became cold almost instantly—but then he couldn’t help but feel startled when he saw the profile picture.

It was his WeChat avatar.

Cheng Liu was still clueless, driving beside him, excitedly thinking about how to show off her love intentionally or unintentionally during tomorrow’s program recording.

Ji Chaozhou didn’t react; he pursed his lips and pressed the side button to turn the screen off, put the phone into the storage compartment, and pretended he hadn’t seen anything. The phone seemed a little hot to the touch, and the heat seemed to have seeped from the pads of his fingers all the way to the tips of his ears.

He turned his head and looked out the car window as if nothing was wrong. His hands dropped in front of his knees, and his fingertips were slightly curled.

He didn’t understand why she gave him that display name.

… …

Cheng Liu didn’t go to the shopping mall they went to before. She heeded to a shopping mall with women’s clothing on the first floor.

After parking the car, Cheng Liu came out with her phone. She originally wanted to check the time, but when she clicked on the screen, it opened to the main interface of WeChat, and she panicked instantly.

She threw a quiet glance at Ji Chaozhou. He didn’t seem to have any special reaction. Perhaps he hadn’t seen it. But then again, he might have.

Cheng Liu thought hard for a moment and finally decided to explain first—just in case he had seen it—so as not to leave a bad impression of herself in his mind.

She opened her phone, her movements deliberate so as to show it to Ji Chaozhou, and then pretended to have just discovered the matter. “Ah. This was from when I recognized the wrong person before, but I forgot to change the display name after.”

Ji Chaozhou stopped, his beautiful amber eyes looked at Cheng Liu quietly for a moment, and then he asked, “What display name?”

He hadn’t seen it!

Young President Cheng thought this was very good—this way, she wouldn’t have to change his display name on her phone. Maintaining calm on the surface, she waved her hand casually, “Nothing important.”

As soon as she said this, Cheng Liu felt that the surrounding air had become a bit colder, but Ji Chaozhou had already turned around and was now walking towards the mall. She could only follow him quickly.

… …

The first floor of the mall was full of women’s clothing, so they didn’t need to go upstairs.

For the first time, Cheng Liu was seriously thinking about clothes for herself, but she really didn’t know how to match pieces. She usually just picked up something that she thought looked good.

Ji Chaozhou stood silently in front of the rows of clothes, choosing items for her.

There was no need to wear formal attire for this kind of show, but being too casual like Cheng Liu usually looked was also not good.

The store clerk looked at the handsome young man carefully studying each item of clothing and recommended something, “This black skirt is suitable for socializing in spring and summer. It can be worn in daily life. With your girlfriend’s height and long legs, it will definitely suit her.”

Cheng Liu was referred to by this clearly insightful clerk as ‘girlfriend’ and got so excited that she immediately said, “Buy it!”

“We’re not boyfriend and girlfriend.” Ji Chaozhou glanced at Cheng Liu next to him and said coldly, “The material is thin and would be easy to tear.”

This one in front of him was already this big and still came home with pen marks on her cuffs. If this dress was worn by someone who liked to climb the wall, he didn’t know if this dress would survive for even a single day.

“Then I won’t buy it!” Cheng Liu immediately changed her mind, feeling that everything Ji Chaozhou said was right.

The clerk looked at the cold and handsome young man, and then moved her eyes to Cheng Liu, whose face was suffused with joy. She was confused—they were not a couple. Were they brother and sister then? They didn’t look at all alike, although they were both very good-looking.
