[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 39.1 — Day 13 (Love Rival)

There was no way to eat the dessert.

Cheng Liu should have gone back to her villa, but she didn’t move. She said she was hungry and then picked up her phone, “I’m ordering takeout. What do you want to eat?”

Ji Chaozhou sat on the sofa and opened a book, “Whatever.”

Cheng Liu felt her spirits lift.

It’s here! That famous casual phrase!

In the cooperative business circle she frequented, Cheng Liu has long heard that when wives said that casual phrase ‘whatever’, then the one thing they must not do was actually treat matters as casual, otherwise they would be in for a storm!

Unexpectedly, one day, she—Cheng Liu—would also hear these words.

Young President Cheng immediately straightened up. There were so many business partners who had fallen into a history of blood and tears, so she must choose her path carefully.

Cheng Liu ordered a few light dishes according to Ji Chaozhou’s taste. As for her, she loved meat.

After ordering takeout, she had nothing more to do, so she lay her head on the table and looked at Ji Chaozhou, who was sitting on the sofa.

His head hung down slightly, with a few strands of hair falling from his forehead. His profile was very smooth and delicate. His fingers were holding the spine of the book. The book looked a bit old—the pages were yellow and the font on the cover was also old. The slender and white fingertips looked even more graceful in contrast.

The whole picture was so lovely.

Cheng Liu felt that every time she looked at him, she fell deeper and deeper.

Ji Chaozhou turned over a page of the book but did not read much of the content. An unignorable gaze was on him from such a short distance away; it was as if it had physical substance and was burning hot on his skin.

Without turning his head, he knew that Cheng Liu was looking at him.

Her pupils were extremely dark, and when she looked at people, she always gave him the illusion of being focused and affectionate.

Ji Chaozhou lowered his eyelashes and pressed the page lightly with his fingertips, trying his best to ignore her gaze. The lines of black words on the page seemed to blur before his eyes, making it difficult for him to see clearly.

Fortunately, the doorbell rang outside, interrupting the strange atmosphere in the living room.

Cheng Liu stood up immediately and said, “The takeout is here, I’ll get it.”

As soon as she left the living room, Ji Chaozhou looked up, and the fingers that were originally pressing on the page of the book moved slightly, leaving wrinkle marks on the page.

Soon, Cheng Liu came in with two bags of delivery. She opened the bags, placed the food on the dining table, and called Ji Chaozhou to come over for dinner.

She talked a lot over dinner, mostly talking about interesting things she had encountered in the past. It was not annoying. Sometimes Ji Chaozhou would even stop his chopsticks involuntarily and listen to her words.

Those were things he had never experienced before in his quiet life—strange and interesting. But what’s even more interesting was the other person’s dazzling eyebrows and brilliant smile.

But every time this happened, Cheng Liu would turn the conversation back to the meal. By the time Ji Chaozhou realized it, he had already finished the meal without him knowing it.

His stomach, which was used to being empty, was now filled, and the stinging pain that was always present seemed to have disappeared.

Cheng Liu packed up all the dishes and chopsticks on the dining table and prepared to take them out and throw them away. “I’m going back first.”

She didn’t plan to stay here any longer; her purpose of having dinner with him was achieved.

Ji Chaozhou was startled, and then said, “Close the door behind you.”

He stood up, left the living room ahead of Cheng Liu, and walked to the bedroom.

Cheng Liu raised her eyebrows, looked at his retreating back and said, “Good night, see you tomorrow.”

Ji Chaozhou walked into the bedroom and stood behind the closed door without moving. He could hear the sounds in the living room getting farther and farther, and finally disappeared completely.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later, when the lights on the second floor next door came on, that he slowly withdrew his gaze, lowered his eyes and leaned against the door, wondering what he had been thinking.

After Cheng Liu returned to her own villa, she originally planned to settle down and work seriously, but Director Li called and complained to her.

“Young President Cheng, my life is miserable!” Director Li sounded extremely aggrieved on the other end of the phone. “It’s been almost three days and my wife is still angry.”

If Cheng Liu had received such a call in the past, she would have definitely found a reason to hang up, but today was different from the past. Everything these middle-aged business partners were going through could be things she encountered in the future.

So Cheng Liu asked seriously, “Director Li, what happened?”

After hearing this question, Director Li immediately began to express his bitterness. “I was invited to participate in a program two days ago. I don’t know where the rumors came from, it’s going around that I fell in love with the female star in it. I was kicked out of the bedroom and my wife hasn’t talked to me for several days. I swear I just glanced at her and nothing else!”

“You have a wife, and you still look at other people?” Cheng Liu was surprised. If she had Ji Chaozhou as her husband, she would never look at another man again!

“No, I really didn’t have any such idea!” Director Li said painfully, “I just thought that female star looked a bit familiar, and I couldn’t remember why for a while. My wife insists that I like her because she is young and beautiful.”

Cheng Liu thought for a while. Asked: “Which female star is this?”

Director Li was surprised and regretfully slapped his thigh. “It’s that Yun Fei! I’ve seen her on TV before but never in person. I didn’t react when I was recording the program that day, I just looked at her at little.”

“You think she looks like your wife?” Cheng Liu understood.

Director Li was not very happy to hear this. “What does it mean to look like my wife? She looks like her in two or three parts, but you can’t say that she does. My wife is unique.”

“The fact is that you have taken another look at her,” Cheng Liu said mercilessly. “And your wife is still angry.”

Director Li sighed, “If I had known this was going to happen, I wouldn’t  have participated in that show. I just thought that traffic is king now, and I can promote my company more by going on the show.”

“Then, what are you doing now to fix this?” Cheng Liu inquired about Director Li’s solution—just in case.

“I kneel down.” Director Li rubbed his aching knees and sighed.

Cheng Liu made a mental note: she must not kneel down in the future—it was useless. It’s been three days and it still hasn’t worked.
