[MarriageFirstLoveLater] Chapter 1.3 — Getting A Marriage Certificate

Jian Hang told her secretary, “Contact the public relations company. I will pay for it myself.”

The secretary secretly sighed. She knew that Jian Hang was very aggrieved—who wouldn’t be aggrieved?—but nothing she could say at this time would help. She couldn’t sympathize; she could only break her teeth from keeping the words in her mouth and swallow it in her stomach.

The secretary said no more nonsense, “I’ll do it right away.”

Back in the office, Jian Hang picked up the household registration book and flipped through it again and again.

She was innocent, but others might not think so. Even if you say you were innocent, they would slap ‘there’s no smoke where there’s no fire’1 in your face.

If a man married a woman with a dark history, who knew how many people would laugh and talk about him behind his back.

She put down her household registration book and sent a message to Qin Moling.

… ….

Qin Moling was in the office at this time—holding a plain ring in his right hand and about to put it on the ring finger of his left hand—when his assistant Zhou Xu knocked on the door and came in without waiting for a response.

Zhou Xu’s expression was solemn, and he made an obvious effort to calm his breathing.

Qin Moling paused in the act of putting on the ring, “What’s the matter?”

“Mr. Qin, Miss Jian2…” Zhou Xu has been an assistant for so many years. This was the first time he felt the words in his mouth were too hot to spit, and he didn’t know what to say.

Qin Moling had a premonition that things were not going well and was not in a hurry to put on the ring. At this time, his phone vibrated with news from Jian Hang.

Jian Hang: [The wife of Yishuo Bank’s Gao Yu made a fuss in my office today. Pang Linbin already knows about it abroad. You must have heard about it too, right? You should think carefully about whether you want to get a marriage certificate with me or not.]

After reading the message, Qin Moling frowned.

He put down his phone and looked at Zhou Xu, “What happened to Jian Hang? What happened with Yishuo’s Gao Yu?”

Zhou Xu carefully organized his words, “Mr. Gao’s wife regarded Miss Jian as her husband’s mistress.”

His statement was implicitly biased towards Jian Hang. When he saw the video in his friend group, no one sympathized with Jian Hang. They all said that this was not the first time that Jian Hang had interfered in other people’s marriage.

It was only that this time, the horse stumbled and she was caught by the wife in public.

The boss didn’t want to marry Jian Hang in the first place. It was the intention of the Qin family for the two of them to get the marriage certificate. Now, he didn’t know if the boss would use this as an excuse not to get the certificate.

Zhou Xu added to his report, “Miss Jian was not captured in the video, but Mrs. Gao called her name in every sentence.”

“Who took the video?”

“It should be an internal employee of Yinlin.” As the head of the branch, Jian Hang must have many people who are dissatisfied with her.

Qin Moling said in a deep voice, “Find someone to block all the videos posted on the Internet. Anyone who spreads them privately will be sent a lawyer’s letter directly.”

He glanced at the ring in his hand and put it on his ring finger.

Zhou Xu understood what this meant and prepared to deal with matters according to Qin Moling’s instructions.

Qin Moling got up and went to the resting lounge inside, walked to the closet, unbuttoned his shirt with one hand, and took out a white shirt from the closet with the other hand.

He took off his dark striped shirt and put on the white shirt.

Qin Moling tucked his shirt into his trousers and smoothed it meticulously.

He replied to Jian Hang: [Don’t be late. I don’t like waiting for people.]

They had agreed to meet at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau at 3:30 pm.

Jian Hang borrowed Lin Xiao’s hair dryer to dry her blouse and asked her secretary to buy a cup of hot coffee and give it to Lin Xiao along with the borrowed hair dryer.

Taking her family documents with her, Jian Hang drove to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

She was three minutes late from the appointed time.

It was the first time in her life that she was late, and it was in front of this would-be plastic3 husband.

When Jian Hang got out of the car, she saw Qin Moling from a distance. He really was a one-in-a-million man in terms of aura and appearance. When he looked at her, his eyes were cold and without any warmth.

She apologized as she approached, “Sorry, I’m late.”

Qin Moling said nothing and handed her the ring box.

Jian Hang caught a glimpse of the ring on his ring finger. She took the ring box and said, “Thank you.” She wasn’t thanking him for giving her the diamond ring but for choosing to trust her despite that morning’s incident.

The two of them walked side by side to the lobby of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Qin Moling suddenly turned his head towards her. There were no traces of being beaten on her face, but he still confirmed, “Did she injure you?”

Jian Hang shook her head, “She’s not as tall as me, so she couldn’t possibly hit me.” In fact, Mrs. Gao tried to hit her but missed. After being splashed with water, Jian Hang immediately realized what was going on, restrained Mrs. Gao, and deftly pushed her out the door.

Qin Moling looked at her slender wrists and couldn’t imagine that she could win a fight. “If this happens again, if you can’t beat her, just run away. There’s no shame in it.”

Jian Hang was choked and speechless.

The two walked into the registration hall.

She and Qin Moling only took one ID photo. When she got the photo, she found that she was looking straight ahead, while Qin Moling’s head was slightly tilted towards her, as if he was accommodating her.

  1. The Chinese idiom is ‘flies don’t bite seamless eggs’ since they look for ones with broken shells ↩︎
  2. People usually refer to Jian Hang in her capacity as boss and it’s translated as Ms. Jian (the equivalent of Mr. for the male bosses). Here, the assistant is referring to her as ‘young lady Jian’ or Miss Jian because her relationship to his boss is personal, not as business partner ↩︎
  3. ‘Plastic’ here means someone who fakes a good relationship with you on the surface, just for public display. It’s not really derogatory, more tongue-in-cheek ↩︎

  1. Urgh, having to pay for the PR… Well, I guess it makes sense. Personal problem may affect the company, even if it’s not your fault, the company may not be happy to pay to fix a problem that’s caused by rumors about you.

Keep the receipts. When you go for defamation against Mrs. Gao, maybe you can get your money back in compensation.
