[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 37.1 — Day 12 (Swimming Pool)

Ji Chaozhou didn’t really want to fall asleep. He just turned his back to Cheng Liu and closed his eyes to pretend to be asleep, so that she would leave on her own.

He didn’t expect that when he closed his eyes he would really fall asleep after a while.

When he opened his eyes, the living room was dark and quiet with only the sound of a few insects chirping.

Ji Chaozhou turned his face slightly, and the thin blanket covering him inadvertently rubbed his chin, bringing with it some indescribable but familiar and pleasant smell.

He was not fully awake and subconsciously buried his face in the warm and soft fabric. His long eyelashes fell down, and he was still sleepy. The breeze that drifted in through the screen window brought with it the smell of grass after the rain which made him even more lazy.

After a long time, Ji Chaozhou finally woke up completely and sat up slowly. With lingering laziness, he looked down at the pure white blanket that had slipped down from his body. He could see it clearly through the moonlight shining from the window.

This was not his.

Ji Chaozhou’s slender fingers grabbed the thin blanket pooled around his waist. He was stunned for a moment before he realized: this was the blanket Cheng Liu took out to use when she stayed in the guest room.

He sat on the sofa for a long time, finally turned around and stood up, reaching out to pick up the mobile phone on the coffee table.

It was 2:00 in the morning.

He had slept for a long time.

Ji Chaozhou did not turn on the lights in the living room, nor did he go back to the bedroom. He walked slowly towards the backyard in the darkness.

The backyard was full of moonlight. The swimming pool sparkled a deep blue, and there were scattered fallen leaves blown by the wind floating on the surface of the water.

Ji Chaozhou did not step out; he stood quietly on the porch, his eyes falling on the moonlit lawn.

The light on the second floor next door was on. Was she… not asleep?

… …

Cheng Liu had indeed stayed up. She was sitting in the study, working frantically.

The technical barrier to automated driving was not that easy to break through, but some good news came from the company this afternoon: there has been new progress.

Cheng Liu looked at the results as soon as she got back.

There were two computers in front of her. One had a video conference on—everyone on the other side were technicians in this field, and the other displayed the system where they made the new progress.

Cheng Liu was participating in real-time modifications.

She was concentrating on her work and completely ignored the surrounding environment. She did not know that Ji Chaozhou had woken up and was standing in the backyard.

Otherwise, Young President Cheng would have come out and said ‘Good evening, neighbor.’

Ji Chaozhou sat on a rattan chair on the porch, looking quietly at the sparkling water in the swimming pool. The moonlight seemed to be partial to him, insisting on squeezing in and shining on him; the slender, white ankles that were faintly revealed posed an unspeakable enticement.

His mind wandered, his fingertips dropped to his knees, and he felt a rare sense of tranquility in his heart.

However, soon, this tranquility was broken.

From the corner of his eye, Ji Chaozhou saw a figure next door suddenly jump down and hit the swimming pool in a parabola, making a huge splashing sound.

He stood up instantly, and his heartbeat stopped for a moment.

Was that a human figure just now?

He remembered that Cheng Liu was the only one next door.

Ji Chaozhou strode quickly into the backyard but was blocked by the tall fence. He pursed his lips, made a quick turn around, and rushed out of the villa.

The door of the villa next door was closed. He looked at the keypad lock on it and almost without hesitation entered a series of 6s.

The door opened.

He pushed it open and rushed directly to the backyard. He saw a person floating in the swimming pool face up with its limbs spread out.

Ji Chaozhou’s face was extremely pale, and he called the person’s name in a numb voice, “Cheng Liu?”

Cheng Liu, who was floating on the water and looking at the moon in the sky, heard the sound and instinctively lifted her head to look over.

The sight of him was so surprising that she forgot her swimming skills and sank down directly, choking on the water.

… She was alive.

Ji Chaozhou breathed a sigh of relief. He walked towards the swimming pool with an ominous expression on his face, stretched out his hand to pull her out of the water.

“Cough cough cough—” Cheng Liu held on the edge of the swimming pool with one hand; Ji Chaozhou held the other. She was fully clothed and soaked in water. She looked up at him, “You’re awake, I thought you were sleeping.”

Ji Chaozhou flung her hand away, stood up and looked down at this unreasonable person in the swimming pool coldly. “Cheng Liu, are you crazy?”

She was still wearing the same clothes she had worn during the day, but she was missing the jacket.

The weather in April was not warm, especially since it just rained today. No ordinary person would jump into an open-air swimming pool.

“I’m sorry.” Cheng Liu really regretted it now. She didn’t expect Ji Chaozhou to be awake, let alone see her when she jumped down.

Ji Chaozhou took a few steps back and looked at Cheng Liu coldly. His heartbeat—which had almost stopped just now—slowly recovered, but it beat with a dull pain after being so frightened.

Cheng Liu quickly got out of the swimming pool. “Sorry, did I disturb you? I was a little excited tonight and couldn’t control myself.”

She had been working all night, and the project has made unprecedented progress. In order to calm down, as soon as the meeting was over, she jumped into the swimming pool from above, trying to wake herself up.

People like Cheng Liu were born with an innate love for excitement. In addition, she had a good body and a good mind. In fact, she restrained herself most of the time.

Tonight, in the dead of night, it was rare for her to lose control. She wanted to calm down for a while, but Ji Chaozhou suddenly appeared before her from next door.

Cheng Liu has not forgotten Ji Chaozhou’s state when the window at the villa next door was smashed down by the storm, and his face looked extremely unsightly now.

“I’m sorry, I won’t do this again next time.” Cheng Liu felt guilty and anxious, eager to reassure him.

She would never again jump into the swimming pool from the second floor or the roof.

Ji Chaozhou’s eyes fell on Cheng Liu. She was still soaked.

Her clothes were dripping, and all the messy emotions in his chest finally dissipated. He just lowered his eyes and said lightly, “You have nothing to apologize to me for.”

He turned around to leave.

Cheng Liu grew even more anxious. She felt that Ji Chaozhou was angry and instinctively reached for his hand. “Don’t leave.”

Facing Ji Chaozhou’s gaze, she stuttered for a while and said, “I—, I—”

She spent a long time opening and closing her mouth and still couldn’t explain why.

Ji Chaozhou turned back and walked back into the villa with a cold expression on his face.

He didn’t fling her hand away, so Cheng Liu continued to hold on to Ji Chaozhou’s wrist and followed him inside step by step.
