[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 35.1 — Day 12 (Gravestone)

The night was quiet, and the bedroom was filled with a light sleep-aid fragrance, but Ji Chaozhou didn’t feel at all sleepy.

Maybe because it was the first time that he had eaten so late at night that made him a little uncomfortable.

The bedroom he had chosen was on the west side of the first floor, with two large floor-to-ceiling windows to the north. When one lay on one’s side on the bed, one could see directly into the backyard, see the neatly manicured lawn and the enticingly-blue swimming pool.

Tonight, the curtains were not closed. Ji Chaozhou was lying on the bed, his arm flung out. The silver moonlight from outside the window shone on that noble face, like a hazy jade gauze, full of elegance and splendor, yet somewhat attractive and fatally mysterious.

At this time, the eyes of the person on the bed unconsciously fell on the backyard lawn.

He saw the light from the second floor next door faintly shining down; it soon went out. She had probably turned off the light to rest for the night.

Ji Chaozhou couldn’t help but remember that when they were in Guyu Pavilion, she was slumped on the table, fully asleep in that  dim place.

She… could really sleep well.

He did not realize that he was not drowning in the boundless abyss of darkness as usual—instead all his thoughts had been occupied by Cheng Liu’s various behaviors, until he, too, finally fell into sleep.

… …

The next morning, Ji Chaozhou slowly opened his eyes. He sat up in a daze for a moment and gradually woke up.

Maybe because he slept deeply last night, but he woke up extra relaxed today, not as tense as usual.

Ji Chaozhou walked out of the bedroom, passed the kitchen door, and frowned subconsciously when he saw the two red and blue cartoon aprons hanging there.

Cheng Liu did not take her things away.

Half an hour later, he went out to take care of the flowers and plants in the front yard, and suddenly saw the ugly and eye-catching red, plastic, watering pot to the left. She also didn’t take this away last night.

He simply turned his back to the left side of the yard, keeping the eyesore out of sight, and quietly tended to his flowers and plants.

Ji Chaozhou cut off a few flowers that had just bloomed. He took the scissors, turned around, and walked to the living room. He stood in front of the pot of lily-of-the-valley brought by Cheng Liu.

The lily-of-the-valley flowers had been injured by the black smoke. After a few days of careful cultivation, some had gradually improved. The one that used to bloom the most has withered, but the thinner ones next to it were slowly blooming despite that most of the leaves have burn marks,

Ji Chaozhou looked down at the pot of lily-of-the-valley for a long time, and finally put down the scissors in his hand without cutting any of the flowers.

They were not in good enough condition.

With a bouquet of flowers in his arms, he walked out to the front courtyard and heard a familiar voice coming from the wall next door.

“Good morning, neighbor.”

Cheng Liu got up late today because she had a good dream last night and was a little reluctant to wake up. She climbed up the ladder and poked her head over the wall to say ‘hello’ to Ji Chaozhou in the courtyard next door.

Today he was dressed more formally than usual. He was wearing a pure black, slim-fitting suit that made his shoulders seem wide and his waist thin, with long and straight legs. He was a natural model, and he could easily go on a catwalk directly.

“Are you busy today?” Cheng Liu asked curiously, leaning on the wall with both hands. This was the first time she saw Ji Chaozhou dressed so formally. She had been mistaken for a bodyguard before and had sent him to work several times, but he never once wore a suit when working at Ranshan Building.

Ji Chaozhou raised his eyes and glanced coldly at Cheng Liu across the wall. She seemed to be happy every day, with a smile in her eyes. His grip tightened on the bouquet and after a moment he said, “You don’t need to water the pomelo seedlings every day.”

“Oh, then… I won’t water them today.” Cheng Liu retracted her leg that was about to clamber up the wall, like a well-behaved person who’s full of only good intentions.

Ji Chaozhou walked straight to the front gate.

The gate opened and closed.

Cheng Liu stood slumped against the wall. It seemed like he had something to do today.

She suddenly missed her ‘bodyguard’ career from a few days ago. At least then she could still follow Ji Chaozhou at any time and be with him for the day.

Her future boyfriend has left, and the good and proper Cheng Liu got down from the ladder.

It was time to go to the company. Young President Cheng, former workaholic, suddenly became fed up of work today.

Especially when she just woke up from a sweet dream and now faced the cold reality.

Ah, forget it—she’s taking time off work today.

Cheng Liu took her mobile phone and sent a message to the Chief Assistant saying that she would not go to work today. Then she quickly ran up to the bedroom on the second floor and reached out to close the curtains.

She was going to go back to bed and take a nap; she probably still had time to have another sweet dream.

However, with the curtains just drawn halfway, Cheng Liu suddenly noticed a car approaching and parking in front of the gate of the villa next door.

The license plate number looked familiar.

Cheng Liu thought for a moment whose car that could be.

Shua—!” Cheng Liu suddenly pulled open the curtains she had just closed, turned around, and ran down the stairs.

How could she be sleeping?! Her father was here!

Cheng Liu jumped downstairs and ran quickly to the gate. Before opening it, she calmed herself down a little. The moment she stepped through the gate, Young President Cheng’s impeccable smile was back on her face.

Warm and inviting, it was enough to ‘fascinate’ men, women, and children.

“President Ji,” Cheng Liu deliberately controlled her pace so as not to be too fawning.

Ji Mushan had just gotten out of the car. He was looking at the closed gate and was hesitating whether to ring the doorbell when Cheng Liu came out from next door.

Ji Mushan turned to look at Cheng Liu and asked tentatively, “President Cheng, you don’t have to work today?”

The most important reason why he came today was because he saw Cheng Liu’s post in her ‘circle of friends’ last night.

Ji Mushan thought about it for a long time and still couldn’t understand.

When Chaozhou moved there, he had walked around the villa. His son’s kitchen clearly had the same look as the kitchen in Cheng Liu’s post last night.

Ji Mushan was certain that those photos must have been taken in the villa’s kitchen.

These two duplex villas originally belong to the same person. The layouts of both were naturally the same.

The key lay in Cheng Liu’s words, ‘cooking with my neighbor.’

Wasn’t Chaozhou next door to her villa?

No matter whether Chaozhou had gone to Cheng Liu, or she was the one who went to Chaozhou.

Both of these scenarios aroused huge doubts in Ji Mushan’s heart.

Cheng Liu…why would she post this?

Ji Mushan has never known anyone to successfully approach Ji Chaozhou and make his son cook.

Cheng Liu was dreaming.
