[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 29.1 — Day 9 (Your Hands Are Really White)

Outside the window, the rain was pouring rain, and thunder echoed continuously.

In the living room, the two people stood with one’s back in front of the other, almost embracing each other.

Cheng Liu was slightly shorter; she stood behind Ji Chaozhou and her chin was just at the right height to rest on his shoulder. She put her left arm around Ji Chaozhou’s shoulder and covered his eyes with her hand; with her other hand, she squeezed her fingers in between his. Their stance was close and ambiguous.

But it seemed that neither of them noticed.

Ji Chaozhou’s eyes were forced to close, and his long eyelashes trembled gently under Cheng Liu’s palm. The nightmarish red color that appeared before him slowly disappeared, and the accompanying thick scent of blood was replaced by the slightly bitter fragrance of green pomelo.

The unrelenting presence of the person behind him had brought him back to reality.

Standing behind him, Cheng Liu’s gaze fell on the windows that crashed down, her look thoughtful.

When the window fell down, the lightning outside illuminated everything as bright as day. The two of them had both looked up and clearly saw the second floor window get blown down with their own eyes.

Logically, even if the sound of crashing to the floor was extremely loud, they should have been prepared for it and not be too frightened.

Unless… it wasn’t the sound of the window falling that had so frightened Ji Chaozhou.

Cheng Liu calmly looked away, confirmed that his condition was improving, and then decided to slowly let go of his hand.

At this time, Ji Chaozhou finally reacted—but there was a table in front of him blocking his way, and he could only break away from Cheng Liu’s presence sideways.

“Let go,” his tone was as cold as ever, but it contained a complexity that even he himself was not aware of.

The two of them were already standing very close. So when Ji Chaozhou suddenly turned his head sideways, the tip of his nose almost touched Cheng Liu’s face. At that moment, their breathing intertwined uncontrollably.

Such a close distance allowed Ji Chaozhou to really see Cheng Liu’s face clearly for the first time. Unlike usual, she wasn’t smiling—and her eyes were calm. He could see that her eyelashes were thick and fanned down, not upturned at the tips.

The next second, those eyes curled up with a smile, and the sharp and calm expression disappeared like an illusion.

Cheng Liu took the initiative to step back and raised her right hand to show that she had already let go. “You have to find someone to check and tidy up the villa tomorrow.”

Ji Chaozhou turned around, only the residual warmth on his right hand remaining. He looked down at the mess on the ground. Some essential oil bottles were broken and others had rolled everywhere.

Cheng Liu, on the other hand, had already squatted down before him and was picking up the unbroken essential oil bottles. She put them back in the box, then handed them over. “There is no broom here, the broken pieces can be dealt with tomorrow.”

Ji Chaozhou took the silver box and avoided looking into her eyes, “…Thank you.”

“It’s just picking up something. Don’t touch it, your hand is still injured.”

Cheng Liu never mentioned the matter of covering his eyes from the beginning to the end.

“It’s too late, go to bed early,” she said.

After that, she walked to the room on the left side of the first floor like nothing happened.

… …

Ji Chaozhou stood in the living room for a long time before finally walking to the sliding doors, opening them to let the thick scent in the living room disperse. He went back to the bathroom to wash away all the smells clinging on his body.

He lay down on his side under the quilt. He had clearly washed with a custom-made shower gel and it should have left only a faint smell of bitter coffee on his skin. He didn’t know why he could still smell the scent of green pomelo.

After a long time, Ji Chaozhou stood up and picked up a bottle of Midu on the bedside table.

In the darkness, his slender white finger lingered on the nozzle—but he didn’t move to press it. After an unknown amount of time, he stopped hesitating. He sprayed Midu on his body, and the cold sandalwood instantly covered up all the other scents.

… …

When Ji Chaozhou woke up in the morning, he found that the glass shards on the ground had already disappeared, and there was breakfast on the dining table, still warm.

He walked over and saw a post-it note on the dining table: [A return gift for last night’s stay —Six]

He had seen her handwriting before, but he didn’t pay any attention to it at the time. Now that he looked at it again, the handwriting was free and easy, but the sharp edges of the characters could not be hidden.

Ji Chaozhou lowered his eyes and tore off the post-it note. The occasional traces that Cheng Liu sometimes left behind were just like that of a young founder of an emerging powerhouse company, laced with hidden ambition and strength.

… …

At this time, Cheng Liu had arrived at Shenyin Technology and started working.

Normally she goes to work at nine o’clock, but she wanted to finish her work early and make time to be a ‘good neighbor’.

He Bai arrived at half past eight and was a little surprised to see Cheng Liu in the office. He thought she wouldn’t come to work again today.

He turned sideways and faced the glass next to him to make sure that he looked impeccable. Then he picked up the stacked documents on the table, walked to the office, and knocked on the door.

“Come in,” Cheng Liu’s eyes were on the computer and her fingers moved quickly over the keyboard.

“President Cheng, these are the reports submitted by each department.” He Bai walked to Cheng Liu, put the documents on her desk, and then changed his tone slightly, “Senior sister, have you finished handling your matter?”

It wasn’t yet time for work to officially start—He Bai felt comfortable using a more familiar title.

Cheng Liu didn’t pay attention to the change of the title in his mouth. After typing a line, she stopped her hands, and glanced at the documents at hand. She raised her eyes and said to He Bai, “Send me this week’s itinerary.”

Hearing this, He Bai immediately took out his cell phone and sent her the itinerary.

Cheng Liu looked over it carefully, then turned to He Bai. “Move these to the morning, and all the documents that need to be processed will just be sent to me. Other matters can be dealt with directly online. Try to get them together as much as possible.”

He Bai agreed and went out, adjusting Cheng Liu’s schedule for this week.

After following her instructions, he discovered that Cheng Liu had squeezed out several days of free time.

He Bai paused, knocked on the door and went in with his mobile phone still open to her newly thinned-out schedule. “Young President Cheng, what are you planning to do these days?”

Cheng Liu glanced at the new schedule on his phone. “No need to arrange for anything, I have other things to do.”

She originally wanted to show off her life matters to her Chief Assistant, but she held back and decided to wait until she officially caught up with a certain someone.

What if another joke happened?

Young President Cheng could never afford to lose that much face!
