Cheng Liu hung up the call, walked out of the villa, and stood in front of the two entrance doors standing side by side. She looked carefully, then pried off the house number on the right side of her house and directly nailed it next to Ji Chaozhou’s house number. She also helped tidy up the house number ‘No. 5’.
Feeling satisfied, Cheng Liu took a picture of the two house numbers now nailed side by side. This was how they should be: together, just like she and Chaozhou. After all, they would be together sooner or later. In the future, President Ji would be her father too, so she must be more respectful.
… …
As soon as Ji Mushan got out of the car with the pot of lily-of-the-valley in his arms, he saw a familiar figure. He stepped forward and almost reflexively asked in surprise, “Why is Young President Cheng here?”
Cheng Liu turned around and saw Ji Mushan. She quickly said, “Dad.”
Dad?
What?
Ji Mushan was stunned on the spot. He subconsciously looked to the side, wondering if he was hallucinating.
He looked at Cheng Liu’s face and could not see his son’s appearance, not to mention that Chaozhou had not called him this title for many years.
“I… I was nailing the door number.” Cheng Liu explained the hammer in her hand and nonchalantly hid it behind her.
Ji Mushan slowed down his breathing, regained his stern look, and looked at the house number. “Do you live here?”
“Yes.” Except in front of Ji Chaozhou, Cheng Liu could talk nonsense to anyone without batting an eye, “I only found out last night that you also bought the villa next door. What a coincidence.”
Ji Mushan frowned. He had previously misunderstood that Cheng Liu was paddling two boats emotionally, but even now that he knew it was all a misunderstanding, she didn’t seem to be much better in his estimation.
How emotionally reliable could a person be who mistakenly recognizes someone else as her boyfriend?
Fortunately, Chaozhou had nothing to do with Cheng Liu. Also, according to Director Li, she wouldn’t often stay here anyway.
As for Cheng Liu, she surreptitiously threw the hammer to the side and stepped forward to chat. “President Ji, this is Chaozhou’s flower pot, right?”
It was true that Ji Mushan had a bad impression of Cheng Liu, but when she mentioned Chaozhou he couldn’t help but respond, “Yes, how do you know?”
“I brought it down from the balcony of his previous house. The other flowers were unfortunately all burned down and I was only able to get this one pot,” Cheng Liu explained.
Ji Mushan glanced at Cheng Liu a few more times. Of course, he could already recognize that Chaozhou’s ‘girlfriend’ that the property manager mentioned that day was her.
Chaozhou said that he had always regarded Cheng Liu as his bodyguard, and yet he actually allowed her to get that close.
Ji Mushan would be lying if he said he wasn’t envious. In all these years, he had never even entered the place where Chaozhou lived. Instead, he was beaten to the spot by a near stranger—this Cheng Liu!
“Chaozhou asked you before if you had any children, and you said ‘yes’.” Ji Mushan looked at Cheng Liu, “You already have a child?”
Cheng Liu looked confused, “What child?”
After thinking for a long time, she remembered Ji Chaozhou did ask her about children in the car once, but she thought she was asking how many children they had at home.
“I have no children,” Cheng Liu clarified and proceeded to introduce herself to her future father. “There are three children in my family. I am the eldest. My parents are healthy, and they have opened a store in my hometown. I have a company called Shenyin Technology. It’s not doing badly…”
“I know.” Ji Mushan gave Cheng Liu a quizzical look, “Why are you talking about this?”
Cheng Liu’s rise was meteoric—who in the entire S city didn’t know about her? The situation in her family has long been spread everywhere.
“I’m… just saying it.” Cheng Liu felt that she had encountered a tough situation.
President Ji’s reputation as a man who did not accept hard or soft tactics seemed to be hard-earned.
However, Young President Cheng always had a way. She switched gears and specifically talked to Ji Mushan about Ji Chaozhou.
“President Ji, are you sending these flowers to Chaozhou?” Cheng Liu said casually. “He left this morning and there are still injuries on his fingers.”
“He has injuries on his fingers?” When Ji Mushan heard this, the vertical lines between his eyebrows became even more pronounced. “Is it serious?”
Yesterday, the two of them got out of the same car, but he didn’t notice any injury on Ji Chaozhou’s hand, did he?
Cheng Liu raised her gaze. “The fingertips were scraped raw. I’ve put some medicine on it.”
“Is it his right hand?” Ji Mushan seemed to understand. “He was holding his right hand carefully yesterday.”
Chaozhou did not eat with him last night and had gone directly to his room.
The two stood at the door of the two villas and talked for more than half an hour. In this period, Cheng Liu successfully gained a meager portion of Ji Mushan’s trust.
“It seems Chaozhou isn’t here, so it’s not convenient for me to go in.” He handed the pot of lily-of-the-valley in his arms to Cheng Liu, “Please give it to him, Young President Cheng.”
“Definitely.” Young President Cheng said with all sincerity, “We are all neighbors here.”
Cheng Liu watched as the car disappeared, feeling deeply that she was one step closer to marriage.

When Ji Chaozhou arrived at this new home, his eyes strayed for a moment on the house numbers now nailed next to each other. He seemed to remember that the house number next door was clearly on the right side yesterday.
“You’re back.”
As soon as Ji Chaozhou stepped onto his villa’s pathway, someone suddenly popped out on top of the wall next door.
Cheng Liu deftly climbed on top of the wall using one hand, holding the flowerpot with the other, and sat there. “President Ji sent over this lily-of-the-valley and asked me to give it to you.”
Ji Chaozhou walked towards the wall. He lifted his head and raised his hand to take the flowerpot.
Cheng Liu who was sitting atop the wall was stunned. At this time, the afternoon sunlight was muted, and the entire courtyard was enveloped in orange light. His face—which was so beautiful that it eclipsed everything around him—was turned up to face her.
Cheng Liu’s breathing stopped for a moment.
She didn’t give him the flower pot. Instead, she took his hand and jumped down.
Ji Chaozhou retreated instinctively, but she pulled him back towards her with her momentum.
This wasn’t the first time she held his hand.
Ji Chaozhou’s face was as cold as frost. His eyes—which were always cold and solemn—were closed tightly while tried to control his roiling emotions. He finally pulled out his hand and took a few steps back.
Even though he was already several steps away from her, he couldn’t seem to escape the strong presence this person always seemed to bring with her.
Just by standing there, she easily broke the firm boundaries he always set around himself.
Ji Chaozhou didn’t like this feeling at all.
He clenched his left hand tightly behind his back, but he couldn’t remove the feeling of warmth from her palm just now.
Cheng Liu felt something was off. “What’s wrong?”
Ji Chaozhou raised his extremely beautiful amber eyes, filled with frost and snow as always, now mixed with unprecedented vigilance. “Don’t touch me.”

T/N: Let’s get it out of the way: STALKING IS BAD and boundaries should be respected.
But for the comedic factor, I found this series of chapters fascinating because of the role reversal. Most romance stories would be from the FL’s pov and she’d just suddenly find that the ML had moved into the apartment next door, and as readers, we don’t generally see the thought process of how the ML justified to himself how moving into the same apartment building as the FL would be socially acceptable and not make him creepy—it’s just a trope we readers take in stride as a way to get the pair to grow closer.
Btw, being caught hammer in hand by your future father-in-law is pure icing on the cake.
