[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 25.1 — Neither Close Nor Distant

The scarecrow was half a person tall, and Ji Chaozhou’s arms were stuffed full of it. Before he could react, Cheng Liu had already gotten another shopping cart, put all their things in it, and with a jaunty swagger, pushed it out of the supermarket door, attracting the attention of many passersby.

Cheng Liu didn’t care about the many eyes on her at all. She walked out, and when she realized that Ji Chaozhou was still standing where she left him, she stopped and waited for him.

Ji Chaozhou could only walk out of the supermarket holding the scarecrow that he had somehow gotten out of nowhere. He looked at the shopping cart being pushed by Cheng Liu. “This… are we bringing this to someone?”

After coming out of the warehouse just now, Cheng Liu and the supermarket manager didn’t part ways immediately on the spot.

“No, the manager gave it to me,” Cheng Liu looked at Ji Chaozhou holding the scarecrow rather stiffly, and after thinking about it, she took it back. “It’s inconvenient for you to hold it. I’ll just give it to you when we get home.”

She stepped forward, and Ji Chaozhou wasn’t expecting it.

The two of them were suddenly so close that he could smell Cheng Liu’s scent.

The very faint smell of green pomelo seemed slightly bitter in the April night wind. It was not the smell of perfume, but the fragrance of laundry detergent on her clothes.

Ji Chaozhou could even tell the brand of laundry detergent. It was obviously a very common smell, but it had a strong presence when on her.

Perhaps he was too close just now.

Ji Chaozhou lowered his eyelashes and deliberately ignored the scent wrapping around him.

Next to him, Cheng Liu was still arranging the scarecrows to her liking. She inserted the pair of scarecrows on either side of the shopping cart and began pushing the cart again.

Everyone they passed looked their way.

Ji Chaozhou was not walking fast, and he was always a few steps behind Cheng Liu. Even so, her presence was still very strong.

Soon the two returned to the front of their villas. Cheng Liu took the initiative to push the shopping cart into Ji Chaozhou’s front courtyard and carried his things to the living room for him.

Of course, she didn’t forget to leave one of the scarecrows behind.

“I’m going back first, you go to bed early,” Cheng Liu pushed the borrowed shopping cart back out.

She arranged all the things she bought in pairs in their proper places. As for the pair of big, red, double happiness stickers, she put them on the bedside table.

One day, they will surely come in handy, Young President Cheng thought with determination in her heart.

In the villa next door, Ji Chaozhou looked up at the scarecrow leaning against the table. It had a pair of curved, smiling eyes on its face and a similarly curved mouth, somewhat similar to the person who stuffed it over.

After removing the mistaken identity of a ‘bodyguard’, like taking off a hooded cloak, she seemed to have become extremely dazzling.

Ji Chaozhou lowered his head and looked at his cold hands. He was not used to such a strong presence invading his quiet world.

… …

Cheng Liu had just come out of the shower. She felt that her relationship with Ji Chaozhou had somewhat improved, and she was in a happy mood.

That was until she picked up her phone and saw the message on it—it felt like she was struck by a bolt from the blue, and she froze completely.

Ji Chaozhou transferred an amount of money to her on WeChat, which was only a little bit more than what she had spent in the past few days.

There was another message after that.

Boyfriend: [Now that the misunderstanding has been resolved, we can consider the matter settled.]

He clearly wanted to draw a clear line between them!

Oh, but how to clear up their relationship? She hasn’t been able to express her real affections yet—what should she do to let him agree to her pursuit?

Cheng Liu looked at these cold words on her phone and felt that her road to courtship was dim and her romantic future was bleak.

But why did he have to draw a clear line?

What did she do that was so wrong?

Cheng Liu grabbed her phone and tried to recall what those business partners of hers did when they encountered similar situations, but her mind drew a blank.

Should she go and ask Director Li?

No!

She just promised him a few days ago that she would ask him to be a witness at their wedding—how could she tell him the truth? If she did, it was guaranteed: within an hour, the news would absolutely spread everywhere in their circle.

Cheng Liu ruled out everything she could think of and finally set her sights on her ex-boyfriend who broke up with her just yesterday.

Wang Hongyang not only already knew about this chaotic situation, but was also one of the parties involved. The most important thing was that he did seem to have some skills in this area.

Thinking about it, he was simply the perfect choice.

Cheng Liu touched her pocket and found that her personal phone was not on her.

And so, Young President Cheng—who could now be said to be truly desperate—recalled the WeChat ID she saw when she changed the display name yesterday, searched for it on her work mobile phone, and requested to add Wang Hongyang’s WeChat account.

[I am Cheng Liu, I have something to ask you.]

… …

Wang Hongyang was lying on the bed, applying a facial mask, and playing with his mobile phone. When he saw a red notification dot, he clicked on it and—as a result—immediately turned over and sat up.

Why was that stingy Cheng Liu adding him on WeChat now?

Wang Hongyang did not agree immediately to the request and instead replied: [Liar! Want to make a fool out of me? No way! ]

No. 6: [I… I’m not a liar, this is the real Cheng Liu. This can be verified by video call.]

Wang Hongyang laughed angrily when he saw this sentence.

They had been dating for half a year, and he had called Cheng Liu several times, but without exception there were only two results: unable to get through or being hung up on.

He didn’t expect that after the breakup, he would get a request from Cheng Liu’s WeChat account and finally be asked to do a video call.

Wang Hongyang sneered and typed with his fingers: [What, you are bankrupt now? Is there anything I can help President Cheng with?]

No. 6: [I’m not broke, I’m very rich. Was the girl at the restaurant last night your new girlfriend?]

Wang Hongyang was confused. Could it be that Cheng Liu had changed her mind and wanted to renew her relationship with him?

In fact, he was not unwilling. That was, if Cheng Liu was finally willing to spend money on him.

Wang Hongyang replied coyly by voice message, [“That doesn’t count. We just had a meal, and I’m still clean.”]

Yesterday morning, the short-haired girl spent hundreds of thousands of yuan just to be able to touch his hand. Wang Hongyang regarded himself as valuable. Unless it was someone who had a net worth like Cheng Liu, he would just flirt with her, get some money, and run away.

When Cheng Liu saw this reply, she hesitated: [Ah? So she wasn’t your girlfriend? Never mind then.]

Alas, this Wang Hongyang didn’t seem to be very reliable either…
