[7YrSecretLove] Chapter 16.3 — A Little Impatient

Jiang Shenghe turned his face when he heard the sound of a car slowing down, her window was just lowered, and their eyes met. Now he can look at her without any burden, and he doesn’t have to be immoral anymore.

“Chief Jiang, do you want me to give you a ride?”

The answer Luo Qi hoped to hear was, ‘no’.

However, Jiang Shenghe seemed to think about it for a few seconds, “I’ll have to trouble you.”

Luo Qi: “…”

She smiled slightly and said, “It’s no trouble.”

At this time, Jiang Shenghe’s cell phone rang, and he swiped to answer it. “No need to come here, Assistant Luo is here—I will ride with her.”

Luo Qi guessed that he was talking to the driver.

Thus, she simply took it as doing a favor for the driver; at least this way he didn’t need to pick the boss up back and forth.

Jiang Shenghe hung up the phone and looked at her, “I’ll drive. Pull over to the side of the road and wait for me for a few minutes.”

He turned and walked back towards the villa.

He took the initiative to drive which, truthfully, Luo Qi also wanted him to do.

Her driving skills were mediocre; if Jiang Shenghe sat in the backseat, she would be anxious, sitting on pins and needles the entire way.

Luo Qi stopped by the side of the road, got out of the car, and sat in the passenger seat.

A few minutes later, Jiang Shenghe came back with a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose. It was a bit difficult for him to drive at night, and he needed the glasses to properly see the road conditions.

“Chief Jiang, are you nearsighted?” She really had nothing to say, but she felt she couldn’t keep the car silent.

Jiang Shenghe turned his face slightly, glanced at her from the corner of the eye. She finally took the initiative to talk to him, but the polite word ‘you’ separated their identities and kept them at a distance.

He made a sound of agreement and told her, “My nearsightedness is 300 degrees.”

“Oh, I see.” Luo Qi didn’t actually care about his specific degree of myopia.

There was nothing to say after that.

This time it was Jiang Shenghe who opened a topic, “Director Jiang’s health hasn’t recovered yet, her working hours are increasing, you should pay more attention.”

“I will, Chief Jiang, you don’t have to worry.”

Jiang Shenghe didn’t want to talk anymore. Every time she opened her mouth, she said ‘you’ one more time.

He turned on the radio for convenience, tuned to a station at random, and it happened to be playing a song.

There was music in the car, and the boss stopped talking and just focused on driving. Luo Qi slowly relaxed. Once there was nothing to do, there was no need to restrain one’s self, and her thoughts easily wandered away along with the nostalgic song.

“Where do you live?” Jiang Shenghe asked.

No one responded to him.

Jiang Shenghe looked sideways at her: she was distracted, looking at the windshield in a daze.

Probably thinking of someone again.

The longer you stay immersed in sadness, the harder it would be to get over it. He turned the radio volume down so low that it was almost inaudible.

He took out his mobile phone, dialed Secretary Ju’s number, and casually explained a few words about tomorrow’s work arrangements.

The boss’s clear voice rang in her ears, and Luo Qi suddenly came back to her senses. It was easy to think about things when she was idle, so she took the mobile phone out to read emails.

When Jiang Shenghe saw that her thoughts had come back to the present, he hung up the call.

After listening to songs all the way, the last song of the program ended, and a commercial played on the radio.

Luo Qi looked out of the car window, wondering where Jiang Shenghe lived.

But Jiang Shenghe did not return to his residence. When he started the engine earlier, he suddenly decided to take her back to his family’s house to let her know what the place where he was born and raised was like.

A car pass was required to enter, and Luo Qi’s car was stopped at the gates.

Jiang Shenghe lowered the window and poked his head out. The person on duty saw who it was and let them go in.

Luo Qi kept staring out the window; This place was quieter than the villa area where Jiang Yueru lived, and there were almost no pedestrians walking outside within the community.

The car stopped in front of a particular villa, and Jiang Shenghe unbuckled his seat belt. It was impossible for her to go in. It was inappropriate. “Be careful and pay attention to safety.”

“Okay.” Luo Qi got out of the car and switched over to the driver’s seat.

When the boss got out of the car, even the air in the car seemed to be more free.

Jiang Shenghe didn’t wait for her to restart the engines, nor did he watch her leave. He stepped into the villa courtyard.

He always reminded himself that he was the boss, and he must have appropriate proportions and dignity. She had just broken up from a long, committed relationship, so he couldn’t do anything beyond the rules lest it backfire and make her realize something and cause her to avoid him from then on.

That was simply not worth the loss.

He had plenty of time. He had to give her time to slowly come out of the previous relationship.

When he got home, the auntie told him that his mother had already gone to bed, “But she should not be asleep yet, I’ll go upstairs and tell her you are here.”

“Don’t call her. Just tell my mother, I’ll come back for dinner tomorrow night.”

Jiang Shenghe didn’t stay at the main house any longer and drove his mother’s car back to his residence.

On the way, he received a call from Jiang Yueru.

Jiang Yueru usually went to bed late, and she couldn’t sleep tonight. In one day, the world seemed to have turned upside down. Who would have thought that Luo Qi would break up just before receiving the marriage certificate?

Even if she was happy with the circumstances, she kept pouring cold water on herself, trying to keep herself calm, because extreme happiness often led to sadness.

After doing much thinking, there were some things that she still had to talk to her nephew about.

“Even if you want to chase after her, you should first calm down. Luo Qi just broke up, so she must not be in the mood for a new romantic relationship. You may not have a chance right now. As for how long you will have to wait, it’s hard to say.”

Jiang Shenghe knew it well, and he happened to have a plan, “Aunt, I have something to discuss with you.”

Jiang Yueru was also thinking about how she could do her little bit for her nephew, so when he brought it up she immediately said, “You don’t need to discuss it, just say what you need from me.”

Jiang Shenghe said, “I plan to transfer Luo Qi to be my assistant.”

  1. Hmmm i don’t know if it’s a good plot. It’s actually not so ethical. If she doesn’t reciprocate, he is at the risk of doing sexual harassment. That’s not OK.

He could at least put her not in direct boss-subordinate position.

  2. Jiang Yueru is definitely his best wingman, lol. I really like that both of them are considerate of Luo Qi’s current emotional state, though, and know to take things slow at this time. Since Luo Qi’s impression of Jiang Shenghe is currently in the negatives, I think it’s a good idea to put her in a position where they can be in closer proximity of each other and get to talk to each more often, even if it’s in a business setting, because familiarity will breed fondness over time (or least in her case, it’ll allow to feel more comfortable around him).

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

  3. I am Team Jiang Shenghe all the way, but I do not love this idea. The power differential (which he seems perfectly aware of) will be so much bigger if he is her direct boss. Maybe Awesome Auntie will talk him down. Maybe I am overthinking a sweet and simple romance story.

I am also not a big fan of the boss-subordinate office genre and for the same reason—the inherent power imbalance. Although for this story, we all know who actually holds all the power in this relationship 😂😂😂

      1. He has been so careful about respecting her autonomy that I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Also, office romance is one of my guilty pleasure tropes. Boss-subordinate tends to be icky in real life, but so delicious in fiction.

It’s true, she does have all the power in the relationship. Hopefully, she uses her power only for good. And maybe a little face-slapping for Pei Shoxiao and Cui Peng (or whatever her name is). 😂😏 😇
