[WrongThenWrong] Chapter 12.2 — Day 3 (Handwritten Love Letter)

The front door was opened from the outside, and she didn’t notice it until there was a knock on the study door.

“Come in,” Cheng Liu said without thinking.

It was only when someone opened the door that she realized she was at home.

Cheng Liu’s eyes moved from the computer screen to the person at the door. “He Bai?”

He Bai’s suit was a little messy, and his handsome face was also slightly red—he’d  obviously been drinking a lot of wine. But he was still standing upright at the door, holding a blue folder in his hand.

Cheng Liu got up, walked around the desk, pulled a chair beside her, and pushed it towards him. “Sit down. Why did you suddenly come here?”

He Bai stepped in the room, stretching out his hand and pulling on the tie around his neck. He then put his hand on the back of the office chair, pulled it back a little farther away from Cheng Liu and sat down. He looked up at her and explained, “Sorry, I smell a bit heavy of alcohol right now.”

Cheng Liu had drunk wine at banquets before and didn’t mind this. She leaned against the edge of the desk, raised her chin and nodded at him, “What’s the matter?”

It was half past eleven in the evening and he should have gone straight home after the charity dinner.

“Didn’t you say before that it was possible to cooperate with the auto companies in city S? I happened to meet the bosses of those companies at the dinner party today, and I had a talk with them. However, President Ji left directly in the afternoon, so I don’t know much about Tianqi yet.” He Bai raised the blue folder in his hand, “This is a summary of the materials I compiled about the car companies.”

“Since you haven’t fully understood matters yet, there’s no need to make a conclusion now.” Cheng Liu frowned, “You don’t understand this truth?”

She could really always enter the working mindset at any time.

When He Bai heard Cheng Liu’s words, he was not surprised at all, and even felt that this was the real her.

“Maybe I drank too much.” He Bai raised his other hand and pressed his temple, explaining, “I’m afraid I’ll forget everything when I wake up tomorrow, so I was went ahead and wrote it down first.”

Cheng Liu stood up straight, went to the drinking water dispenser next to the desk, poured a cup of warm water, added a spoonful of honey to it, bent over and opened a drawer, took out hangover tablets from inside, and handed them all to the Chief Assistant. “I told you that there is no rush for the cooperation with an auto company in city S, and there is no need to rush to collect information.

“Go home and rest after drinking.” She took out the folder from his hand. “Leave this here with me first, and you can add on to it when you need to later.”

He Bai took a sip of the honey water, handed back the hangover tablets, and looked at the computer logo on the desk. “I’m fine, aren’t you also working so late?”

“I’m not working.” Cheng Liu put the folder on the desk, “I’m doing something else.”

He Bai chuckled a few times, not believing it in his heart—he knew Cheng Liu too well, and her hobby was work.

“Was the auction item already given to your boyfriend?” He Bai asked while holding the water glass. He didn’t see it in the living room just now.

“Already gave it,” Cheng Liu said casually. She was not in the habit of sharing her relationship experience with the Chief Assistant—after all, he was single.

If she wanted to ask for advice, she had to ask those middle-aged business partners who have already achieved positive results, such as Director Li.

They had a lot of common topics to talk about.

As for the Chief Assistant—a single dog would definitely not understand the troubles of people like them.

At this moment, the standing Young President Cheng was looking down on her sitting Chief Assistant, feeling the subtle pleasure of victory of a person in a relationship over a single dog.

On the other hand, after hearing Cheng Liu’s words, He Bai’s heart was completely relieved.

Spending so much money, and yet she still returned to work after giving her gift.

Cheng Liu stared at the honey water in He Bai’s hand, thinking how long it would take for the Chief Assistant to drink a glass of water, so she could go back to cataloguing the romantic stories she has collected.

Seeing her staring at the cup in his hand, He Bai suddenly recalled, a little nostalgic, “For so many years, you’ve had to drink wine with those partners for business opportunities, but fortunately you’ve made it this far now.”

Cheng Liu’s family background was average, but she has mastered technology. She was already delving in the tech business while still in college, and began to setting up Shenyin Technology Company in her junior year. At that time, she had to do it all by herself to attract business cooperation and investment, and being pressured to drink wine over meals was the most common thing.

In the beginning, He Bai wanted to use his family’s influence to help her, but every time, Cheng Liu was able to solve the problem herself as quickly as possible.

“It’s okay.” Cheng Liu wished she could finish the glass of honey water for the Chief Assistant herself. “I’m a good drinker,” she said absent-mindedly.

The business partners who dared to compete with Cheng Liu at drinking wine were all defeated opponents by now.

However, drinking too much was still uncomfortable, so Cheng Liu always had hangover tablets and honey everywhere she went, and it has become a habit by now.

He Bai sipped honey water with a smile in his eyes. “Yes, you drink the best. I remember going to dinner in the last semester of my senior year. That boss was obviously a famous wine drinker, but you drank him down and signed the contract that night.”

Cheng Liu finally couldn’t hold back, “Today, did you come to reminisce with me?”

“Just remembering us at that time.” He Bai smiled and looked up at Cheng Liu who was leaning against the desk. With nostalgia in his eyes, he suddenly called softly, “Senior sister.”

Cheng Liu felt that the hangover tablets might not effective on the Chief  Assistant, otherwise why were there so many things being said tonight?

She pinched the bridge of her nose in response.

“Do you know that back then in school, you were always someone I looked up to.” Holding the glass of honey water, He Bai said softly, almost a whisper, “In my eyes, you have always been shining.”

“I’m not a light bulb, what light do I emit?” Cheng Liu finally couldn’t help picking up her phone and asked him, “How did you get here just now?”

She changed the topic too quickly, and He Bai was disoriented for a while before saying, “I came by taxi.”

Cheng Liu nodded, lowered her head to fiddle with the phone. When done she told him, “I called a car for you, go back early and rest.”

He Bai: “…”
